Duffelbags/hiking bags are aesthetic kings but Large backpacks just have so much space man. I remember them talking about giving different bags different properties to give reason to not have the biggest bag all the time but jury's out on that one
if they added the run speed and combat speed modifiers to the backpacks I would absolutely love that I mean sure most the community would immediately mod that back out but it's just a bit of a shame it comes down to flat upgrades when it comes to backpacks
In debug mode you can do right click -> UIs -> Running UI to see all the speed variables and test speed, much easier to see the result of changing equipment this way. It even lists clothing modifiers despite them being all disabled except for going barefoot
The problem with wikis for early access games and games in development is they get outdated or outright invalidated quickly/often. It's crazy how many people act like they would reliably stake their lives on the accuracy of a wiki.
Great video man! Clears up some unlcear information but atleast my feeling about bags slowing me was correct. I went ahead and deleted "For bags equipped in the player's hand, the fuller the bag is, the greater the decrease in movement speed" from the wiki too. Thanks for the contribution!
I really do enjoy learning how one of my most played games actually works or "ticks" but honestly, my favorite times playing this game were the items I was cluelessly washing my character because I thought zombies could smell me, and shutting down all the curtains at night thinking they could "see" me (we know now it's an audio cue for lights with nighttime.). Don't even get me started on my first heli event. Ran towards it thinking it could help me LOL in the literal middle of an uncleared Rosewood. Didn't die but the adrenaline rush of thinking it was a good idea to leave my base and get help from the heli - and then slowly realizing I was being hunted by the whole town now and had to run; was awesome.
@@buttersofi they can; so definitely keep them closed at night dont get me wrong (day too). its when you flip a lightswitch thats a neat hidden game mechanic. they dont "see" the lightswitch going off/on, rather, every noise you can possibly make in PZ has a noise radious ( running, walking, sneaking, yelling, whispering ect) so does lightswitch flipping. lightswitch flipping has a rather large rafious actually to mimic z "seeing" the lights go on / off, whether the curtains are drawn or not. this may change soon anyway with the dynamic lighting update, but its an immersion mechanic hidden into the game

I wish backpacks had more variety. I use a mod that grants me access to belts or waistbags which typically hold my medical supplies and tools. I almost never use the main backpack because I'm married to the Dextrous trait, and transferring directly from the inventory is much faster than transferring out of a backpack first. I still carry one around though because it feels "complete" - knowing now that it doesn't even really affect my speed I guess I can keep doing it. I really want some kind of rigging backpack that can only hold large objects I.E furniture, and has a capacity of like 40kg, with a 50% weight reduction. Let me move that fridge or washing machine without hassle, without also letting me carry an entire supermarket in the same backpack. Hopefully one day backpacks and such get expanded on, anyway. Yeah I actually looked this over recently, honestly I wish the lesser bags (like the sachel) were actually somewhat useful by day 9 like...fr you are almost garunteed a school bag by that point unless you are just sitting in the woods so a satchel is just pointless...needs a buff imo
I like to keep my map and paper work in satchel. Also some writing tools. I don't have to worry much when I have to go through all my item list on one bag.

I'm curious if when equipping one or two fanny packs if your speed is decreased even more when also equipping a bag. For the duffel mystery, could it be your shoes? I noticed that you're wearing two different outfits and in the latter you have Rain Boots on which slows your speed slightly.
The movement speed modifiers on the shoes are turned off, but even so I went back and tested everything on the same character because I thought they might have changed that.

It's true that it's not enough. I wish heavy and hard clothes (like jeans and firefighter pants and jacket) also slowed you down to make lighter "builds" more profitable. I feel kinda bored of how easy it is to just wear a lot and carry a lot of weapons to kill half of Muldraugh, instead of thinking of ways to draw hordes away from POIs.
Yh fast shamblers can just b such a pushover in tht regard, only really dangerous when sneaking up on you or when you're really exhausted (and/or v. tired i guess) which all don't matter as much bcs you're not going to b slowed down as much and you're preparing urslef to make a killzone for the zeds. Stealth has been a more underdeveloped and an afterthought in this game unfortunately.
Afaik heavy clothes indeed slow you down. And certainly there's no way to carry/use enough weapons to kill nowhere near as half Muldraugh Z population in one run. Unless you wanna risk getting a nasty bite or playing russian roulette with the infection chance of laceration, it will always be better to look for POIs and taking time to dilligently clear zones, either by killing or pulling the idiots out. As regards looting the shops in the highway at Muldraugh, what I've been doing right now is: going to a relatively far place and fire a couple of shotgun shells and then get away sneaking while I can, or simply herding the zombies into the woods to again flee by sneak-running, which anyway will give me enough time to clear a couple of shops until the idiots are progressively again in the zone (as long as they come sporadically, I might try to take out as much as I can while they are alone or in groups of no more than 3 or 4).
I’m relatively new to the game and have never seen a sprinting zombie. Needless to say, I will never play with them now that I’ve seen them. That looks absolutely horrifying.
when you see 3 fast shambler (default speed) zombies in an open space, you can pretty confidently take them out if you're in good shape with a decent weapon. If you see 3 sprinters though you FUCKING PANIC
I saw a dev video a while back which shows the Sprinters with new unique sound effects It took an already scary style of play and made it even more terrifying.

