If I was older & still worked in the world, I could've become a Miss Jackie, but I kept to myself. Still, people told me EVERYthing because I'm non-threatening & yes, I did have snacks in my drawer, safety pins, hair pins, a mini-sewing kit & female items for the unexpected. People would ask to talk to me privately asking for advice & would get a hug, a tissue & a quick prayer of encouragement. I LOVES ME SOME MISS JACKIE. She also helps keep it calm in the workplace so nobody goes off & jumps a manager for talking crazy to employees. 🤣

I had to contact my former employer to see if my Miss Denise was still there. So happy she is. I miss her stories about getting up early on Saturdays to do her early errands and be home by 9 or 10am. Her candies were kept in her pocket book. Her Ritz cookies and other snacks. Her and my team constantly wiping our desks with our Clorox wipes way before this pandemic started (back in 2012). Her saying "i don't want nobody's germs on my stuff." Me offering Starbucks for a whole year she turned me down Everytime except one day she surprised me and she had her gold Starbucks card. Ms. Jackie- while delightfully comedic and a source of lighthearted entertainment- is truly a testament to the instinctively nurturing and maternal nature of Black women… specifically older black women. ❤️ I am a 30-year-old Black woman and there have been many Ms. Jackies who saw me, young Black girl in a White company, and immediately became my work Aunties. They me through my first jobs… and I plan to be a Ms. Jackie when I reached that age. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
