You’ve blown my mind with this daikon substitute for scalloped potatoes! This recipe knocked everyone’s socks off at Thanksgiving and I could cry that I now have a crazy-good potato dish in my keto repertoire. It’s even better if you whisk half of your cheese into the cream sauce rather than just sprinkle all the cheese and then pour on the sauce-improves the smoothness of the final texture. Amazing topped with crumbled Whisps and Italian seasoning. Thank you!
I've used the regular little red radishes and baked them with butter and garlic. They lose all the pepperiness and taste basically like little balls of butter and garlic.
Siaking in heavily salted cold water about 20 minutes & rinsing WELL, before cooking, removes peppery taste. I do the same with rutabagas, turnips, etc. Great recipes 😋
I have used red radishes in place of potatoes in a beef stew and a pot roast. They looked like red potatoes but they tasted more like carrots with a similar texture. I'm going to try your recipes for the whole dinner and hope it comes close. Cauliflower rice does not taste like rice to me. I found a recipe that called for cooking it longer than usual, and then cooking until dry and fluffy. That made a big difference.
Butcher Box has relieved me of the stress of trying to evaluate grocery store meats to try and find quality products. Absolutely love it, thank you, Sarah and Emily. I'm also totes on board with LMNT. Excellent stuff. Since I trust you two to tell it like it is, oooookaaaaaayyy, I am going to try the radish thing, even though I detest radishes normally! Thank you for all the education and encouragement wrapped up in your silliness and charm!
Hi guys! I loved your radish potato au gratin. Because I’m not a cook and I’m lazy I used Bertolis Alfredo sauce, added some parm, baked like you did. It was so good!!! Thank you so much
Thanks! Twins, have a cup of coffee on me! Appreciate your efforts to try out and bring us food ideas with a side of humor!💕 Found an idea for rye chaffles that I’m going to try. I’ll let you know how it turns out. Missing ham on rye or hot pastrami and Swiss on rye!
Over the summer, I found something called, “Celeriac,” and I cooked it like fried potatoes.. WOW!!! That are incredibly scrumptious! Only downside… expensive and hard to find! I want to grow some! Love your videos! ☀️🌻☺️🍁
You ladies are SO cute, funny, vivacious and have such an infectious positive energy. I'm new to the whole Keto thing. Thank you for making and sharing all of these recipes in a fun and entertaining way. Liked and subscribed!
First things first, I LOVE your channel!!! Thank you for not only the wonderful “honest” review of the recipes you try, but also sharing your weight loss journey - your experiences arenso helpful and much appreciated!! As for this episode, because I miss potatoes soooo much, I tried the au gratin … WOW!! What a lovely surprise!!! It’s an elegant dish and one that I wouldn’t hesitate to serve to my non-Keto friends and family. Thank you so much!!!
I can't wait to try the Daikon "Potato Gratin". It looked delicious!! So far regular radishes have been my favorite potato substitute. Thank you ladies!
If you use pepper jack cheese, you’ll never go back to cheddar again for this recipe! So good! Its not really spicy, but it adds so much more flavor and masks the radish even more.
That whole dinner looked amazing! I will have to look for diakon - I have used the regular red radishes in similar ways and enjoyed them as hash browns and with a pot roast.
Ladies, the "potato gratin" is absolutely delicious. You would never know it was diakon, something I'd never heard of. I love it and this will be my scalloped potato's forever. You two are an awesome pair and your recipes are keepers. Thank you so very much and all the very best!! Down 55 pounds on Keto.
I love using radishes for a potato substitute. I never thought of using a daikon radish before. That's such a great idea and I am pleased to see it was a pretty perfect alternative. The broccoli also looks delicious, but I have to say it's the cheesy gooey one that I'd like to have from time to time. I might actually have to give it a try if I can find daikon or get it delivered. Seems like a fairly cheap alternative too which is an added bonus. 80+ thousand subs is so amazing. Now we just need to get y'all up to 100k for a plaque! I hope you both have a great holiday weekend.
I've also used radishes cooked radishes to get that potato feeling when I add them to my beef stew I can't tell the difference I heard that jicama does the same thing It tastes like a potato when eaten raw but I've never tried it maybe you can do a jicama next time and make it like a hash brown or a "potato" fries, also I know that pork rind is a good substitute for breadcrumbs with some seasoning s
Been using Daikon radish for a few years now and a delicious sub and learned that cooking as you say to overdone is the way to go.. learning as I go along yum.
Every time I watch y'all I learn something new. I have been looking for Dikon radishes for months in every grocery store in my town. No luck, who knew you could get them on Amazon! Thank you Em 😉 I love broccoli and cheesy potatoes, can't wait to eat.
Girls! I used your Dicon radish trick for potato substitute. I was making pork chops and wanted to try scalloped potato side dish. I was short of time and put the sliced onion and sliced radish in the same skillet with a lid. Removed the pork and added a bit of garlic and heavy cream in the same pan with the drippings! What a delicious hit! Thanks!! I will try the tater tots next! (husband is diabetic)
