My friend turned me on to your videos 3 years ago after I bought an Electra Glide. I was about to sell it as I could not ride it. After a few weeks of practice I felt very comfortable. I still practice almost every time I get on the bike. Thanks for sharing your knowledge. You literally saved my life.
All good stuff right here. I found most people who ride, cannot. I practice a lot, and many times guys ride over to me and ask why I’m doing the exercises. Most been riding many years. I always refer them to you.
Before installing pipes, bars, and air cleaners the very best investment you can make is in the Ride Like A Pro CD's. Motorman is the very best !!
Jerry: I have an 850 lb. Gold Wing F6B and Victory Cross Roads. I've been practicing your techniques for over 6 years and had the good sense to buy your video. I regularly watch your UA-cam videos to ensure I keep your great guidance in my head. Thank you for making me a better and safer rider!
I’ve learned so much from Jerry! He is the best motorcycle instructor on UA-cam!
I avoided a very serious accident 10 years ago due to Jerry's training using Ride Like a Pro. A very small investment for huge results. Life-saving training and life-long skills thanks to Jerry Palladino. Thank you Jerry for your excellent training! Always think about you and your training every time I ride.
I had trouble with my U turns untili watched you teach and then practiced, practiced, practiced. Thank you!!
You Sir, are appreciated and just incredible. Thanks for all you do.
Awesome video as always! ✌🤙✌
Hey, look who is practicing 😊
Definitely the best instructor on the internet! I live in the UK so I can’t benefit from one of Jerry’s classes but I did buy the video a few years back and I’ve improved massively. Mind you I still feel reluctant to put it to full lock, but I’m slowly overcoming my fear in this regard.
I was recently in a National Park and the road ended… the road is a single lane style park road.
I had to do a full lock and turn. Honestly, it had been a minute since I attempted a full lock turn. I almost dumped the motor and i put my foot down and ran off the road a bit into sand.
I was not happy with that; when I rode motors as traffic motor officer, this was a simple task.
So, I did what I believe you would suggest, I stayed on that small park road and practiced it. It took me a few times, but it came back and I was able to knock out the full lock u-turn with ease and comfort.
Moral of this… I need to practice that more often. I do ride drills every few weeks on Sunday. So, I’ll incorporate this into my training drills.
Thanks for what you do sir!
I don't practice nearly as often as I should, BUT having these techniques in my brain helped me to once make a U-turn while riding 2-up on a sportster under a 2-lane train viaduct in the city of Chicago! So that's pretty cool...lol. Thanks Jerry!
Happy to help!
amazing jerry followed you for 5 yrs + now & been rider for over 50 yrs & Ive seen & Picked up So Much from you during that time in today s real world of riding in 2024 that i dint know & is just not the same the same as riding back 1965- 70 80 90 & 2000 my hey days Till today still ride 3/5 times a week 20 mile country rips So even Us Old timers need to advance & learn how to ride more safety & control & survive on the streets to enjoy another day of riding with all the Distracted drivers now day ...Thanks jerry
Great video example Jerry 👍 yes the little dip to the left or right prior to a tight u-turns makes it then so easy. Gotta learn dipping and looking where your going or you will fall over on the big bikes as I've seen happen on the road.
The learning never stops and I'm gonna find that out as soon as my Tumbdrive Experience & Mean Streets comes to my mailbox. Thanks Jerry!👍
This is a EXCELLENT opportunity to keep Safe. It's amazing job great instructor.. Best Techniques and tricks for us.
Thanks for the video Jerry, your information is pure gold and has changed how I ride.
Jerry, thank you for all the good you've done for new riders. Your video got me riding 15 years ago.
He made me a much better rider, practice once a week for just 15 minutes, you'll never lose it.
I'm a returner biker after 40 years, and decided to start with a nice RE Classic 350 to build my bike road skills back up. These vids show that in my twenties on my first bikes, I had virtually NO skills, and likely would have been dead by now, had I stayed riding. Thankyou for educating me (even though you're on the wrong side of the road from us in the UK 😉). I'm booking an Advanced Riders course, pronto.
Welcome back, join the local bike club.you’ll learn so much more too…👍🇬🇧
I got your RLAP bundle awhile back and it helped me out. Doesn't matter if I'm on a little dirt bike or a big, lumbering bagger. If you can find the controls, then you can use them the same way to move that bike around precisely.
Enjoy the knowledge shared...thank you!😊
As always great information. I did notice that during your figure 8 exercise that you would shift your body to the high side during your turns.
Another fine and important presentation.
Thanks so very much Jerry! Your videos are excellent tutorials for all riders! You have been my 1 goto online educator!
