- There are many things to love on the McDonald’s menu, but many people think that their breakfast menu is the best of all. There are all kinds of things on it, from McMuffins to breakfast wraps, but a favorite that has been around since 1977 is the hotcakes.
You can't be satisfied with just an Egg McMuffin, hash browns, and coffee, because you need some fluffy and syrup-drenched hotcakes. You can even eat them on their own and call it breakfast, if that’s your jam. However, there is much more to this McDonald’s staple than you know. Here is the truth about McDonald’s hotcakes.

What's your favorite fast food breakfast item?
Pancakes💗😍
Hotcakes
A stalk of celery from my fridge!
Hotcakes
Um in America you can get the mcgriddle with mcchicken. Its $1.39 where i live.
When I worked at McDonald in 1987. They cooked pancakes.
For us, we roasted our pancakes.
1999 - we cooked them and the manager added vanilla to the batter
They also deep fried the apple pies
They still do, in fact I work there and deep fried 10 Apple pies todag
When I first ate at McD's, they washed and cut Whole Potatoes into Fries and received Burger in huge plastic containers, to make all Burgers, fresh! Burgers, Fries, Soda, Coffee, Hot Chocolate and Milk Shakes were the entire menu! A burger or fries was 12¢, a cheeseburger was 14¢, a Coke was 10¢, coffee 12¢, Hot Chocolate 15¢ and a (real) Milk Shake was 25¢! Things Change .... and RARELY For The BETTER !
You lost me at "stacked 3 or 4 high" I've been eating these for 35 years and have never received a stack of 4.... mind blown!
same
_They're not hot, but warm_
_o k_
In the 80s an old lady sued mcds when hot coffee spilt on her now they are warm coffee
Test Fortester: Oh yeah! I remember hearing a story that may or may not be about the same woman but it said that she was in the drive-thru and the coffee spilt all over her and gave her third-degree burns. Of course, she sued them for it.
Yup in a microwave
Mcdonalds Warmcakes
started working at mcdonalds in 1992 . we mixed our own batter for a few years until they went to the frozen.
Yep, they were made with fresh batter back in the 80s, and were dispensed in perfectly sized portions on the grill.
Georganne Nelson yay. that's the year I was born. how cute. 😁😚🤗
To be fair, frozen pancakes, are faster food.
Do you know the recipe?
Do you have the recipe?
Sorry, back in the day (about 1978) we hand-made the hotcakes. The frozen variety is a later invention.
Just make them at home or go to a real breakfast Joint.
Best advice yet
But the McDonald's breakfast is sooooo good.
What if you're a shit cook?
Go to IHOP jk
Or just eat McDonald’s.
Either way, i still love their pancakes. 😍😍😍😍
Me too!!
The best.
I eat them as kind of a desert once in a while with the sausage. They are better than some diner pancakes which are made in house probably with a cheap pancake mix.
I agree with you. A pancake with sausage, eaten as a folded sandwich is yummy!
@The Barefoot Kid yes I would lol. I know what’s in hotdogs and I still gobble that shit up. I’m here for a fun time, not a long time
They are microwaved lol 😂
They're probably Aunt Jemima frozen pancakes. When I made them at home I use to fry them in a pan with butter because I hated that frozen taste.
They come in frozen
Then they are thawed in fridge
Then we pop them in the microwave
It’s just like getting frozen pancakes
Christian X idc they’re amazing
They were so good in tge 80s bt now they not good because they Frozen
Haven’t ate McDonalds in years. Disgusting imo.
Even water has 50 calories in Mc
When I worked there in the 80s they were made using freshly prepared batter (the mix came in envelopes and you would add a measured amount of water then mix with a whisk). We used a dispenser to squirt batter onto the grill for each hotcake.
Back in the 80s, I used to get the McDonald's big breakfast with hotcakes, sausage, hash browns, scrambled eggs, and that McDonald's coffee. Not bad..👍❤
I prefer orange juice or soda to hot coffee.
I bet it was delicious back then
Now that will cost you almost 20 bucks. Wayyy too overpriced now
FINE! WHAT’S NEXT? ARE YOU GONNA TELL ME MY MOM’S HOMEMADE MEALS ARE DANGEROUS TO CONSUME?!?!
