Greetings from America. I’m 70 years old and have loved Spilt Enz since I bought TRUE COLORS way back in 1980. Just listened to it again today. It’s a classic album. This band deserves more recognition.

Greetings from New Zealand. I'm 35 years old. And it's crazy to me that you bought True Colors over 40 years ago when you were younger than I am now. Any advice from one Finn fan to another? I'm still trying to find my feet in this world. My childhood was difficult. Tim and Neil's music were a good part of it though.

This album was the only record me and my girl both owned in common when we met. I lost her in 2017 to cancer.
She was 17 when I met her and fell in love with her instantly.
Damn man, so sorry. Such a sad tale and I hope you're doing ok. Caligulas Horse cover turned me on to this song, I had never heard it before them.

Snap. My girlfriend also died of cancer 3 months after diagnosis. She was an opera singer from Canada but loved these guys. My deepest sympathies mate, we lost them far too soon.

Listened to it over and over, when my late first wife was very ill with cancer. Tried to learn from the lyrics, how to be the best man possible for her. Always reminds me of her. It’s beautiful, like her. She will never be forgotten and always be loved 🌸💜

I saw Split Enz at the Ottawa Civic Centre, almost forty years ago. Tim acknowledged publicly that his younger brother was a songwriter to be watch out for. Wow, was he right. This song is still beautiful, and the lyrics seem heartfelt.
Neil is to Tim what George Brett is to Ken. What Ken Dyrden is to Dave.
I think I saw them on the same tour, but in London, Ont. at Alumni Hall at UWO. I still remember the show - I think it was to promote the album, Time and Tide (Six Months in A Leak Boat)

Amen to that, @Bill Smith. Saw them many times in Oz and always great. Mad, but great. Still remember the strobes for the chorus of ‘I See Red’ made them look like they were leaping off stage into the audience.

The 100% best love song EVER! 💖 I remember meeting you Neil at the Party Boys after party at Delmonico’s in Auckland in 1986. I was only 15 and got to sit and chat music with you. I remember you saying then how kids of today didn’t appreciate music like The Beatles and I said “Me and my friends do!”. I learned to play saxophone because my dream was to play sax for Split Enz one day... I’m still playing! And still loving Split Enz as much as I did back then. Thanks for the music! 😍

yes. he really does. not to be the wet blanket on all the outpouring of love for Neil - yes, his Split Enz songs are wonderful - but I think you can see the growth and evolution of his songwriting, culminating in this LP and just taking off on the eponymous Crowded House LP and it still gets better after that.

Message to my girl may not be their bigger hit like their other songs, but for me, it is my all-time favorite SE's song. I don't normally comment on music video, but I loves its simplistic. And Neil have never sounded better than here.
Still gives me goosebumps the way it did in my late teens when it was first released. Split Enz were such a huge part of my day to day life throughout the early 80s, it's been quite lovely going back & listening again this year.

I miss this era of music. You know, I remember growing up in the 80's and I always heard that the music would be forgotten and how it wasn't that good, but to this day it is some of the best music ever. Just good songs in many genres that were influential... I know so many young people right now that love to listen to 80's music. I think it's largely timeless, and the technology had gotten to a point where it doesn't sound as dated as some of the 60's music sounded to us growing up in the 80's. ( I've grown to appreciate that music too)

I saw the Crowdies do a wonderful and spontaneous rendition of this, at Birmingham in England circa '92. I had to tell the people around me what the song was, as it wasn't well known there. Great stuff, I sang along to every word of a song that I never thought I'd hear live.