Hi Jerry, great explanations.every new riding season I head to the car park to practice. The X on the road is all one needs….be safe people 🇬🇧👍
Thank you Jerry! I love those roads up where you are. Very nice!
Great video, thank you much.
Great info motorman, its amazing how much it works to do these exercises with your motorbike
Awesome video! Thank you! Some refer to counter steering as "positive steering " here in the UK 🇬🇧.
I love your videos! Absolutely spot on! You are doing a major service for American motorcyclists! 👍🇺🇲
Hi Jerry, it's Peter from Germany,
i'm looking your Videos since a lot of years.I've done the same as you, brought my experience on motorcycles to a lot of police - officers on their BMW - Bikes.
Here in Germany these exercises are mandatory and fixed and a "MUST BE" in license - driving - scools for every riding - beginners:
Also they have to learn an emergency stop from high - speed and evasing - manoevers to both sides.
It's really not so like in Africa, where you must drive 20 Meters straight ahead without an accident and - ready!
IT'S REALLY OFTEN RIGHT TOLD: THE DIRECTION YOU LOOK; THE DIRECTION YOU RIDE !!!
Stay and ride save, best wishes,
Peter
Went riding with my buddy today, and after we finished I went to a parking lot to do 20 minutes of practice. Figured 8's, u-turns, panic stops, etc. I've come a long way since I started almost two years ago, thanks to Jerry and the other moto training UA-camrs out there. Practice practice practice!
Thank you! I have begun practicing u-turns in a parking lot using tips just like these. I am comfy in 3 parking spaces, trying to whittle it down. I drive a Victory Cross Country Tour.
Nice!
Trust me ya'll, if you'll do what he says, IT WILL WORK. How do I know?? Because it worked for me, and these tips from Jerry saved my life!! God bless ya Jerry and Donna
I'm so glad I took your class in 2021. It was the jump start to my police motorcycle skills riding.
Glad to help. As I remember, you were the best rider in the class by far.
Yep, it works... Practice, Practice!
I teach the Basic Riding Course and I recommend to all my students to watch your videos!
Awesome instruction and technique
These video's are so helpful. Thank you so much!
Jerry is the man great vid
GOAT!
Jerry, thank you. I really appreciate you and your video. They have really blessed my riding experience. Sean
I'm grateful for all the knowledge you share, especially for newbies like me
I’ve been practicing this on my dirtbike so that I will be ready to learn when I get my cruiser
7:15 “Looking at your escape path.” Had a lady pull out from a line of stopped cars at a light right in front of me. I was watching for this to happen, so I was far right in my lane and going slow. Hindsight, I probably could’ve avoided the collision if I hadn’t fixated on the right corner of her bumper. I hit her at 5mph or so. Dented my fender and torqued my wrist. Lesson learned.
It’s crazy on how many people ride motorcycles and don’t understand counter steering
Awesome we appreciate you!!!
Hi Jerry! All riding essentials in one video! Great! Best regards from Sweden 🇸🇪
Apart from breaking techniques of course! 😊
15 years ago.. your dvd taught me how to pass the SC motorcycle license test....
I rode "dirty" for awhile never having the confidence to pass the endorsement test. I finally took it keeping in mind techniques that you teach. Mainly friction zone and head and eyes. Thanks for getting me my license! Now that I'm legal I can actually get out and practice and have been riding every day instead of "sneaking" in a ride once in awhile!
Always a good educational video.
Thanks again!
Enjoy your video👍
Great tips for the upcoming season!
Thanks for watching!
Fantastic video Jerry! Love the different camera angles.
Glad you liked it!
Thanks to you and your ride like a pro video I was able to teach myself how to ride and passed my driving test easily. Professional and quality information you give. Thanks
This guy is the best! Thanks for helping us!!!
Happy to help!
Get the video and practice, practice, practice.
Eureka, drill the technique until they become muscle memory. I am making the 18' U-Turn in both directions. Still much work to accomplish....Great Videos.
Joe, My BMW is a dry clutch. Will see what my timing looks like in June as well when I fly back in from Japan...
It doesn't matter that your BMW has a dry clutch. What you should be doing is after every 5 minutes of practicing the low-speeds turns, stops, maneuvers, give your bike a breeze out. Which is simply riding around the parking lot staying off the clutch and rear brake and allowing them to cool down. Don't rev the crap out of your bike while practicing, that's a sure-fired way to burn out your clutch.
Excellent stuff, just remember to have a 50/50 split of slow speed training with road speed training, like Champ U.