Chilllllll
@@lumine3939 i mean its pretty annoying that people are like " hurr durr dont eat this because its bad for you" so many times.
@@medley221 fair point..
Bruh exactly Randomly Ramune I just finished eating my Hotcakes from McDonalds this morning and I see this video...
I worked at McDonald's in the late 90's as a teenager and the hotcakes were made fresh with a batter mix and then grilled on a flattop and flipped. They were warmed in a microwave before serving to heat. I'm not sure if anything has changed but I don't recall frozen pancakes.
egger7576 yeah they come packaged frozen and then they are moved to the walk in fridge to de thaw. they take a couple trays worth of them to microwave. And then are left in the food warmers. That’s how we did it at the McDonald’s I worked at .just left about two months ago pretty sure it still is the same.
@@joshuaguevara1309 That sucks, they actually used to literally cook the pancakes. This doesn't surprise me though.
From a McDonald’s crew member: the McDonald’s hot cakes are frozen then stored until they are ordered so you could have week old hot cakes wich are then microwaved and served when ordered
Exactly why I go to local diners/Cracker Barrel for breakfast when I'm on vacation.
You mean like the frozen items at a grocery store?!
The truth - they're delicious, that is all
ok😂😂😂
I remember going to McDonald’s with my grandmother and we’d share the big meal of those were good times :)
Thank you for this! I had a dream about eating McDonald's pancakes with the sausages so i was kinda craving them! I think ill just make some myself to obsolve the craving!
What a waste of real butter...☆♡
The only real thing there
Ugh not this lady again
Blue Diamond ikr
she damn annoying asf
When I worked at McDonald’s, back in 96-98, we cooked the pancakes! We placed a hot plate on top of the apple pie oven and cooked them on there!!
Hunny, if they were still $1.95 you’d be catching me getting asked why I didn’t lose “thurty pounds this munt”
Can’t eat at McDonald’s anymore too high in calories sugar and carbs . 600 cals for 3 Hotcakes ?! I make 2 protein packed pancakes at home for 300 cals and actually feel full
Give me the recipe!
Nobody cares
Best tasting chemicals on the planet!
And that's no joke.
Facta
When I worked at McDonald's in thee late 70's, it was teenagers using the machine to measure out on the grill and flip those hotcakes, scramble those fresh eggs that were cracked open and whisked together. I remember I would make my own breakfast cause I liked my eggs a bit softer and I could never duplicate those eggs at home cause I didn't have a grill. Nothing was microwaved in the 70's
Love me some hotcakes and lots of syrup. The calories are crazy high but I'm still eating them 😂 just not everyday
Mashed....I don't know about all the Mc' D stores but the store I worked in during the 80's as a teen, we mix that pancake batter with water, we never got it pre- made and frozen.
I made some pancakes yesterday, I didn't have much butter so I used rapeseed oil in the batter and they were fluffier than I normally get them by using melted butter
NIce and interesting video my friend ..... ! ! ! Thanks a lot for these ideas .... and hello from FRANCE ! ! ! !
When I was in college, I could put jelly on sausage mcmuffin and eat it while doing do 50 mph on the expressway.
Whats the background music?
On the mcchicken griddle just order the items ala Carte and ask for it to be put together it'll save you money
Actually McDonald's did at sometime make their pancakes from batter base I know
Small towns made their Mc Donald’s hot cakes fresh on a griddle. However in Chicago and the surrounding areas they have been microwaved since I graduated high school in 1994
Looks good💯
Mickey D's is fast fresh and consistent! Love it!
Karen Chastain well, maybe just fast and consistently bad.
Are the fruit n' yogurt parfaits still available at Mc Donald's?
Most of the time, I just order Hot cakes for the nostalgia. 🤙
I had McDonald’s hot cakes yesterday
Love this:
Hey mashed, then how come, back in 1990, my 19 year old brother in law, who knew I loved these pancakes, while working at McDonald's, got me a bag of pancake mix with McDonald's name on the bag?
They used to make them fresh in the 90's with mix, eggs and water.
