I hate that my Sims constantly get the "dead end job stress" fear. Girl, you're level 10 in the career you want in your aspiration and all your skills relating to that career are maxed out. How is that a dead end job??? It makes no sense, if I follow their aspiration and traits why do they keep rolling this fear again and again?
I hear you, but any career can get stale - I’m in the career of my choice and experiencing burnout, so I kinda get it. And there’s a gameplay way to fix it, so it’s not a forever thing.
Had the same problem with fears over and over again and it was so annoying. Here is a quick solution without cheating, mods or spending points for a potion: To get rid of these fears go to options, opt out wishes and fears, save, opt in wishes and fears, save. The sim yet will have the moodlet a few hours but no more fears.
Same… my sim I’m using right now for a long generational game keeps getting tense from a dead end job… even tho she is literally just trying to fulfill her aspiration… it’s like what do you want?!
What this REALLY needs is the aspiration meter: it gives a benefit when you fulfill wants (platinum aspiration) but also consequences when you ignore wants for too long or fulfill fears (aspiration failure).
That would be such a great addition! I'm afraid there won't be enough consequence for realizing fears - just a crappy moodlet or something - and there will be no consequence for not fulfilling wants. I'm hopeful that this can be made into something meaningful over time - even with mods. But we all know it will never beat Sims 2's system!

Some additional info: a lot of the fears we’ve seen are very much high school related because everyone is playing the early access of high school years. I’m hoping fears will be much more in depth once we’ve played with sims for a while. Like do toddlers get fears? Etc. I have noticed that some of the wants actually take needs into consideration; so if your sim is tired, they will get a want to sleep. That’s really cool cos obviously whims never did that! I use whims all the time (and I’m a console player so no mods) and I’m super excited to explore this when the update comes out.
I really want a fear that ties in to the monster under the bed... where maybe they wont go to bed unless the monster is sprayed or if they never get over the fear that they've developed an ocd tendency to always sleep with a light on/ spray the bed
I imagine they'll release the update with a fairly lackluster set of wants and fears, many of which are HS related, just to introduce the mechanic but then they might gradually update with more and more, including ones for different packs. That's my hope anyway.

So these fears look like phobias. Not just "I meet this person and now I have a fear of us not getting along", but rather "I'm scared of not getting along with people in general"
No, the way it works is, every single sim you play, no matter who they are and what they're doing, gets 'looming anxiety' for no reason whatsoever. Then, you turn off this 'feature' and it turns itself back on the next time your start the game. That's how it works.
The wants and fears is so frustrating to use honestly. Instead of giving you a chance to choose what your sim does it forces you to play a certain way and punishes you when you don't do what it wants. It only gives two options that you can't change (it's updated to change every so often now) and I've only ever gotten the fear of being controlled one. You turn it off in the game options and it turns itself back on the moment you get back to game play. I think it's nice that they tried to do something like the other games but it was done so poorly I stopped playing for a while

I'm SO glad you're back. Your mod recommendations and playstyle have revolutionized how many people play the Sims. You have also rekindled many people's enthusiasm for the Sims 2 and 3.

I hope that you're doing okay Cindy. I'm sure that you never expected to get so many harsh comments on your last video. I truly believe that most of the people who commented were well-meaning but sad and frustrated because they really cared for you and had tried to support you. They were disappointed with your recent decisions, not because they don't like you but because they don't want to see you hurt once again. I hope that you continue with your therapy and that Andrew does the same. We can all learn from our past, nobody is perfect. We all make mistakes over and over again. All we can do is keep trying to better ourselves and learn from our mistakes. That's life. I wish you well and hope to see you posting again someday.

Same! I’ve always tried to be supportive of her I can deal with her taking long periods between posts but the wiping everything and not saying anything is frustrating for sure

i really wish they'd also bring back the aspiration meter from Sims 2, i love the little breakdowns they'd have, and getting a sim to platinum is so satisfying

I was watching Lilsimie's video on the highschool years pack and her Sim is afraid of large crowds. And when he was in one he got tense and wanted to leave! So hopefully it'll effect Sims more and more the longer they're near or dealing with their fear(s). A LOT could come from this new update as long as they do it right.

