I lived in the Bootheel in Senath MO & started watching Memphis Wraslin' in 1969 on Ch 13 when I was 9 yrs old; plum through on Ch 5 when Corey Maclin's company on Ch 30 closed before 2010.

I've heard stories about Lawler's tendency to take liberties physically with people he could get away with that with. It wouldn't surprise me if he did do it on purpose. On the flip side, Lawler could be a real chicken shit though. He wouldn't get in the ring with Harley Race one time because he heard Race wasn't happy with the promos Lawler was cutting about him. Race literally had to promise he wouldn't do anything to Lawler before the big brave King would do the match.
Just look at what Lawler did to Andy Kaufman on Letterman. Now, part of that was a work, but it got out of hand and quickly turned into a shoot. Andy obviously wasn’t a wrestler and Lawler took advantage of that and whooped up on him.

I also played flagg football for metro parks. My first game, on first kickoff, I run into a white wall and then into the mud puddle, and was pissed off and fixed on revenge the whole game. . . And even flag football in DaVille can be dangerous.
Wish I could have seen Lawler without the broken kayfabe glasses. His stuff now doesn't seem all that revolutionary at all, kind of boring, cheesy. But, viewing it with the eye of the zeitgeist, I'm sure it's incredible. Same thing with classic rock. Sounds cheesy now, but then you listen to it from the perspective of the time that it came out, bam mind blowing.
Spot on other than the rock..im a metalhead mostly, loved rock of all genres up till far back as early 70s...i got with this black chick, shes into popcountry and r&b right...we would kinda spat bout what we are listening to on long rides.. She compromised one day after about 4 hours in the car n went "here you skinhead asshole" Now we kick it to classic rock till i go to my mancave n she goes to her she shed. Classic rock in the right environment is awesome..not cheesy at all. A lil manly a lil lovey n a lil funny ..dont diss rock my dude lol
