It feels like it just makes the multi-tool worthless. I guess it can still do a couple of things but tractor beaming was it's most important role. Now I have to carry both, one for cutting and slavage/repairs and the other for tractor beaming.
The multi tool is compact and used for smaller operations. It’s supposed to make the multi tool less useful because right now it’s used for literally everything and you can hold it in one flipping hand
@@TheDestroyer702 There is no reason to use it for smaller operations though. You can always carry 2 primary guns. Even single seat fighters have space for 2 primary weapons. What situation would the multitool tractor beam ever be used now once the big one is added? I guess there isn't any harm that it's an option but still.
Yeah, I understand what are you saying...I would like to know will they restrict for multi-tool to be able to lift for example up to 8 or 16 SCU containers so that for bigger ones we will need to use MaxLift...will see. I personally don't have the problem carrying both devices. Bigger tractor beam will be stored in my ship so that I can take it when needed. Another thing that CIG will implement is cargo containers in which we will be able to store smaller containers so I am guessing will we be able to move these special containers with MaxLift only?
@@LORDV4DERONP1LLS I'm pretty sure the plan is for the multitool to have a lot lower limit. Like not even being able to lift the 32SCU boxes. I remember something about it being cracked up as a temporary measure. I'll have both just because I'm gonna have the multitool for cutting and salvage/repair... Until better versions of those tools are added anyway. Lol. I just think the tractor attachment is obsolete now. An option nobody will use. I guess it mostly seems weird to me that they felt they needed another level of handheld tractor beam. They could have accomplished the same thing with multitool attachment variants. Then again I'm talking about the people who made the ROC and ROC-DS.
I think their will be a lot of cases where you will choose the smaller one. If you use your multi tool for doing bunker running then there’s no need to sacrifice a weapon slot on your armour to take the new tractor beam gun. or doing smaller things like box missions why waste the weapon slot when it’s not needed. I think everyday use for most people will be the small one and then people who deal with cargo a lot will have the bigger one with them.
It won't replace the regular multitool, for that tool is very versatile, and this seems tractor specific. I would only bring this as a salvager or cargo runner. Pirates may have good uses for it too.
Today I tested the tractor beam of a 315 on a Cyclone that was turned off (wouldn't work shielded) and was able to lift it up in armistice zone and move it around. I put it on the roof of the storage building. I saw a different test where the MaxLift can pick up a Nova, barely, and move it very slowly around. I was surprised who easily you picked up the Aurora.
Yeah, so now you can use MaxLift in armistice zone? Nice! I was trying to move my Corsair while I was in space and it is a no can do! Can't have a lock at all which is not bad since I really don't want to be able to move a Reclaimer with it.
Nice video LORD V4DER, I think CIG said at some point they were going to have weight limits on the handheld tractor beams. The small handheld would be for small items and the larger rifle tractor beam would be able to move larger cargo boxes. Ships are to be only moved using a ship-class tractor beam.
Yeah, that makes sense. In latest EPTU build they added weight instead scu so when you pick up a container it was showing like 800kg instead 8scu...so I also believe they will add weight restrictions to tractor beam tools which is fine! Love to see what future brings! Thanks for your thoughts. Stay safe in the Verse!
Excellent testing runs mate, i loved seeing the test with the Terrapin, even more, i like that it still does have some effect on the ship, even though it is above the lifting range, it gives you that tactile feedback that the mass is just too much for your equipment, instead of simply doing absolutely nothing and giving an error text.
Thank you for your feedback. I agree on that "too heavy" effect that they did and I am glad that we can't just lift everything with it. In 3.21.1 you can now see the weight of cargo containers in kilograms!
@@LORDV4DERONP1LLS I like that you can also see the ship's landing gear suspension at work as well, the weight in kilograms is also very nice to complete the notion of how powerful these tools are.
For those that say the multi tool will go obsolete are kinda jumping the gun. It's like a smaller less powerful version of probably all the bigger tools with a specific job that will come in later. Most likely all the multi tool attachments will get their own large dedicated version later as the game progresses in development, for professions and jobs that require such tools. Imagine if you see a person running around with a pistol on the hip but equipped with 1 or 2 large utility primary you can tell they are non combat professions. For example. Haulers, Miners, Salvage contractors, etc..
Yeah I agree on that...I am sure that both tool will have their specific usage further in the game development. Looking forward to see what future bring. Thank you for your thoughts.
Believe me, this video was a pain to make with CTD's every 10-15 minutes! Luckily crash recovery finally works so I was able to continue where I was after every crash! EPTU is still really unstable for most of the time. I believe this tool will work fine in PU when it gets released.
The servers as of today's build are great. They've had lots of problems with CTDs. I was shocked how many personal frames I was getting in the latest build. Running very smooth, even with 105 people on.
@Rikalonius Repair bugs, 30k's, no reaction NPC's, ship weapons that won't charge up to fire, torpedoes that yoyo, characters not respawning, inventory bugs, loot crates unlootable. Many more. It's better than the disaster that was 3.20 but nobody is gonna take you seriously when you call the servers "great".
Seems like even you can't lift Terrapin or heavier ships you at least can slide them on surface. And it'll be interesting to see more tests with heavy ships and for example a few players with same maxlift tractor beams. will it be possible to lift heavier ships in this case?
For now when you use several tractor beams the power does not combine as I saw in one of the videos. In future this will maybe be possible but then again...for moving large ships we have tractor beam installed on our ships. I am afraid that people would abuse possibility to move large ships with hand tractor beams.