Those mandolin slicers are a life saver for tasks like those thin slices. I bought one for shredding cabbage to make sauerkraut, but it comes in handy for other things like perfect-for-hamburgers tomato slices and sliced radishes, etc.
I must try the Daikon radishes. I was never satisfied with most of the potato substitute dishes I have tried. But this...thank you ladies. The broccoli looks amazing as well.
Love the idea of au gratin. Definitely going to try, potatoes rice and bread and sweets are my weakness. Goal for the life is to get healthy and stay healthy. Ty for the ideas and the great recipes.
I made these today after initially watching your video yesterday. All I can say is “ Da Bomb”!!!! This recipe is soooo unbelievably delicious and would fool an Executive Chef into thinking this was potatoes ( versus really radishes ) …. You Gotta make this recipe! Twinzies Win!👯♀️
I've been making a Black Tie Kitchen recipe for gratin. That's what Dennis calls it. It's augratin to me. It uses turnips. I am excited to try your daikon recipe. Thanks for sharing.
always looking for ways to prepare daikon radish, new in my garden, but such a beneficial Vegetable fun, watching your video and learning how are you prepare?
Made this today, and was pleasantly surprised! Didn't expect it to be as 'neutral' in flavour as it was...pretty darn good, and will make it again! You guys rock ❤
Just watched your video the other day. Made the casserole today. Wonderful. Gave to a neighbor who went nuts over it. Also been making your chaffles for a few weeks. They’re great. Tried lupin one last night, it’s good too. I mad double recipe and doesn’t seem to make as many. I might have messed up on the ingredients because it was sticking to the top of griddle every time. I used same cheese as before. Thanks for all your helpful hints and recipes. I’m doing low carb with Keto. Lost 15 lbs. 50-lbs to go.
i live in japan and my coworker gave me a BIG daikon hehe so i used it in place of potatoe. perfect vegetable to soak up the flavors of the dish youre making
Daikon is great for stew. Shredded, with shredded carrot, it's a nice fresh side for sushi. It soaks up flavor in broth, and gets nice and soft. I use it mainly for Asian cuisine. Thanks for a western recipe use! I'm lucky to have two Asian Food Stores within driving distance, but I didn't know you could get fresh veggies from Amazon.
Made it. It was so rich and delicious! My non keto family loved it and couldn't tell it wasn't potato. I think it needed an egg to hold it all together. Mine oozed a bit and an egg would maybe give it the firmer texture of au gratin 🥔 🥔 Def going to put this into the rotation 👌🏽
I really would like to try this dish. Miss potatoes like scalloped. It looked very delicious ladies. Thank you for your no nonsense real life video's. Have a great 4th of July weekend too.
I am so excited to try this!!! I am also a saucy kinda gal. It always makes me sad when i have a meat without sauce. Would you guys be able to do a sauce episode? That would be fabulous!!! Saucy girls rule the world!
I am definitely going to seriously look into the butcher block. I’ve been meaning to for years, now it is time. I’ll definitely use the link that you ladies provided❗️
These potatoes were so delicious!!!!!!!!!!!! They looked and tasted just like real scalloped potatoes. Both hubby and I really enjoyed them. Can’t wait to make them for my son the next time he visit. I’m thinking of trying to make mashed potatoes with them and even an apple pie. Thanks for sharing this recipe with us.
My husband and I enjoy this Korean BBQ restaurant, and they have an incredible beef and daikon soup. My husband thought it was potato for ages until I told him it was an Asian radish. He was in shock! 😂
i do a version of this with{used potato before keto) 6 eggs beaten onion and tomato and cheese layer as you like me daikon onion tomato then cheese on top cook the same great tasting
I would never have thought of daikon as an alt potato! I'm curious to put this head to head with cauliflower in a mashed alt potato dish. Thanks ladies- your efforts appreciated as always!
Thank you So Much for finding an Au Gratin potato like dish. I have been missing Au Gratin for years. I hope I can find Daikon radishes cause I want to make this on the weekend! Again, Thank You!! 🤗
I haven't tried Daikon yet, but I have been using red radishes for spuds. They're great, but I think the Daikon will be easier to slice up for Au Gratin, because they're so much bigger. Great video, I'm definitely gonna try this one!
Love the idea of daikon as a potato sub. Now wondering whether they can be used in a Spanish Tortilla, which is a thick omelette made with onions and potatoes that traditionally are fried in a deep layer of olive oil (then drained).
Looks like another winning combo! I'm familiar with daikon (pronounced "die-cone" like ice cream 'cone') as we make Japanese food on a regular basis at my house. I get my daikon from the Korean market - Lotte. It's an international chain of multi-national grocery store. I've actually wondered about daikon to make French fries. Not sure they'd get crispy though... Pork rind panko to get some crunch? Might be worth a try... You guys are the best! So easy to watch. Keep doing what you do!
Great meal! I love love love potatoes augratin. I tried it with red radish but didn't boil them. It was disappointing. I'm anxiouse to try this whole meal. Thanks y'all.