3 acre figure 8 LOL
One of the best videos I’ve seen of yours is when it had rained and you ran the intersection course One Handed in the rain!!! I have taken on of your ride like a pro course (in VA), and I absolutely loved it!
Thanks 👍
Jerry, excellent video as usual. Didn’t you do a video 3-4 years ago about swapping out the original clutch lever for a different clutch lever. I can’t remember the name of the company. Thanks!
softbrake.com tell em I sent you.
I love seeing your instruction videos. I am wondering if you could also demonstrate this same maneuver on a road with a high crown or slope (uphill, downhill). Maybe the technique for such roads is a little different. Just a thought.
The road in this video has a high crown. But here's some more turns on a hill ua-cam.com/video/_f9GxW9985M/v-deo.html
Very helpful for me as I still lack the ability to execute a tight u-turn on a Suzuki m109r. I do notice for your figure 8, you shift your weight without comment. Just an observation. Cheers!
Hey Motorman!
good stuff
marcus
it literally works
Jerry, I love you content and ride like a pro videos. I noticed you have a book, any chance you could release it on audio book?
No. Everything in my book I have on video dvd or download, or usb At ridelikeapro.com.
Nice exercise I try to practice but probably not as much as I should…any practice tips for emergency stoping ?
Yes. Practice stopping quickly from varius speeds. ua-cam.com/video/W-zZ1PgSkBE/v-deo.html
Your videos are always very helpful and informative! Have you ever considered setting up cameras over your left and right hands to show the process in operation? Maybe even one at the rear brake? I know that's a lot, but I don't think I've seen a video yet that shows all aspects of these maneuvers with a camera at all 3 points while in motion. Just a suggestion. Thanks again for your helpful training.
ua-cam.com/video/UmfFyHmRrLw/v-deo.html I have over 1500 videos on this channel. Preety much, anything you can think of, I've already have a video on youtube.
👍
@Jerry Thanks for another great video! Could you please make a video where you place a camera zooming on your clutch hand during those low speed exercises? It would be great to see first hand (ha!) the amplitude and frequency of your adjustments as you comment on them!
Cheers
Here you go...I also have cameras showing hands, feet, etc., in my Ride Like a Pro Experience video that was professionally filmed. In many of my videos here, I do show the split screen, just have to watch through so you don't miss it, ua-cam.com/video/m0omPQjkcSY/v-deo.html&lc=Ugwds9lGqnmv9t3T9Ul4AaABAg.A2eB_QqO8kAA2fObBjfQtl
Fantastic! Thank you!
Thanks! For my clarification, I understand counter steering/push steering but was always curious at what speed it works coreectly......so at ten mph turn bars "counter clockwise" to turn left and at twenty push left to go left?
You are always counter/push steering on a 2 wheeled vehicle. But I like to break it down to handlebar steering at low speeds, 15mph or less, you are turning the handlebars in the direction you want to go. At high speeds you push forward on the left grip and the bike leans left and goes left and visa versa. As shown here ua-cam.com/video/QpqdNFltG4A/v-deo.html
@@motorman857 I have always done counter steering with all my bikes but never practiced slow speed stuff (kinda late to the party:). Got a different bike recently and want to practice slow speed maneuvers, thank you.
Hi Jerry do you have techniques for new trike riders who have left 2 wheel for 3 lol. Thank You…
Hi Jerry, Nice video. I spoke with a young man today who happens to work at a large local motorcycle shop. He's interested in becoming a good rider. He'll be checking out your channel and learning as much as he can before taking MSF classes in Massachusetts. Also, he may want to get your thoughts on the types of bikes he should look at as a first bike for training and practice. Thanks Jerry.
Mr. Jerry and differences in your technique if your bike has forward controls?Great video I’m going to order your DVD. You take care and stay safe.
No difference.
I have a hydraulic clutch and you gotta almost let it all the way out to get to the friction zone. Do you know of any levers that are made to help with that? Much appreciation.
Yes, softbrake.com problem solved.
I am learning so much from your video's, question. I have a Victory Vision and it has a linked braking system, how does this effect braking when trying to perform these lessons??
The bike you see me riding in the above video also has linked brakes. Here's more on the subject ua-cam.com/video/avat3C3-u1c/v-deo.html
Along with the friction zone, looking with your head and eyes, light pressure on rear brake and leaning the bike, I notice you shifting your weight (your butt) to the outside and tipping the bike in. I know this is something I do as well, and when I don't, that's when I feel most uncomfortable and unbalanced.
Surely all of these elements are important, but I would argue that shifting your weight to the outside so you can lean the bike in is the key for a lot of people including me. It takes away that feeling like the bike is going to fall over.
