The Luton airport fire video showed what appeared to be a Discovery sport on fire with two commercial fire extinguishers in the foreground, I assume they would have both been used. As trained fire fighter in the chemical industry I can assure you they would have made short work of a diesel car fire, particularly if used early in the fire. This fire had jets of flames coming from the left front side of the alleged diesel car; that is just coincidently where the battery module is on the hybrid version of that car is, I believe. I regularly do a kent to Newcastle trip, non stop, half a tank of diesel. No electric car can do the trip on a full charge or as cheaply or as quick as my clean diesel. With the insane initial cost of the car, the stupid amount of charging network service apps needed, the high cost and long waits for charging resulting in fewer miles than my car can do, massive depreciation and sky high insurance costs. So if I have to pay a few extra quid for car parking or clean air charges, I'm never going to loose as much money owning diesel than if I owned an electric car....
Maybe EV owner should have a different driving licence if they are so different to auto's n manuals. Seems they are not the same to drive so should be licence differently.
This is a very good idea. If, like me, you learnt to drive and passed your test in a proper car, with a mechanical interface, I don't think you are qualified to operate something like a Tesla, which has an electronic interface. The two are completely different, and both should require a separate license. After all, a driver's license doesn't allow you to fly a Cessna, so why would it allow you to operate one of Elon's deathtraps. It's madness.
After all these problems, councils are still buying electric buses? what? The councillors should pay themselves for the cost when they fail!!!! It's plain stupidity to go down that route with all we now know!
BYD (Burn Your Driveway) 32 seater electric buses weigh 10 metric tonnes more than a diesel equivalent, so not only are they having to haul around all that extra weight but the damage to the road surface and extra tyre wear must be a consideration surely? We are due to have 62 electric buses from April. Cost £15 million to redevelop a bus depot. First Bus received £12 million from Government plus more from Hampshire and Portsmouth councils.
Was at a Reading bus depot in 2004 and they had a fleet of new buses being prepped for passenger use. When I asked a mechanic he said they cost £180,000 each (double deckers). When I said that the bus company must be doing well he told me no, the Govt. pays for them.
The range ratings selling e-busses to councils are based on an empty bus running on level ground in dry 21° weather with controlled pre drive storage conditions... what could possibly go wrong?
I do enjoy these news tidbits. Typically, I wouldn't hear about some of these incidents in Canada. Sad what's come of Jaguar. Used to love these cars back in the day. Pre 2009. Series 3 is like art on wheels. Right up to the early 2000's they retained some of that elegant look. Oh well. 😕
Here in western canada, my city (edmonton) bought a whole fleet of electric buses, and they're all broken and the manufacturer is bankrupt... So that was a good $100 miilion wasted...
I commented last year on a vid by someone who had had his cable stolen more than once. I pulled him up on calling it not much of a problem as it was only £70 or so to replace the lead, saying it was quite a chunk of the shopping bill for the two of us at the time. I think he rethought his statement, as he acknowledged my post. An electric bus route is being built here in Dover that runs from the town up past the castle. Quite a climb on a bespoke road.
I am surprised that the media are not jumping on on the fact that someone parled an EV at an airport carpark and the carpark was still standing when they got back and the car hod only lost most of its charge.
Does it count as an EV fire if I start it myself due to the frustration of it breaking all the time? We got a new EV for solely financial reasons. Had it just under 8 weeks and it's back at the dealer for the FOURTH time. First time it failed to proceed and had to be taken, on the back of a diesel truck, the 175 miles home. I hated the idea of EVs before we got one. I hate it a lot more now. Even the AA seemingly don't know what to do with them.
It's not fit for purpose, time for a refund or take it to court. You have consumer rights. I'm not certain of the law but check it out sooner not later with trading standards. Do any communication in writing. Good luck.
Famous quote from National Lampoons 'if you think you hate it now just wait til you drive it'. I am really sorry you've had that experience, can you name the make?
I've looked up the law, the seller gets one chance to repair or replace the car after that you car get your money back or accept a discount ( I'd send it back and have the money) go to the ombudsman if the seller argues. Look it up on line, print it out, show it to most senior person in the company and send it to the registered office recorded delivery with a letter of complaint give them 14 days to reply or you complain to trading standards and the ombudsman. You only have 6 months from the sale so do it ASAP. Don't let them get away with riping you off. Good luck.
When I got back from my holiday my car had exactly the same amount of petrol in the tank as it did when I left, and the car wasn't burnt in the slightest.... just saying!
The 20 MPH speed limit in Wales has been running for sometime now. With its introduction the Welsh government said it would lead to a great reduction in accidents and deaths. Has the Welsh Government released any figures to support these claims?
Another issue to come with these electric cars is the external hacking of the cars. All these electric cars have communication with the manufacturers for system updates. As there is a communication channel to and from the car then it is susceptible to external meddling. We know manufacturers don't car about the vehicles security (Range Rover). A very dangerous situation.

Kettleman City is a wide spot in Highway 5 through the California Central Valley connecting Los Angeles to Sacramento. It's not exactly close to anything.

Most councils in london charge more to park diesel vehicles, and have done for years.
The range ratings selling e-busses to councils are based on an empty bus running on level ground in dry 21° weather with controlled pre drive storage conditions... what could possibly go wrong?
All I can say is ‘good man Geoff’.

Love the condensed format. So much better than dragging out each key point.

Good luck.

Another issue to come with these electric cars is the external hacking of the cars. All these electric cars have communication with the manufacturers for system updates. As there is a communication channel to and from the car then it is susceptible to external meddling. We know manufacturers don't car about the vehicles security (Range Rover).
