    I have been using the zelen for everything for almost one year now. (Hiking, city tours, working). In the beginning, my left feet didn't like and was clicking, but stopped after a while. These days I removed the insole, which makes better ground feeling, but it makes me much more tired after the working day.

    Lol! I just posted a comment in your Prio video about the Zelen, but I guess you’ve answered it here! I have it in Cork and I love the Zelen. I do short jogs right now (working up to longer stretches) and I use your other video on how to run barefoot as a guide. Still can’t quite get it, but I’m trying. This is my absolute favorite shoe of all time. Some have critiqued its breathability/ventilation for cooler weather, which is fair, but I sprayed the heck out of mine with a water/stain repellent and wear with thicker socks on colder days and so far no noticeable problem. On hotter days I wear thinner socks and voila, like a wind tunnel in my shoes.

    • @AndrewFolts
      @AndrewFolts  3 місяці тому +2

      Ha, yea, I had to repost with a few mistaken "Speed Force" references edited out. Kind of fried from daily videos to meet my goal of buying a van by this summer! But the Zelen is a great lightweight shoe and I've experienced the same thing with the Vivo Primus Lite-it works fine in winter as long as you wear a few layers of socks.

  • @JasonFarrell
    @JasonFarrell 3 місяці тому +2

    The Primus Lite KNIT looks nice, but Vivo says it's only suited for "Light Running" so I opted for another pair of classic Lite III's instead, assuming better durability. I wonder what "light" running means, though. Less than 40 miles per week, and only easy runs?

    • @AndrewFolts
      @AndrewFolts  3 місяці тому +2

      Light running? Idk, it's my main road running shoe, even for long milage, especially in winter when it's too cold for my Vibram's. I've used it for sprinting and tempo runs, as well. That said, the original Lite's certainly have more support for cross-training and HIIT type workouts and a bit more breathability for hot weather.

    Xero Aqua Cloud Sandals, Aqua x Sport, and Alpine Winter snow boots are my favorite options from Xero. I’m not into their “casual” looking shoes or boots tho. But all in all they have great variety of styles for barefoot shoe beginners.

    This is my goto shoe for casual walking & running (except for when it's raining). Very comfy, but the sides feel a bit stiffer compared to the HFS.
    I would love a comparison between this and the forza runner

    • @AndrewFolts
      @AndrewFolts  3 місяці тому +1

      Nice! Yea, not for rain, ha. The Zelen is more lightweight and flexible for running, while the Forza is more geared toward gym workouts and HIIT with side stability. Will do a compare if I get the Forza eventually.

    • @jordanschneider1077
      @jordanschneider1077 3 місяці тому +1

      The Forza Runner, while an enjoyable , minimal shoe to run in, is very difficult to get on your foot due to the tongueless bootie construction of the upper.

    Hey Andrew, have you tried the Ahinsa Chitra trail shoe? The newer one, with the sexy Vibram tread? It looks similar to what i have on Luna sandals, which is the best tread I’ve ever worn. This shoe looks like the perfect minimalist hiking shoe - at least for people who want grippy aggressive tread for wet rocks.

    • @AndrewFolts
      @AndrewFolts  3 місяці тому

      No, but it looks great! Glad to see they'r using a Vibram sole and 6mm is a versatile thickness for wet/dry. Extra-wide option is nice, too.

    • @RC-qf3mp

      @@AndrewFolts yes, looks like a floppier version of a Xero Mesa Trail 2 with the awesome Vibram tread of the Luna/Cairns. I ordered the extra wide. Fingers crossed. It’s pricy, but i love the Ahinsa boots you recommended. I got the lower cut boot for city rain wear. It’s very well built. Hand made. You pay for the quality but it’s worth it.

    Great Video.
    I tried the HFS II last year and the toe box was too narrow unfortunately. Otherwise it felt so nice everywhere else. Lightweight and flexible. I was hoping it would be my new running shoe, but coming from my Altra Escalante Racers, I couldn't do it.
    The Zelen seems like it has a wider toe box. Is that the case?
    Between the Zelen, HFS II, and Freet, how do they rank in terms of toe box width?

    • @AndrewFolts
      @AndrewFolts  3 місяці тому

      Yea, the Zelen is wider than the Prio, especially with the more stretchy mesh. Altra's toebox is amazing, tho. Just wished they made barefoot shoes! In terms of narrower to widest: HFS, Zelen, Freet.

    • @juukame
      @juukame 3 місяці тому

      Awesome thanks for the info.
      Yeah if Altra made a barefoot shoe that'd be great. The Escalante Racer is still a good shoe especially for transitioning- wide toe box, zero drop less cushion compared to virtually every other conventional running shoe.
      Funny story, when I got into running, I just used my old pair of Lems Boulder Boots until I wore a hole through them. Those were the most comfortable running footwear I've had, ironically :]

    How do you'll feel about the Freet Vibe? How wide 1:56 is the toe box on the Freet Vibe? Right now I'm sporting the Softstar Primal RunAmoc. But I need a wide toe box shoe that breathes really well because I live in Florida, so yea. Thoughts?

    • @Diego-sv5vx
      @Diego-sv5vx 3 місяці тому

      In Freet they have a measurement chart that shows the length and width of each size. But if you need very wide shoes I recommend Realfoot.

    • @AndrewFolts
      @AndrewFolts  3 місяці тому

      Softstar is extra-wide, while Freet is just a normal wide, although the Vibe's mesh upper is quite stretchy. Through most of the shoe they're quite similar, but in the top right corner especially, Softstar is significantly more roomy.

    Just curious…have you trained for and ran a long distance race with a pair of barefoot shoes? Is it practical to use them for time based goals like running personal bests or is that not realistic since there’s no cushioning to soften the impact when combined with speed?

    • @AndrewFolts
      @AndrewFolts  2 місяці тому +1

      I'm not a marathonner, but I have run about 14 miles in barefoot shoes with no problem. I had more stamina than in cushion shoes, actually. Impact depends entirely on your stride and how "smoothly" you land, which a thin barefoot shoe can certainly help with. I've also run 400's and even sprinted in barefoot shoes.