I recently dropped fannypacks from my guy's loadout. I had used them to store meds and small tools to keep my backpack less cluttered, but the increased weight kept nagging me. I wonder if they effect you at all on speed.

@@Retanaru Yeah mine has broken the shoulder strap a few times, the weight isn't distributed properly. But backpacks kinda suck too, since you either just use one shoulder strap and drop it every time you bow down, or you use both and can't get the damn thing off afterwards.
thats cool to know, while fighting you get a massive slow debuff so stacking even more with bags is pretty bad. maybe droping your bag before it is the way to go

Also, I've managed to make a water bottle full of gasoline, but trying to add a fabric piece ripped from zombie clothes yields no results. Am I doing it wrong?
I keep a big hiking bag in my school bag. Helps manage what I always carry on me with my usual poor fitness, but there's always the option of impromptu hauling.

It's really really good. You still heal pretty quickly, and because of how the game incentivizes you not to get hit by zombies, you're usually not getting injured. Everyone should use it.

Since getting injured often ends in death, it's best to treat it like a zero-sum game and avoid injuries all together (at least zombie injuries, but non-zombie injuries are easy to avoid). So while new players might get the short end of Thin-Skinned, in general it's a great trait, and the points you get from it are more valuable than the drawback it gives.

I like this game but the way devs nerf “op” items starting to get annoying. Same thing has been happening with 7dtd too Large/Military backpack already is rare and is the heaviest. That’s the only balance it needs. You start to game with iron sword (schoolbag) eventually get steel (duffle) and you don’t need the iron sword anymore. That’s just progression. Stuff like boots slowing you down is cool becuase it’s realistic but how does wearing empty backpack (or holding it) slowing you down makes any sense? There are better way of making the game challenging instead of just nerfing items that doesn’t need it Unlike making the same mistake 7dtd devs did (and still do) and losing 2 years going back and forth with the players why not fix issues that actually matter like fire spread or add stuff that would make the game challenging in a way it make sense
They recently added more places for the military bags to spawn (much more accessible). The two checkpoints going from riverside to the unfinished side of the map can spawn military zombies

The wiki needs a lot more active attention and number-crunching. Hey, what about the speed penalties of clothes and the Well-Fitted perk (More Traits)? Is the perk worth it or, as I should think, too marginal of a difference?
Will you make a video on the mechanics behind the player (and his/her clothing) getting dirty? At least to know what makes the player dirtier, time? actions? weather? Because I'm just sitting in my house doing nothing but reading books while there's rain outside and my character clothes get dirty from nothing! Cheers

You should try mod that lets you wear a satchel along with backpack, makes satchel a handy bag for items you need find quick

Personally, I like to go with a satchel if I can. The lower space reminds me that I shouldn't be greedy, because that's always how I make mistakes.

I believe the diagonal / unstraight movement is due to your mouse cursor. You can replicate this with the combat stance as well.

Backpacks shouldnt provide the same weight reduction while holding them in your hands. It breaks the immersion imo.

Unlike making the same mistake 7dtd devs did (and still do) and losing 2 years going back and forth with the players why not fix issues that actually matter like fire spread or add stuff that would make the game challenging in a way it make sense
They recently added more places for the military bags to spawn (much more accessible). The two checkpoints going from riverside to the unfinished side of the map can spawn military zombies

The wiki needs a lot more active attention and number-crunching.
Hey, what about the speed penalties of clothes and the Well-Fitted perk (More Traits)? Is the perk worth it or, as I should think, too marginal of a difference?
Will you make a video on the mechanics behind the player (and his/her clothing) getting dirty? At least to know what makes the player dirtier, time? actions? weather?
Because I'm just sitting in my house doing nothing but reading books while there's rain outside and my character clothes get dirty from nothing!

As I said before, the bags do slow you down, but only if they're full of loot
