  • I hope you are all well and staying warm! I’m not sure how we got here but let's go! I have been following Ken Henson on facebook I think for about 5ish months and there pather to the Avenger 85. By the time I found them they were already in the early testing days. I wasn’t sure if it was real or not but the guys seemed real and had passion for this project. So I just kicked back and watched. Well, their hard work has arrived at Grendel’s Garage door step. We are just unboxing and prepping the engine. Stay toned because I have some questions for you vets at the end!! Ride save my friends!! Happy Holidays

    Looks like it has lots of potential. FYI the 4 holes in the cranks are alignment holes when they assemble the cranks in a fixture. But also help with balance. Next answers is the crank balanced ? No but kinda.😅 if your willing to dissambl the engine and weigh the rotating piston wp circlips bearing and small end of rod. Follow the steps on two stroke stuffing balancing cranks. Put it on a balancing rail or stand and remove the proper amount to achieve the % of desired balance factor then your crank will be balanced. But that being said great advice on allways flushing and cleaning engines before assembling. sqish gap dictates the base gasket / head gasket thicknesses when assembling. Make sure intake and exhaust port faces are flat as well. Also would take my time and put a evenly chamfer on all ports . Lube it all up and let it ripp. At that point you did all you can do to prevent careless common engine failures . Great video.

      Great comment... I will add that you can't completely Ballance a single cylinder but you can get it better than what china does..
      How I look at it is 80% is going to vibrate 1/2 as much as 40 and again less at 10k RPM... That's 1/2 the beating on everything so if double the power it should last about like a out of the box one...

      Thinking about an 8mm adapter plate to use a KTM sx 65 flange and pipe mounted in rubber so it isn't solid to the motor like on the bike and I'm working on a KX65 reed and Dio adapter combo with boysen reeds window the piston but a single window the with of the port So the charge hits the connecting rod... True and Ballance the crank FAG bearings FKM seals PGN has the big end bearing
      Tack weld the crank pin on 3 places each end so it stays true... Bunch of other stuff I'm just buying the castings all the roller parts and clutch gets something

    The Phantoms intake angles down to the crankcase. The problem is that they're not finned properly for cooling. That's the same bottom end as the Phantom.

    I dunno if a reed valve, window piston & 3rd intake tranfer/boost port is a good idea or not on these?
    ...I'd rather go piston port unless the carburetor is spitting lot's of gas out.....I think the curved intaked is maybe supposed to reduce carb spit back? ....I had to to use a straight shorty intake for clearance issues & it had lots of spitting. It made a mess & got poor mpgs. So I went to a reed/window piston = better mpgs no more spitting. I only got more power when I added in a 3rd intake transfer & boost port.
    I bet this engine will rip pretty good with just the ports cleaned up & rounded/beveled edges. Better carb & welded up expansion pipe.
    I can't decide between 100cc 4 stroke kit with engine hp mods or the Avenger 🤪 With a stronger gemini rear hub & avenger 85 I could make a stealth motorcycle.
    I just hope they'll start making more high speed ebike tires.

    • @grendelsgarage9723
      @grendelsgarage9723  8 місяців тому

      It makes sense in my head that having the raised intake would help with spit back to the carb. Haha yes , it's a good time to be in the hobby 😄 so many choices!!!! ❤🎉. I'm happy I cleaned up the ports. I mostly tried to increase the chanfers on all the ports. I will say, I don't think you will be disappointed if you did get the Avenger 85. Ride safe!! 🎉🎉🎉

    Do you remember what rod was in it? I just received an avenger from California motorbikes and I only used one bass gasket if I want a thinner squish I’m going to have to sand the cylinder down. I wonder if there is a different crank or rod in mine

    Im wondering if a reed valve would eliminate the issue with the rings being too low/being able to see them thru the intake on bdc? As i have a 49mm iron sleeve that when you clean up the sleeve a tiny bit exposes both piston rings and im thinking a reed valve would seal off any pressure that would blow back into the carburetor but idk its just a theory. Im gonna try it