@@jasoncamp3535 interesting, they taste the same as the ones from the 90s, still better than some breakfast restaurants
Right I’ve been wondering something for a while. I work at McDonald’s and have asked everyone and even googled it a few times, but no one knows. What happened to the Crispy Chicken Club?
I just had some. I had a feeling they aren’t good for me. I put on a smidge of butter and syrup. That syrup is too sweet!
at the mcdonalds i go to they only give you 1 packet of syrup..then charge you 50 cents for extra one
😂
I already knew they're frozen I worked there
Good for u
Isn't everything there frozen?
@@drgjs not the tortillas used to make the breakfast burritos
In India you get Pancakes and a cappuccino for Rs99 which at current rate is $1.40 . The coffee is as good as any proper coffee shop and the pancakes are made from batter only after you place the order . The maple syrup is certainly not genuine maple syrup is probably come corn based sweet syrup . However this is the only minor complaint at the price point and their pancakes are actually quite good .
I take regular organic real flavor syrup, I’m so highly allergic to Corn Syrup and High fructose corn syrup!
Haha everyone here claims how bad they are yet I'm serving 100 orders every morning.
Right and there not that bad we don't make enough for our hard work
What do suppose they'd charge for genuine maple syrup? Who is fooled? Stay at home and make the real stuff yourself. Get a life, we're not 'informed' by your video.
If you look very closely to the image of the video you can see blue trying to get a bird
Watching this while consuming 5 of McDonald's pancakes!
Nommmm
Seing how they have whopping amounts of calories yet I can still see myself eating like 10-15 pancakes if I tried. But it's not like their pancakes are that big anyway.
Love how you go from saying it's bad then near end tell us to eat something even worse.
I was eating hot cakes while watching it and then the part where mention the calories made my heart drop
About this video and about the pancakes; "We are here to have a good time, not a long time." Now, shut up and let me enjoy my hotcakes!, lmao
I thought the thumbnail was a giant Venus right next to Earth.
Haven’t had McDonald’s in 8 years not even flies land on McDonald’s food that says a lot
12 years for me
Now I'm hungry.
Just eat that once in a while. Called discipline.
Pretty much, it's the problem when people start eating this every day
Delicious!
2:40 and 3:11 I totally didn't have nightmares after that
Wow, I just had a Big Breakfast with Hotcakes ($4.79) and a large OJ ($2.49) for breakfast today, near the end of a 3-mile walk around the block. Never thought to check the nutritional info on a BBwHC before. WOW! "Big Breakfast" indeed! Packs a punch, and not in a good way because of the artificial ingredients in it. I've been trying to eat well since my doctor told me to watch my diet, weight, blood glucose, and cholesterol levels more closely, so I mostly have done that. But I thought, a rare treat can't hurt. So I'll think twice next time before I indulge! Loved your video, though; I always enjoy seeing snippets of old ads and the prices that food items used to be at back in the day! :)
Same with “fresh bread “ on the grocery store shelves. Bread now has a freshness date for at least 2 weeks. Back until the 2010’s bread used to have a 7 day freshness guarantee. That’s all. EVERYTHING is loaded with preserves now
I still wish they'd sell the frozen ones in grocery stores. They are 100 times better than Eggo.
I worked at McD's in Toronto during the mid-1990s. They called them "Hot Cakes"...and they were microwaved.
When I worked there in 94 we made them from scratch
o k
Watching this while eating hotcakes
Can McDonald’s Hotcakes be made at home and yield the exact same results as the professional Hotcakes? Does the batter for McDonald’s Hotcakes include 7-up as an ingredient?
Im watching this while eating them
Just had some, now I'm here.
I still love them!
PANCAKES
PANCAKES
PANCAKES
THEYRE GODDAMN PANCAKES 🙃
They have chicken mcgriddles on my mcds menu I ordered one for my son 2 weeks ago- edited to add I'm in GA that might make a difference idk
Im diabetic now thanks to them being my daily breakfast. 😁
I want hash browns and pancakes now
Fresh enough to me tastin that good
This video is nothing more than a 4:45 min ad for McDonald's disguised as informative content.
I want the McDonald’s frozen pancake a thing. I WANT IT IN MY FREEZER
So glad I watch what I eat! I've maintained in the 120s range for over 2 years now
So, they have been around for me and my parents entire lives
1990-95 they used to make the pancakes fresh on the griddle. Never eat much anymore,,
WAY too many calories,,fat,,salt,,,etc.