This is especially true for me starting from a stop and making a sharp right turn. If I get my butt to the outside, I can almost immediately begin tipping the bike as far in as I need to navigate the turn without ever getting that sensation I'm going to fall over.
I've discussed shifting your weight in many of my videos. However, head and eyes, friction zone and the proper use of the rear brake are the most important techniques. Without those basics, shifting your weight won't help. ua-cam.com/video/o8s9T3Rvkks/v-deo.html ua-cam.com/video/sxKsutCVhUQ/v-deo.html and here's another ua-cam.com/video/tw8MyXug3TY/v-deo.html
I like to try and avoid using the rear brake when I'm doing my figure 8's as for Moto Jitsu's advice, it forces you to practice your friction zone more.
As I've said a thousand times, once you master the friction zone, practice not using the rear brake. That will show you how little brake pressure you actually need on the rear brake and make you better at clutch and throttle.
What brand is that jacket you’re wearing? Im looking for one like that
It's from First Gear but it's no longer available.
Love yer Stuff Jerry!
That looks like Texas Hill Country ?
No, it's a street in my neighborhood here in Florida.
@@motorman857 😁
Yeah, you don't ride around cones because you can't. 😆 Jerry do i have your permission to use this the next time i have a hooligan tell me they don't ride around cones?
Of course.
It’s so hard to get in your mind not to look ahead to look around LOL I do drive truck OTR you’d think it would be simple it’s just a mind game
Me too,,,rode smaller bikes, sportster forever,600 CBR (loved it),,,drove big truck most of my life,,, am 56,,, sister bought me a Yamaha tour deluxe,,, absolutely terrifies me,,, can't get over the "I am falling down",,, but I am keeping it in the yard and doing start stops and circles,,, getting better and better,,, this keep turning your head as far back as you can and going there is helping tremendously
Have you ever reviewed a 2018-2021 Sport Glide? I'd to know your opinion on that model
Here ya go ua-cam.com/video/zeiwgFAGzNk/v-deo.html
@@motorman857 hey, thanks 👍
@@motorman857 say hellos to the peeps from upstate NY BTW, 😂😂
When you’re in the friction zone -how much throttle when making those u turns?
As I said in the video 1500rpm's or so.
Thank you. I don’t know how I missed that
Jerry, What speed are you at in the u-turn? Are you entering at 8-10 mph and maintaining that throughout the turn?
about 8mph. As long as your above 5 mph you're good.
I wish my Challenger would do 20'. 21' is the best I can do on it so far.
ua-cam.com/video/wiekf-STSk4/v-deo.html
When you have a brand new bike and you’re afraid to drop it, how do you deal with that? Being afraid to drop the bike makes it that much harder to do. I like the idea of learning to ride like this, but I would have to protect my bike somehow because I know I’m not going to learn without falling over. I’m 75 years I mostly rode motocrossbikes till recently I had a new Honda Gilding but I still want that Harley.
Go to motorcycledropguards.com no more fear with these drop guards.
Do you offer courses in Toronto Canada area?
Not at this time.
Thanks Jerry, should you move your bum over to the outside? It looks like you shift it back after the turn. Maybe that's why I feel like I'm tipping in as I haven't shifted my weight outwards?
Yes you can shift your weight to the high side. But the main thing is to master the clutch/throttle and head turns.
Ok thanks Jerry, I'll keep practising then 😅
Feel like im too small to ride such a big bike....5'6 180lbs. Thoughts?
Size and or strength means nothing. Technique is what matters as proven gere with tiny women on 900lb motorcycles. ua-cam.com/video/pp84g4Wlif4/v-deo.html
I find this harder to do on my 1800 goldwing than my old road glide ultra
That's because the throttle on the Wing is very sensitive due to the light flywheel. Try second gear on the Wing. That will allow you to slip the clutch more easily.
What seat is that?
ccriderseats.com
You been workin' out?
Yes, for 40 years.
I just can’t seem to get this :/
Then you need some practice.
"You don't ride around cones because you can't".
Jerry looked right into my soul.
I'm working on it Jerry.
Friction zone is rear brake pressure?
Friction zone is in your clutch. When you release the clutch and have power with your throttle, you've entered the "FRICTION ZONE" The rear brake stabilizes the motorcycle at slow speeds and turns when you are applying your clutch, throttle, rear brake and turning your head and eyes to where you want to go. Please get my Ride Like a Pro Experience video, www.ridelikeapro.com. The best 20 bucks you'll spend on learning the 3 techniques.
@@motorman857 thanks! Will do.
