  • Hey everyone, here’re I go again trying to save even more weight out of my 97 civic sedan. If you’ve been following along I already gutted and cut the front and rear doors. Now it’s time to change up the glass for lexan on the doors.
    I bought the lexan from a local plastics supply store. And went to town on making what I needed. Hope this video was helpful for all of you and if you have any questions feel free to ask away in the comments!
    DISCLAMER:
    There are many ways to go about lexan windows. I am not a professional lexan window maker or installer. This videos is only to share how I went about making these pieces for my car. Please check your local laws in regards to change window material before doing this and driving it in the street!

    I love the music choice here because I drive listening to this stuff all the time and plan on using it. Plus I'm gonna be building a Lambo Replica at some point and you can't buy windows. Ill make my own just like you did.

    That is a really good idea. I started installing the lexan on the rear doors but used rivets. And since the car sits outside all the time I ended up getting some rain inside. I used silicone to seal it up a little better. I wish I thought of this to keep it clean. But I might do the front door like that so that way when it's hot out I can have air in the car lol keep up the work. Car looks awesome.

      Yeah man! Go for it! Thankfully I can keep my car in my garage but sometimes I tow in the rain and I try to keep this car as dry as possible lol

    Get some large fender washers and put felt on one side of each. I'll distribute the load better, and the felt will help with vibrations.

      @C_Plus_Racing  3 роки тому +3

      I had thought about that but didn’t have any fender washers. I’ll definitely be giving this a shot

    Great video is this 1/8 size Lexan sheet you are using?

    Nice video man. I got a question for you tho. To run events don’t you have to be able to roll the front windows down? Also, how do you think it would work if it was mounted on the regulator to be able to open? Thanks

    • @C_Plus_Racing
      @C_Plus_Racing  3 роки тому +1

      Yes you are 100% correct! Most organizations require you to have both front windows down. And thankfully with the bracket I made I’m able to remove bother front windows really easily. I made the front more for towing reasons. And it’ll definitely work on a window regulator. My buddy has a set he uses on his hatch that he has starched to the oem regulator and he’s got no issues with them.

    • @giorivers

      Logo on it says ( Makrolon sheets )

    • @C_Plus_Racing
      @C_Plus_Racing  3 роки тому +2

      My buddy’s uncle got the roll for me. He has the connection. But I’m sure if you google lexan sheet you should be able to come up with local spots where you can get a sheet.

    when you are tracking this car, do you feel a weight difference between the coupe, hatch and sedan, idk if you have driven a coupe or a hatch

    • @C_Plus_Racing
      @C_Plus_Racing  3 роки тому +1

      I’ve had this car for 10+ years. And haven’t really driven a hatch or coupe, so I wouldn’t be able to give you accurate answers. BUT I know the 96-00 civic coupe and sedan have the same wheel base. So I’d tend to think they would handle similarly.

    Cutting a rubber block as a spacer instead of bracket would be better maybe?

    What if the window was shattered and you don’t have a template how can you use Lexan instead of glass?

    Could you reinforce the lexan with a sandwich of several pieces of lexan and glue at the drill sites?

    👍Do you know the weight of your civic? Nice civic I'm going to build a oval track stock car with my 97 ek sedan. Our rules say we can't go less then 2100lbs.
