- How To Slip Punches Like Mike Tyson in Boxing | Great Boxing Tips and Mike Tyson Techniques.
When should I sleep, when should I roll? What punch should I slip and what punch should I roll? In this video, I am going to answer these questions, as well as give you drills to get you some slip and roll techniques you can use at home. Mike Tyson uses this to practice his head movement and how to slip punches.

The slip is used when the punch is coming from across or straight at you. When you slip, you are taking your head off the centre line where the punch is coming straight to your head, and you are defending yourself. With the roll, you are defending a hook. If you think the punch now is coming from the side, you are gonna roll underneath it. You wouldn't want to try and slip a hook because there is a lot more damage onto you.
If you want to practice your slips and rolls at home, you'll need a slip bag. Mike Tyson used the slip bag for his practices. I am not a big fan of the slip bag, but I recognize its benefits. I am not a fan because it is too slow and there are no punches coming that slow when boxing. The benefit is when you are slipping, you get used to doing it correctly, and when you punch the bag, it goes straight back and forth. It allows you to change positions as you practice your slips and rolls.
Easy way to do it at home, you need is a hand wrap and a boxing glove. Tie the glove to the top and let it hang anywhere in the house. The best thing about this is that if it hits you, you won't get hurt. This will also be great for your kids, my kids love it.

Do a video on the Tyson: slip->lead hook to the body->lead upper cut
Foot work!!!
a video on how to build punch strength would be great. A punch that breaks through your opponents guard, not opens it, not a punch that prepares the next punch but a wrecking ball that breaks his guard and lands the strike right after.
Right off the hat i think of pumping more in the gym, punch harder on the bag, but im sure there is plenty of stuff im not aware of when training for strong punches. What do you think Tony?
Man thanks a lot for your videos, this stuff is gold!
something for roadwork... what's the best distance, pace etc.
Drills for kids would be useful
I use a 2l soda bottle filled with water. I have been using it as a punching bag since I was a kid. Didnt have access or money for a punching bag. It made my hands strong as i punch bare knuckle due to not having gloves. I also used it for slipping. This video made me feel like i really made the best of what i had at the time. Love from South Africa
Damn bro, keep it up
Good Ideal...
You could also use some old tyre.
Great idea man, I will do this
Most of my stuff here at home used to be homemade. I started handwraps by cutting a shirt, made a homemade punching bag by tying up a bag filled with small styrofoam balls (its used for lying down or chilling). Until we got actual handwraps and gloves, still the same punching bag and everything else is drills without equipment.
this has quickly become my favorite YT channel. No shilling or time wasting; just excellent advice and ideas from a man who more than clearly knows what he's talking about. You're a great teacher, thanks, Tony.
Thank you mate, means a lot
Agreed. This channel has blocked out a lot of negative influence and time wasters in my life and given me a goal to work toward.
Mike tyson actually leaned with his waist from side to side, ear to shoulder.
I saw a video of mike Tyson old trainer saying that
That’s why Tyson had a lot of back problems, the unnatural leaning from the waist took a toll on his body
Yeah his style took a lot of endurance to really perfect
@@Nielsslieker it was more of a side crunch I thought. According to Joey Hadley. It doesn't cause back problems I don't think. I just googled it and Mike Tyson was injured due to a spinal issue from a motorcycle accident not because the slis were unnatural. Not that it is unnatural for me either. I just have the side of my abs sore but no issue with my back maybe I'll feel it later on.
@@chaosxfear3824 Joey Hadley might not have trained exactly as Mike did, considering that Mile Tyson had a pretty unique style of peekaboo boxing
Love your videos! Love the training techniques and real world situations presented and the problem solving solutions. Please keep them coming!!
Love the comment about toilet paper. Hard to get these days!
That comment got an immediate like from me
Immediately looked for this comment
literally made me laugh out loud and I NEVER laugh.
Good when you have a hard hit though
@@corey8420 must be a total blast as a human.
Great breakdown. The speed Tyson had with this movement is what was so impressive, especially at heavyweight.
Another great video - my trainer has me use the slip bad but never rotated my body 90 degrees for the bag to simulate the hooks - simple but brilliant. I’m a big fan of tools to make the head movement muscle memory. Tony - your videos are fantastic. My favorite of all the training videos on UA-cam.
Thank bro , I learn a lot about boxing from you.
I watch your videos every day and practice them, thanks again.
Love Tony Jeffries tips! I subscribed and watch his video tips whenever I get a chance especially before I go to kickboxing training. The tips helped alot movement punching sliping combos blocking. Just great stuff! He's an awsome boxer and also enjoyed watching his fights. Very greatfull! for him taking the time to show these awsome techniques and tips. I appreciate it, thank you!
Great video Tony. Love the home made slip bag tip too.
So informative. You made it look easy to do and learn. Thank you so much. Based on your experience, could you please do a training video on how to strengthen punches, move quickly specially head movement, and show us some secret equipments that other youtube training videos dont show?
Hey Tony! Thanks for the video! What do you think of the double end bag? Is it really useful? What drills or how do you recommend we use it to benefit from it? Thank you!
Awesome video! I really enjoyed it - keep grinding and keep up the great work.
This is a great idea, many thanks tony ✊
Yet another brilliant instructional video from Tony. I know the slipping and ducking techniques and develop them through shadow sparring, but the hanging glove is a neat trick to simulate evading a technique.
Tony Jeffries great video just getting into the sport thanks for the great content
Great video Coach!! Thank you
Amazing channel man! I'm 32, started boxing jist two years ago..regulary sparring good boxers and they all tell me the same "you are doing very good, good endurance, strong punch, quick to, but you ARE WWAAAY TO OPEN when you punch" so that's what Im working on right now plus slipping and rolling..and you make perfect tutorials ! By far the best boxing channel out here!
You have a great channel! Thank you for all that you provide here!!!

