This is an excellent post. I cannot wait to try and get this version of OS X 10.5.9 (Sorbet Leopard) installed on my 12-inch G4 Powerbook which, has a 1.5 GHz Power PC processor. Hope after this install, I will be able to use Arctic Fox which, is my go to browser when using OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard).
Good video. Its always interesting to see what anyone is doing with PPCs. I was wanting to see sorbet running and going through the install process was great. Thanks for that!
Hi everyone, thanks for watching - your support means a lot!! In the new year I plan to release videos on a regular basis and to a much higher standard! In the meantime, go check out my "digital life" iMac G5 setup! ua-cam.com/video/Y7A6IQQgpAw/v-deo.html
You could run an old JS benchmark and Geekbench 2 between the two to see if there's any speed increases that are beyond just the UI. Always been curious about Sorbet but I ditched G5 back in 2008, long before Sorbet existed.
Sorbet Leopard is just ridiculously good. It is now my daily driver on my eMac 1.25 Ghz and it is... Just too snappy, just too well done, just too customizable... I am in awe.
I tried this over 10 times on a Mac Mini PPC G4 restoring the Sorbet Leopard on an external drive. Upon bootup holding the option key the external drive never displays to boot from it.
Booting from external USB drives on powerpc macs is always a gamble, and they very rarely show up in the boot menu. Try this: www.macintoshrepository.org/articles/115-how-to-boot-ppc-powermacs-g3-g4-g5-from-a-usb-stick-or-drive-
Hi Quin, this is great. Thank you for posting. I have a Powerbook G4 2GB ram and would love to start using it again. I have no idea how to install an ssd on it. Do you know where to find a good and simple tutorial for that? Cheers.
Hi Juan, glad you liked it! Hmm, there should be a video online somewhere, but really you just need either an IDE ssd, or an IDE to Msata adapter, which is what i used (and then use an msata ssd with it). I plan to make a few more videos about this in the new year. Thanks for watching!!

@@QuinsTechCorner quin I have a question, I have an iMac with its original hard drive, and an ssd sitting to the side to put in it...but how do I get sorbet on the ssd. I made a clone of sorbet on my external hard drive but it does not see it as a boot device. So I thought I might disconnect the DVD, put the sdd in. And then make a clone if it will let me do that?

Installed Sorbet on my powermac G4 MDD Firewire 800. Using an external USB-disk or -stick doesn't work, only the Firewire 800 does it.
Yep, USB is probably the worst choice for powerpc booting… firewire is awesome though, glad you got it installed!
Definitely interested in a update once you’ve had some time with it
Yay thanks!! :)
I absolutely will do.

Hi!
Sorbet Leopard isn’t a standard install process, you’ve got to get creative with it… I suggest following a tutorial. :-)
My issue is that it's still slower than Tiger and doesn't have compatibility mode...
I'm interested to hear that it ran slower than Tiger for you!.. that's frustrating. What machine are you installing on?