I worked at mcdonalds for 2 years and mostly all the breakfast is heated on the microwave not the mc muffins or the scramble eggs
How is this any surprise? This channel calls out food that is dirt cheap and says it’s bad quality like it’s a spectacular secret.
Love this commercial
These pancakes give me a horrible crash later on in the day of fatigue, weakness, and trembles. Idk why
SouthCalifas619 it sky rocketed your blood sugar & that causes a major crash later from a very fast dip in blood sugar resulting in your symptoms. Yours sounds particularly bad almost like pre-diabetes but I’m unsure. Try to eat home made pancakes and maybe just one. No OJ. No hash brown. Eggs only and lots of drinking water. No sodas ever.
That should help.
Then eat for lunch veggies fresh fruits, fresh meats etc.
Also
All the preservatives in McDonald’s sometimes cause a person to feel unwell if you’re sensitive. It causes stomach upset and constipation or diarrhea. Fresh eggs and pancakes never do that.
@@wellnessconnect3368 thank you, yes i will do that from now on, and i was diagnosed prediabetic about 2 years ago, but i had no idea that that was due to that, thank you for the tips tho
SouthCalifas619 oh my. If you are pre-diabetic it would be wisest to not eat pancakes at all unfortunately. Or any breads, carbs, cookies, sweets, and even too much fruit etc.
That’s really hard to do do though.
My mom has diabetes and still cheats sometimes but she also is on meds and doesn’t cheat too much.
But anyway, maybe try using less syrup too if you cannot give up panckakes.
Or eat only one sweet thing a day if you are very addicted to sugar.
Then scale back from there maybe
Most of all see your doctors or get an appt for a nutritionist who can help you. Diabetes kills if left untreated.
Someone I know went into a coma. She was ok it seemed and just put up with the symptoms and was never hospitalized until suddenly she was hospitalized and very sick until she fell into a coma
@@wellnessconnect3368 that is concerning, well i dont know what else to eat, bread is everywhere, the only sweet thing i consume daily is a soda, thats all, im not really into sweets, when i was diagnosed my diet at work was way worse. For lunch id regularly eat chips, chocolate chip cookies and a soda, those days were when my symptoms were out of control, eating a keto diet is difficult for me especially because it can be quite expensive.
Mc Donald's hotcakes/pancakes is the ONLY thing that taste okay warming it back up after it gets cold. The burgers and fries gets hard and taste different once it gets cold. It's always better to eat it right when you order it.
Exactly. I warm them up all the time
Pancakes are one of the easier healthy treat’s and treat’s to make and cook up, depending on what you put into the batter. Plus it doesn’t take too long to make a traditional thin European pancake and the North American One. From the batter stage through too the cooking it into a pan.
Lastly. It doesn’t cost much to buy some good quality, spread, honey, squeezed lemon and maple syrup. Sure lemons don’t last long if left outside of a fridge. But if you use honey, it will last for a long time. However if it hardens at least that can be sorted out within 10-20 minutes.
This Video is a Lie, Hotcakes are Made Fresh Because I Had Worked there
When?
Soooo, what's the numbers for a hunk of chicken and pancakes dunked in HFCS?
Next video: the truth about McDonalds coffee creamer
I used to work at McDonald’s and they’re frozen and put in a microwave
Exactly
they already got chicken McGriddles
Damn I wonder how bad Burger King's cheap pancakes are
500 calories/3 pancakes w/syrup 19g fat and 77g carbs
Jack in the box as well
Go to Whataburger. Yes they make them there and it's fast food.
They didn't mention the amount of protein in the pancakes
6g per 100g of pancake... next time just google it
I’m sad 😢 because mcdonald’s pancakes are sold out in saudi arabia few years ago and i cried ever since
Breakfast? More like Dinner, I'd save it for the afternoon anyday.
he saw AS hes eating his mcdonalds big breakfast w/ hotcakes.... dammit man
I love these pancakes
My mom worked at McDonald’s way before I was born and apparently you could get a bunch of hamburgers for a small price