Very underrated channel. Uncle you deserve more subscribers and views.
Thank You for this video.
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Same goes for me. I think he deserves a lot more subscriber
I love Tony's instructing.
I have one I made - I used an 'ockey' strap which is a cheap bungee type cord with two plastic hooks on the end that people typically use for strapping down load's on their cars etc. I bought a small bag of decorative pebbles from the $2 shop, hooked the mesh-like bag over the hook, the other hook to the ceiling and it swings back and forth.
Instead of buying expensive headgear, I wear a thick beanie which doubles as a slight protective layer for my head for this exercise or when light sparring.
I find loading it up with something that will sting a bit like rocks or pebbles automatically raises my awareness level. I don't mind getting whacked above the eyebrows which helps to remind me to keep my chin tucked in, etc.
Also, if the bag sways off the centre line it's great for prompting me to adjust my stance (pivoting) which I find is the hardest thing to do out of all boxing technique.
this is very help full
If though with this hard "accdent" I understand nearly everything he says and I'm not native speaker. Respect to this channel and sharing knowledge!
Hey mate, great video. Have you published a video re the overhand? Would love to know the pros and cons on the overhand and when is the best time to use it and when not to use. Love your work, cheers
I am so setting one up in my house! Thank you!
Great Idea
Great stuff Tony
Thanks Emma, do you also box?
Bro, I love your channel.
I am training for a charity boxing match in July- Tony, you have been a endless source of amazing tips! Let's hope I've got some bog roll left in the house!
How did it go?
Plz make a video on footwork in the ring ,footwork in hooks
Good tip👍
Great Idea! Thanks for all these tips. I took up some Taekwondo and Japanese Jui Jitsu. I learned how to brawl and kick my way into grappling by street fighting in old 80's 90's Brooklyn. Man did I get hit as I was coming in with no boxing techniques. If I had these tips back then I would of had a better looking face after some of the fights I won! Great stuff!
Tony is the best! Cheers from Canada
Great idea.i learn a lot from your videos .I used to workout at the Windy City boxing club here in Chicago .I loved it Thanks
Great to hear Paul, I'll visit Chicago this year. Check our website for more updates mate. www.boxnburnacademy.com/

I request you to please make a video on effective neck workouts which we can do to be better on slipping and head movement in boxing. i am an amateur boxer from Pakistan. I really want to know from you about some effective neck workouts. Waiting for your video on this.

I got a 9in aqua bag for this. Definitely increases the workout and sense of urgency when the bag weighs 15 pounds.
Appreciate you Champ!! 🤝🤝
Thanks ma man, means alot

Thank you. Could you give advice on how to read the opponent's body so you have an idea of what punch is coming next. Eyes, shoulders, hands etc
Thankyou.

You're the greatest Tony, that jab tutorial of yours is stellar!
Watching this in 2022 and I did not need the horrible flashbacks to the great Toilet Paper Shortage of 2020.
But seriously, a really great video! Been looking for a way tp practice slips & rolls.
Thanks, this will help me when I visit Grandma's next week.
She's quick with those jabs.
You've quickly become my favorite boxer through these videos
Buenísimo...
Ty
I'm try that glove slip bag thanks
Nice video,
When you show how to roll or slip, i tried to play it on 0,75x speed so i can see everything 😆
I don't personally mind getting hit by something that hurts, because you learn fast! You only get hurt a couple of times before you learn to dodge it properly. Great tips though - a wrap in a glove or a gel inner glove, from a screw on a door frame maybe...
Amazing content as usual. Thank you champ!
sir greetings form ph thanks for the great videos
great
got myself a ball from a backyard totem tennis game. works wonders.
Tony, I really enjoy your channel. My wife and I are watching your videos and I'm training her in the park, 3x per week. She's doing great. It might be a little unorthodox, but I would really appreciate it if you could make a video that teaches women how to defend against male street attackers. I'm teaching her slips, shuffles, rolls, getting inside, plus a bunch of Muay Thai strikes. I'm teaching her to never engage in a fight with a man if she can run away - but if she cannot, make sure she is the last woman he ever attacks.
If I was living in your country , I would like to be in your gym. thanks for content.
Thanks
Thanks Sam, means a lot to the channel 🙏🏻

Tony - Some of us want to buy one of your boxing tees or tank top BUT - we need a reason and "excuse" when asked as to "why are we wearing these". For those not near your area and can't do your program yet - direct us to 4 to 7 of your videos and then give the "authorized word from Tony Jeffries" that we have "completed your initiation training" (or whatever) and are authorized now to purchase and wear this now EARNED tee or tank top". Now you have a "committed follower, a product purchaser, and someone 5-times more likely to buy your program" (yes, Marketing is "my bag" but forget that because ... this will work!!!) --- Thanks for all your shares!!!
Hi Frank - I appreciate this ma man - this means a lot. If you got any questions just comment it in the videos and I will try to answer
Good thing about the slip bag is that its like the cheapest bag you can buy. $20 which is like 3-4 cheap lunches and you have a bag you can use for almost life (its not like a heavy bag where the straps wear out etc).
For the slowness, moving left and right (and vice-versa) while it is coming will make it more challenging (even left-right-left, if you could). Another trick is to move away a bit more than needed; it will require more speed and make it easier to use correctly in competitions.
