ancient India used to have lot of excellent architectures better than this one. during Islamic rule in India especially in Mughal period about 47000 temples and several other structures were destroyed. others were demolished by the European rulers. that's why India hardly has any ancient structures left in North India. however there are quite a lot of them in South India especially states of Karnataka and Tamilnadu.
It is always so sad when conflict destroys beautiful architecture, hopefully onday we can go check out some of it in the south :)
I think ellora caves is better than taj mahal to visit it is just too over hyped

best structures in India are all older than 800 years before the Islamic rule. in North India they are mostly destroyed but in South India there are plenty specially in Tamilnadu. North Indian architecture is nothing not even close to ancient South Indian temples.