Between July 1 - 4, new ButcherBox members will receive two, 10 oz ribeye steaks for free in every box for one year. bchrbox.co/KetoTwinsSteakBB
Instead of nut toppings why not use ground pork rind

I make this recipe all the time. I put sautéed onions and crispy bacon on the top of mine. Soooo good.
How in the world did y’all know I was SICK OF CAULIFLOWER!! Thank you thank you THANK YOU!!!
Everyone is sick of it on keto apparently 🤣🤣-Em
How could anyone NOT be sick of cauliflower?
I've used the regular little red radishes and baked them with butter and garlic. They lose all the pepperiness and taste basically like little balls of butter and garlic.

thank you, i cant find daikon here but do have rutabagas aka swede so will try that!
I used Jicama as fries once. Boiled and then roasted and they blew me away. Kohlrabi works too. My 2 favourite potato replacements.
I have used red radishes in place of potatoes in a beef stew and a pot roast. They looked like red potatoes but they tasted more like carrots with a similar texture. more Holly!! It was so good! Promise :) -Em
Hi guys! I loved your radish potato au gratin. Because I’m not a cook and I’m lazy I used Bertolis Alfredo sauce, added some parm, baked like you did. It was so good!!! Thank you so much
I have lost 40 pounds since October 2021. Amazing journey. Good luck with everyone trying to go on keto!

I am growing Daikon radish for the first time and wondered what recipes I could use them in, thx for the great ideas.

Little red radishes turn into nice little turnips when cooked in a stew.

That sounds like a great idea!
Both the veggie dishes look delicious I'm going to try both.

I just got done making your savory chaffles--they are delicious! I hadn't had a sandwich for nearly 9 months and really missed them! I will look forward to making the daikon radish au gratin! I'm on an anti-inflammatory diet which has some overlap with keto. Can't have potatoes or tomatoes. I'm thinking I might be able to substitute roasted red pepper for the tomato and get a similar result. Looks delicious!
They also have jarred peppers without the skin. Some people that are on an AIP-ish diet find that they cannot do peppers either because of the skin/seeds and this is a nice workaround.
So happy you like the chaffles! Roasted red pepper would be delish!
Your videos are getting better and better, congrats!!!!!!!
Thanks so much Daniel!
