What a delight to watch these amazing athletes. I actually started to tear up just admiring their grace and strength and the sheer beauty of their performance. What an inspiration and uplift, on an international level, at a moment when we all need it so badly. I'm not usually very focused on sports, but this was a truly beautiful thing to watch.
After all shoe tech and perfect weather conditions, he lowered record by 8seconds, I think Mutai may have been one of the greatest marathoners in history.
His 2011 season was one for the record books. Set the NYC record then and also the STILL standing course record in Boston. Man's tragically underrated.
I went out to see the runners. I started at the 18 mile mark, where one person was hanging with Tola. Then I speed-walked over to 5th avenue to somewhere around 22-23 miles, and at that point Tola was alone, and his former companion was nowhere to be seen.
Lol, I’m thinking about going to Paris to watch the olympic maraton, but I would probably have to run as fast as I can to see the athletes on two spots considering how fast they run. I’ve though about this and it’s quite funny
To be honest it is far easier for them, they have 200km/week in their leg etc. Race day is easier for them than for us. But the training though... Way way harder...
One of the fastest, not really, but kind of. Considering the competition that contests the course, it is fair to say that NYC is likely in the top 10-15 fastest races in the world, despite being quite difficult
@@benanastasoff8980 actually, New York is (kind of) far away from a place in the top 10-15 fastest courses. When you consider the combined course record (men&women) , New York has a time of 4:27:29. And as of right now, the 20th fastest course record (Xiamen Marathon) is a combined time of 4:26:11.
@@alexanderhansen6134 where’d those numbers come from? Is there a full list of all of the fastest courses in order broken down like that? The 10-15 was off the top of my head considering Berlin, London, Chicago, Valencia, Tokyo, and then assuming that there are at least another 5-10 more courses that aren’t as famous that are still very fast. So, not really a researched based comment on my part, but it sounds like you’ve done the research. But anyways, I was saying that NY has some of the best competition for the marathon each year and therefore yields fast times despite being a harder course.
Yep, New York has certainly some of the best competion, no doubt. Always great to watch! And there is a list de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Liste_von_Marathonl%C3%A4ufen Sorry, it's in German, but you can find the list under "Rangfolge der schnellsten Marathonveranstaltungen".
Love your content. Thank you for all you do. I’d love if you’d also put on screen / say the speed in min/km and not only miles/km for those outside of the US.
Great to see Tola do so well. I hope kosgei can get back to her old form. It would be great to see her in top form against Tigist Assefa, & Sifan Hassan.
I let all the ads run on this! You certainly deserve all the ad-rev for dropping this before most major news outlets could determine the title for their own videos! Kudos.
You certainly got the news out, and this was the first video I watched on the race. It just happened to be the first one I saw, but I've watched quite a lot of your videos.
Top American Men's finisher in 10th place Futsum Zienasellassie still holds the Indiana high school boys track and field 3200 meter record with an 8:51.15
Whats with the camera car near the finish and it’s taking the inside line to the finish line… seems like they were taking up unnecessary space and even seems like Gidey was bothered/hampered at heading to the line.
obiri is a great racer she could be the one to watch for paris. sure she is slower than hassan and assefa but they ran those times on fast courses (berlin)
Got to see the pros around the 18k mark, seeing Cam Levins fading from the pack then had me thinking something special was gonna happen. I’m sure people will give Tola the ol’ Evo Asterisk but that was an impressive performance. As was the final sprint for the women, unusual to see Gidey on the losing end of one of those

I'm trying to find out how many had cardiac arrests during this marathon vs the 2022 marathon but can't find ANY info on this topic. Can anyone help? I'm hoping the cardiac arrests are calming down.

A good run by Tola, Yimer totally blew in trying to keep up. And a ladies race that was basically a long 21 mile training run followed by a 5 miles race. What does it tell you about Mutai's course record though, given he wasn't running in supershoes! Disappointing pro fields though in general - only 14 women and 23 men actually finished.
In Russia , we have neural networks that translate English - language UA-cam videos to us right on the fly . Dubbed translation, male and female voices. Do you have something like that there? Watch the video from Russia?
Can someone enlighten me how are pros allowed pacers in some marathons. Does someone enter a race as a officially a pacer? I thought pacers were still still qualified runners who chose to just pace
Love this channel and have for years but i hate that you speak about the marathon as if its still upcoming. Confuses me in the beginning, i never know if it’s already gone on or not.
A few second faster than the old record… Just to remember : 12 years ago and without magic/super/carbon/high stack shoes. One more proof that these modern shoes are WAY overhyped!
Thank you for NOT giving the results or winners in the title of the video. This is such a spoiler for those of us who can not watch these events live. There is nothing worse than waking up and excited to watch a recorded event and getting a notification from a UA-camr - "So-in-so DOMINATES the Anytown Marathon!!!". It's fine to say, "Amazing results in the Anytown Marathon", but since mainstream sports media doesn't really give running the attention it deserves, often not showing the start of meets because some blow out soccer game in Nicaragua runs long so we miss the first events in a Diamond League meet, some of us have to rely on replays. A 2 hour marathon viewing is kind of spoiled if you already know who wins. I like getting push notifications about track/running videos, but I also want to watch spoiler free.
