I know Im very late but... argon mk3 have good amount of subbass for enjoy deep bass rumble music? and which have more subbass between modhouse T60 argon or Argon mk3 😅😊
I don't really like bass, or at least sub-bass, the pounding, thumping bass most kids like. Would the Fostex with just Shure pads be a better headphone for me? Dan Clarke for me is getting really ridiculous in that they're charging $4000 now for headphones that don't even sound better than their $700 headphones. But I'd consider Fostex or another Japanese or American planar headphone. There aren't many from these countries that are well priced and comfortable.
Hello Sine Craft Audio, thanks for the great review. Did you happen to try the Argons with the Jotunheim? I'm considering that combo and wondering how it sounds. Thanks again!
Yes, from memory I believe it's a good combo if you are looking for a full bodied and somewhat thick sound. The Argons tend a bit dark and the Jot is smoother and thicker than some amps.
Awesome, I will check that out. I would love for the mids to come forward more on the Argons, that is my only real complaint. Otherwise they are just incredible for the money! Thanks for the tip!
@@SineCraftAudio I care about what you think you'll have to let us know how the Cowhide Oval Pads sound in this comment or doing update video which will be waaaaaaaaay better
I really enjoyed your review. I got my Argons recently and love them. You are dead on about the volume versus power thing -- it's almost as if throwing more volume at the Argons on an insufficiently powerful source is the same as a shrill scream from a child getting louder, whereas in high gain on something like an Asgard, increasing the volume is like a tenor opera singer ramping up - sure, they both get louder as the volume increases, but the latter is fuller and more satisfying.
Perfect analogy! I'm new to HiRes wired cans, dac, and amps. My previous cans were bt sony and Sennheiser momentum 3, and tbh i thought i wasn't missing much by not being tethered to a dac amp. In hindsight mind blown with the night and day difference. Next level, moving from the g6 gaming dac amp to my Zen dac 789 amp the fostex ebony's and nighthawks which are fairly easy to drive sounded fuller loudness was not a real factor since the g6 was no slouch in that regard but the fullness was an eye opener. I'm eager to experience my Argons on that level.
great stuff, I've considered the Argons, but since I'm in the EU they are a bit harder to get here, so I ended up getting some nightowls, they are quite nice, but I'd love to compare them.
What amp/dac combo would you suggest to go with these? I want to get a pair when they are back in stock but i'm stuck on if I should go balanced or single ended. I currently own a pc38x and that's my first taste of good audio and it's a gaming headset. I really really want these just not sure on the right setup.
What's your budget? I have mine running through a Schiit Modi 3 + Asgard 3 and it's perfect for me. I also have a Loki in the chain for EQ but that's totally optional. I noticed recently that Schiit released the Magnius which is a compelling choice and would probably be nicely matched to Argons if you want to go the balanced route (Magnius + Modius).
@@fredsk1 After asking some questions about the Topping DX7 Pro on reddit i'd be willing to spend up to 600$ I do want to go balanced. I wonder what the differences are in sound compared to the Magnius + Modius stack you recommend I will mainly be using these for gaming / movies. Down the line I want to buy some Sundara's. So investing in a good DAC/AMP stack or DAC/AMP combo is a must.
@@itzmezelio5433 The Topping DX7 does look very nice and honestly it would probably have enough power to drive the Argons. Having the DAC and amp combined is convenient, and it also has a Bluetooth 5.0 if that tickles your pickle. For my money though, I'd still probably go the Schiit stack. The Schiit stack works out slightly cheaper and has a lot more power (5.0W RMS @ 32 Ohms for the Magnius versus 1.7W @ 32 Ohms for the Topping). I feel like with the Topping you're paying more for little features and doodads that you may or may not even care for. The Schiit seems more honest and straight-forward but that's just me and maybe I'm biased.
@@fredsk1 I will really have to look into that combo. It does look like it has more power. I may break and go for the convenience. I did just buy Kanto Tuks (Powered speakers) and i'm curious if I'd be able to hook them up to either of these setups. Here on Zeos video on the Topping DX7 he talks about the T60/T50/Argons being powered by the Topping. ua-cam.com/video/1DeBNSEwx6U/v-deo.html From 20:15 - 26:00 he makes some pretty solid use cases for it. I may actually be able to use those doodads if I'm able to connect my Tuks to it. Something I have to ask Kanto. Now I have to consider getting a unit not just for headphones but maybe for my speakers also.
I would recommend getting Ryan to set your Argons up balanced when you order them. That doesn't mean that you have to buy a balanced amp now but it will give you options down the road. The Argons love power, the more you feed them the better and more balanced they seem to sound. I would also keep an eye on the used market. I've seen several sets come up lately on Head-Fi. Most folks take very good care of their gear so you can save money and time buying used. Just be sure to read the scam warnings ;)

If you put the cowhide pads on I believe the mids are really strong and the bass is too or even more hard-hitting than the protein pads you have on

You nailed it. With the wrong amp you could easily write them off but properly powered they punch way above their class.

I ordered my argon's in mid may and I still do not have them. Future buyers may have to wait till march or april for modhouse to regain stock.
I think I got mine about 10 weeks after ordering but that was pre-COVID times. Good luck, hope the come soon!
What pads are on the Argons ? Cowhide or sheepskin ?