I'm so happy to see you're back!!! You make an excellent point: again no negative consequences, only positive ones. I love that sims can conquer their fears and overcome them. But if your sim can "live with that fear"...that seems like the fear will just stay there and that's it. No consequence. Also I'd love to see your thought about the new pack!
And to elaborate: I don't think we will ever get actual impactful consequences until we get some kind of "life statisfaction meter" like in TS2. In TS4 sims do not have any awareness of how fulfilled they are: they dont care if you fulfill their dreams or not, they dont care if you complete their aspiration or not, and they do not care if you complete 40 aspirations for them. It's all the same: they all die the same way (no happy send off or sad send off) and that's it.
This is so true! And this is my worry for this update. It's just going to be more meaningless random whims with the only consequence being a short-lived emotional buff. I really hope there's more to it than that, but from the comments I'm seeing, I'm already thinking it's shallower than it seems. We absolutely need some way for Sims to measure if they are fulfilled or not in their lives.
So happy to see you posting again Cindy! You seem very happy! The wants and fears do look interesting, but I’m pretty skeptical. They’ve made no mention of how or if they’ll integrate it to other packs. Sims 4 is very good at surface level stuff, and you have a great time for two hours before you realise that that’s all you’re getting
I completely agree Holly! This looks good on the surface, but I don't fully trust it until I've played it for a while. I have a feeling it won't be as in-depth as we hope. But maybe it can provide a foundation for mod creators to improve. We'll have to see when it comes out!

Btw I wonder which type of wants a Sim with traits like lactose intolerant, vegetarian, and clumsy with a Star Wars or Beach Life aspiration and no preferences would have. It would be nice if you could do a video about It. Also a Simguru said that they added some wants and fears for the previous packs.

I've had a problem recently with all my Sims basically having the same fear and constantly getting mad when they don't get to do pointless specific task like if I have a bro sim they'll constantly "want to get a drink " but specifically want it from a bar. That's cool but if I don't take them to the bar within a day they get mad and gain the fear of unfilled dreams and constantly get negative moodlets from really silly wants
I’m glad you posted this. I’ve seen a few reviews but no one has mentioned the wants and fears (and definitely not from the perspective of a wants based player. Always enjoy hearing your thoughts.
Hey Cindy!!! So much news has been coming about about the sims and life simulation games and I always think of you. I miss seeing your input here on UA-cam but I do understand you’re taking a break. I hope we will get to see your lovely face again. There’s a great expansion pack coming out called “growing together” that has your name written all over it. It’s simmers like you that got EA to get their act together. To be honest yours is the only let’s play I would want to see when this expansion pack comes out. I hope you and Mr Pleasant are doing well.
Honestly, I just feel bad for the person that bought the set of pens so you wouldn’t have to use the ones Andrew got. And the person that bought you the crown and book “The Audacity to be Queen” bc that really is a good read. If you read it you’d realize everyone in your reality only mirror back to you what’s inside. So if you have a low self concept other people will only mirror that back to you, you have to know within yourself that you’re loved, chosen, secure, etc. and only when you find these things within yourself can another person mirror it back to you. You can’t change ppl outside of yourself. Neville Goddard says “There’s no one to change but self” In other words you can’t change Andrew until you change yourself first. And im not talking about your clothes or makeup. Change the way you see yourself, being truly happy with yourself no matter the circumstance. It’s sounds cliche but it’s so true ‘self love comes first..’ I hate to say.. Until you do that inner work this cycle will continue. We tried. 🤷♀️🤷♀️🤷♀️💔
I don’t know why you feel bad for people who spent money on things that they were willing to buy to give it to another person, when it has literally nothing to do with you. I find it really weird how people feel like they know UA-cam personalities personally and that they have any sort of authority to speak on their private lives. You don’t know Cindy. You don’t know her journey, her thoughts, or her feelings. This whole comment felt like a lot of projection to be honest. Yes, you are correct. The only person that can change your situation is yourself. Having a supportive network of people gives you a better chance of being able to do that; compared to a network of people who just keep reminding you that you failed to begin with. I was actually really frustrated when I updated the game (years ago) and they hid the whims. So happy wants and fears are coming back, just bummed it took them like 8 years.
As an update for anyone who watched this video and hasn't played Sims 4 in a while: The wants and fears BOTH show up as "whims". Fears, similar to reactionary wants revolve around the Sims actions and life. The fear of "unfulfilled dreams" is gained from not completing or performing actions related to a Sims aspiration. The fear of "death" comes from a sim aging into an elder. (Idk why but I wanted you to know that.)
English is not my first language and it can be very hard to understand sometimes, but watching your videos I don't feel that at all! I love the way you talk, the way you explain...I catch myself watching your videos for hours!!!! Please come back!!!

