  • The market is awash with drones of various sizes, cost and difficulties to fly. I don't pretend to be an expert on them, quite the opposite, I'm a total beginner. In this video we're taking a look at DJI's drone, the Mavic Air, and checking to see how it holds up for someone with limited experience flying drones.
    A great thank you to CyberPhoto for making this video a reality! If you're in Scandinavia and you're in need of photographic gear of one kind of another be sure to check them out. Their staff is extremely helpful and knowledgeable in their subject. I've shopped from them for a long time, and I fully endorse them!

    Not sure if it's a "beginner drone". You won't really learn to _fly_ a quad. But it allows a complete newbie to start practicing aerial videography with relative safety. As a learning tool a toy drone with acro mode is the best option. But it all depends on what you want to do with the drone.

    Those were some amazing action shots. Such speed! Such agility! The drone looks alright too.

    It's still very expensive, if someone wants to start flying a very decent drone for cheap, I highly recommend the MJX bugs b2c (you can find it on gearbest and the like) or any other of drone from them in their new lineup (b3 pro, b5w etc), you get stable flight, altitude hold, gps lock, auto take-off, landing, return to home(gps assisted) all working perfectly for CHEAP. If you wanna enter the hobby and see if you like it or not it can be a good starting point before you invest big cash into it, after that you can start looking into DIY racer drones which are really fun too ;) best of luck!

    Great video. Thanks for uploading. I'm still trying to decide between the air and the pro models. I hear mavic are about to launch the pro 2 model. Might just hold out a bit longer.

    Best to start with is sumthing with GPS, it allows you to be more incontroll of the drone.

    Just a note on jargon used: drone is a vehicle that has some autonomy, what you refer to as "hand-holding" and return to home. It has the ability to over-ride your commands to save itself. That is the drone part. The little helicopters you showed have no such features and are not drones. Aiding in the ability to fly is not a drone feature but a gyroscope. All heli rc models have this now. They don't fly back to your house when the battery is low. But if they do, they are drones.
    love your channel, thank you!

    Where and what are those concrete bunkers you filmed?

    Super cool. Thanks.
    Can you give us the name/the location of the quarry area you were exploring? I think that is what is was? What were those “dome” features? Something left over from “the war”?

      Indeed, they're old and defunct bunkers built and decommissioned long ago. Don't want to fly anywhere near active military installations!

    The Mavic Air is certainly a great little machine but personally I think people should learn how to fly a quad manually first so they actually understand how to fly - but something cheap because you WILL crash it...

    When grabbing it by hand, quickly flip it upside down to turn off the motors. This is much easier than trying to coordinate that landing with the controller.

      Yep, as I said in the video. That's how I hurt my finger.

    RC helicopters and quadcopter drones are two very different things.

    • @SwitchAndLever
      @SwitchAndLever  6 років тому

      Yep, but they still operate on similar principles, in terms of how you control them. I've flown plenty of small cheap as shit quads as well, and they're not especially better.

    Hmm not sure what to make of this new content, brilliantly made, humorous and informative but I'd rather see you build a drone.

    • @SwitchAndLever
      @SwitchAndLever  6 років тому

      I understand that, and all I can ask is to be patient, such content will come too, and content like this and other kind of content will also come. I'm in between workshops so the ability to create in the same pace as before is difficult, but I have a few old videos still not edited and uploaded.

    So i set a home point, and fly around until the drone decides to come back and land? Thats wicked cool. Were you impressed with the camera quality? I am.

    • @SwitchAndLever
      @SwitchAndLever  6 років тому +2

      You can basically, yes. It may be deceptive though, if you're flying in a lot of wind it may not have enough power to make it back. In which case it will land where it is when its battery reaches critically low.

    • @iwantitpaintedblack
      @iwantitpaintedblack 6 років тому

      you can always buy those, but i think the real reason to return would be that this thing has a GPS and a serial nr, if connected via DJI app it may transmit location, unless you can factory reset it and never use the app with it or sell it on the black market, you have to return

    • @SwitchAndLever

      Higher than what's legal in Sweden at least. I always make sure to fly within the legal limits, but considering how far I've had it out in line of sight I imagine it could go equally as far straight up, so maybe 500m or so? But that's a complete guess.

    but for real, tiny whoops are great for starting out with FPV

    • @SwitchAndLever

      That's in a different category though, the DJI Mavic Air is more for casual flying and cinematography, it's not a FPV drone at all.

    ha yeah 800 USD 'beginner' drone

    • @SwitchAndLever
      @SwitchAndLever  6 років тому

      Why can't it be a beginner drone just because it's $800? I agree it's on the high side, but why does something have to be cheap to be for beginners?

    • @IlovelouisDTV
      @IlovelouisDTV 6 років тому +1

      because it's on the high side. beginner to most people is synonymous with someone who just got into/just got introduced into the hobby and 800 USD would be a steep price for most beginners. i see it like an instrument, almost - yeah sure, there's nice guitars out there costing thousands of dollars, but it'd be strange to call a 800 USD guitar a beginner guitar especially if there are ~$40 guitars on the market (albeit not the same quality, obviously)

    • @SwitchAndLever
      @SwitchAndLever  6 років тому

      Yet if you buy a $800 car for your car hobby no one would bat an eye, it would even be cheap. It's all depending on what you put it in relation to.

    • @IlovelouisDTV
      @IlovelouisDTV 6 років тому +2

      absolutely, except there are way more cheaper drones even in the
