They began to hate him after Peterson said he’d disobey a proposed Canadian law that’d force Canadians to call anyone who doesn’t want to be called “he or she” something else, like “ze” or “xe”.
When Peterson, said he’d refuse to obey, angry students shouted Peterson down, blowing air horns and screaming to make sure others can’t hear.
Peterson defends his position to John Stossel: “I don't care what people want to be called. That's fine, but that doesn't mean I should be compelled by law to call them that.”
It’s not just students who slam Peterson. In one TV interview, Peterson stayed calm while the host tried to put words in his mouth.
“You are saying that women aren’t intelligent enough to run these top companies ... You don’t believe in equal pay,” Cathy Newman, the reporter at Britain’s Channel 4 News, insisted.
“No, I’m not saying that at all,” Peterson responded. He hadn’t said that. What he had said, is that natural differences explain most of the gender wage gap.
As an example, Peterson cites studies that find, in wealthy countries that focus most on equality, like Sweden, even fewer women major in science and math. Instead they pick fields that deal with people, like teaching, and men tend more toward technical fields.
Peterson says this shows that when men and women have the most freedom to decide what they do, they pick fields that line up with their natural biological interests.
That idea infuriates leftists. “It should infuriate them,” Peterson tells Stossel. “Because I'm going right at the heart of the radical leftist doctrine.”
That doctrine is social justice, the idea that all groups should have equal outcomes; that there should be just as many female CEOs, scientists, and computer programmers, because men and women are essentially the same. If outcomes differ, it must be sexism.
Peterson says that the focus on group equality is a spinoff of Marxism. That after Marxism failed spectacularly in the economic realm, Marxists applied their way of thinking to issues like the difference between men and women.
“We've got a hundred million corpses stacked up to demonstrate” the failure of Marxism, says Peterson. And the new Marxism-derived focus on group equality won’t end any better.
Peterson calls for the opposite of Marxism - a focus on the individual.
He says people should stick with “the principles that govern the West; capitalist principles. The free market principles.” With those principles “we do better than any place has ever done.”

Admiral Rickover, who was also an engineer, and became the father of the nuclear navy, was once asked, in a television interview, if he engaged in protests when he was in college. It used to be that universities were a safe place to have civil debate with differing ideas. People were respectful and heard each other out. Now they are creating sheep who all look and act alike. I would never pay for my child to be indoctrinated in todays universities. When you send your kid to these universities they come home different people. My daughter completely changed after women’s studies courses and hanging out with socialists. Very sad. All the training you do raising them can go out the window. We pray they come to their senses as they age.
Peterson is an amazingly eloquent speaker and a brilliant and gutsy gift to humanity. Stossel is a tremendous gift as well.

@@santouchesantouche2873 Yes, but that isn't what Jordan Peterson opposes; it's the Canadian government's compelled speech regarding that ("You WILL refer to transgender people by their preferred pronouns, or else we will punish you") that he opposes, and rightfully so. That Canadian law is an example of the old saying, "In a dictatorship, everything that is not forbidden is prohibited." In other words, under such a state of affairs there is no freedom to choose to do or say anything, or to choose to *not* do or say anything--all activities and speech are rigidly controlled (either forbidden, or compelled) by the government. I'll take freedom over that every time, even though freedom doesn't guarantee happiness (socialism promises happiness but can never deliver it; freedom doesn't pretend to be able to provide that which cannot be provided [besides, what would make everyone happy varies a lot], but it gives us the liberty to pursue happiness, which most people can catch or make for themselves.

WOW, I have even more respect for Peterson now. To be able to stay calm in front of that many haters is remarkable. And like he said, It shows the rest of society where the hate really is. Your freedom doesn't begin with what the government says you can do. You are free to do whatever you want to do. Anyone forcing you to do anything is wrong and is infringing on your liberty. Anyone forcing you to work is a slaver.
Laws will of course govern what is wrong and they will infringe on your liberty but they should only be for when liberty is taken away from others who do not want it taken away. Violence for example: if you kill me then you've taken my liberty away and thus your liberty would rightly be taken away as your punishment.

Using that logic nobody was ever enslaved. All slaves could have just walked away. The slaves in America didn't have to work in those fields. They could have just walked away. Yeah they would have been severely beaten but hey they could have just walked away so apparently they weren't slaves.
That whole thought process is kooky. If you can't do what you want to do without facing unjust consequences then you are a slave. That is a clear infringement of your liberty. It is the removal of your freedom. It is slavery by the very definition of the word.

John, why are entitled students inside of a lecture hall NOT subject to the same sorts of 'Disturbing the Peace' citations I would face for playing music too loud at home through some sort of academic code enforcement? It makes no sense that a University would empower students to behave in ways deemed illegal outside the school's walls. Are there any colleges left in America willing to police this type of thing or are we all doomed?
Disturbing the peace is alright so long as it matches the college administration's political beliefs. If they had been off a different ideology (even if they conducted themselves more peacefully) the campus would have called authorities immediately.

Most likely that's already the case. But two workers with the same job title are not identical in performance. It's well known that top performers are often better than 10 of the lower performers in tech occupations.
Equal pay if: equal work AND, equal skills, equal experience, equal hours worked, equal training/education, equal willingness to work late/overtime/weekends, equal demonstrated success, equal leadership abilities, etc.