I know it's unrelated, but I love how far your hair has grown ever since you made your video talking about pcos and giving up wearing the wigs. Now your hair seems even longer than the wigs you once wore. It's like a representative of your character growing as life progresses.

spitballing, but I’d love to see something like an optimist/pessimist system where optimists are more likely to take risks and pessimists are less likely to be disappointed by bad outcomes, and which one your sim is depends on how well you fulfil their wants and avoid their fears. it could be like character values but satisfaction-based. and it could accelerate over time like character values signifying that your sims perspective is solidifying due to their outlook, like an optimist is ‘looking on the bright side’ of bad events. your sims could maybe even autonomously choose when it comes to those situation dialog boxes instead of making the player do it. pessimists could find trying new skills more boring, be more embarrassed by social interactions, or more afraid of spooky events like thunderstorms. optimists could fall for scams more often, or try things outside of their skill level like dangerous ski slopes, or be more likely to make friendships with people they disagree with. so optimists are happier but live more dangerously, and pessimists tend towards introversion and are more emotional but are safer and more likely to reach top skill level in the few areas they are already comfortable in due to spending less time discovering new skills. you could also have reward traits like “life is meant for living” and “safe and sound” which negate some of the negative effects and boost the positive ones. anyway, just a thought.
So nice to see you on your channel, Cindy and can I just say you look amazing! You’re literally glowing! I think the Wants and Fears are definitely a step in the right direction but like you I am also concerned that there will be little to no consequence for realising a fear and it’ll likely be very easy to overcome the fear, and a lot harder to trigger the fear. Still, it’s definitely better than nothing and gives us at least something to give our sims a bit of life. I’m trying to keep an open mind. I really hope they add wants/fears for specific packs as well somewhere down the line but I doubt it. Either way, I’m looking forward to the update.

Also a wants/fears player - I'm on the fence, waiting for more reviews and real gameplay (by the Non-overly-hyped-by-everything UA-camrs or the ones loyal to TS2-3. When the hype is over that's when the real deal unveils itself, but it looks like at least they listened to us

Yes that would give a reason to play a wants based game. I never know what i should do in the sims 4, it gets so boring.

That's because they made the sims 2 as a GAME not as a Standing Around simulator XD Things had consequences when you failed

I hope that you're doing okay Cindy. I'm sure that you never expected to get so many harsh comments on your last video. I truly believe that most of the people who commented were well-meaning but sad and frustrated because they really cared for you and had tried to support you. They were disappointed with your recent decisions, not because they don't like you but because they don't want to see you hurt once again. I hope that you continue with your therapy and that Andrew does the same. We can all learn from our past, nobody is perfect. We all make mistakes over and over again. I was watching Lilsimie's video on the highschool years pack and her Sim is afraid of large crowds. And when he was in one he got tense and wanted to leave! So hopefully it'll effect Sims more and more the longer they're near or dealing with their fear(s). A LOT could come from this new update as long as they do it right.

I'm so happy to see you're back!!! You make an excellent point: again no negative consequences, only positive ones. I love that sims can conquer their fears and overcome them. But if your sim can "live with that fear"...that seems like the fear will just stay there and that's it. No consequence. Also I'd love to see your thought about the new pack!
And to elaborate: I don't think we will ever get actual impactful consequences until we get some kind of "life statisfaction meter" like in TS2. In TS4 sims do not have any awareness of how fulfilled they are: they dont care if you fulfill their dreams or not, they dont care if you complete their aspiration or not, and they do not care if you complete 40 aspirations for them. It's all the same: they all die the same way (no happy send off or sad send off) and that's it.
This is so true! And this is my worry for this update. It's just going to be more meaningless random whims with the only consequence being a short-lived emotional buff. I really hope there's more to it than that, but from the comments I'm seeing, I'm already thinking it's shallower than it seems. We absolutely need some way for Sims to measure if they are fulfilled or not in their lives.

The wants and fears do look interesting, but I’m pretty skeptical. They’ve made no mention of how or if they’ll integrate it to other packs. Sims 4 is very good at surface level stuff, and you have a great time for two hours before you realise that that’s all you’re getting
I completely agree Holly! This looks good on the surface, but I don't fully trust it until I've played it for a while. I have a feeling it won't be as in-depth as we hope. But maybe it can provide a foundation for mod creators to improve. We'll have to see when it comes out!

I've had a problem recently with all my Sims basically having the same fear and constantly getting mad when they don't get to do pointless specific task like if I have a bro sim they'll constantly "want to get a drink " but specifically want it from a bar.
That's cool but if I don't take them to the bar within a day they get mad and gain the fear of unfilled dreams and constantly get negative moodlets from really silly wants
I wonder if they had this in mind when they stopped adding whims and if the pack specific whims will be adapted to wants.

Hey Cindy!!! So much news has been coming about about the sims and life simulation games and I always think of you. I miss seeing your input here on UA-cam but I do understand you’re taking a break. I hope we will get to see your lovely face again. There’s a great expansion pack coming out called “growing together” that has your name written all over it. It’s simmers like you that got EA to get their act together. To be honest yours is the only let’s play I would want to see when this expansion pack comes out. Honestly, I just feel bad for the person that bought the set of pens so you wouldn’t have to use the ones Andrew got. And the person that bought you the crown and book “The Audacity to be Queen” bc that really is a good read. If you read it you’d realize everyone in your reality only mirror back to you what’s inside. So if you have a low self concept other people will only mirror that back to you, you have to know within yourself that you’re loved, chosen, secure, etc. and only when you find these things within yourself can another person mirror it back to you. You can’t change ppl outside of yourself. Neville Goddard says “There’s no one to change but self” In other words you can’t change Andrew until you change yourself first. And im not talking about your clothes or makeup. Change the way you see yourself, being truly happy with yourself no matter the circumstance. It’s sounds cliche but it’s so true ‘self love comes first..’ I hate to say.. Until you do that inner work this cycle will continue. We tried. 🤷♀️🤷♀️🤷♀️💔
I don’t know why you feel bad for people who spent money on things that they were willing to buy to give it to another person, when it has literally nothing to do with you. I find it really weird how people feel like they know UA-cam personalities personally and that they have any sort of authority to speak on their private lives.

The only person that can change your situation is yourself. Having a supportive network of people gives you a better chance of being able to do that; compared to a network of people who just keep reminding you that you failed to begin with. I was actually really frustrated when I updated the game (years ago) and they hid the whims. So happy wants and fears are coming back, just bummed it took them like 8 years.
As an update for anyone who watched this video and hasn't played Sims 4 in a while:
The wants and fears BOTH show up as "whims".
Fears, similar to reactionary wants revolve around the Sims actions and life.
The fear of "unfulfilled dreams" is gained from not completing or performing actions related to a Sims aspiration.
The fear of "death" comes from a sim aging into an elder. (Idk why but I wanted you to know that.)
Can't wait to have wants and fears back. I really hope it is a much needed improvement to gameplay and give depth to our sims

spitballing, but I’d love to see something like an optimist/pessimist system where optimists are more likely to take risks and pessimists are less likely to be disappointed by bad outcomes, and which one your sim is depends on how well you fulfil their wants and avoid their fears. it could be like character values but satisfaction-based. and it could accelerate over time like character values signifying that your sims perspective is solidifying due to their outlook, like an optimist is ‘looking on the bright side’ of bad events. your sims could maybe even autonomously choose when it comes to those situation dialog boxes instead of making the player do it. pessimists could find trying new skills more boring, be more embarrassed by social interactions, or more afraid of spooky events like thunderstorms. optimists could fall for scams more often, or try things outside of their skill level like dangerous ski slopes, or be more likely to make friendships with people they disagree with. so optimists are happier but live more dangerously, and pessimists tend towards introversion and are more emotional but are safer and more likely to reach top skill level in the few areas they are already comfortable in due to spending less time discovering new skills. you could also have reward traits like “life is meant for living” and “safe and sound” which negate some of the negative effects and boost the positive ones. anyway, just a thought.

I think the Wants and Fears are definitely a step in the right direction but like you I am also concerned that there will be little to no consequence for realising a fear and it’ll likely be very easy to overcome the fear, and a lot harder to trigger the fear. Still, it’s definitely better than nothing and gives us at least something to give our sims a bit of life. I’m trying to keep an open mind. I really hope they add wants/fears for specific packs as well somewhere down the line but I doubt it. Either way, I’m looking forward to the update.
I feel exactly the same! Keeping an open mind, staying hopeful, but not expecting it to be as deep as I would want. I hope mod creators can improve the system - so at least we will have a foundation to work from.
