Man, thanks for the review! With the animation improving, people that think topspin is better will likely see beyond the animation, look at the actual ball physics, shot types and risk/reward that a real tennis match has.

TS in reality is better. Its the feel, the gameplay that counts. Tiebreak rosters graphics is useless if the feel and gameplay is not right.

Doesn't seem like topspin has the best physics. It may look more realistically, but the ball behavior is the same. Shot selection is everything in tennis, and TS does not reflect that

    • @jmax8095

@@lucasnicastro8731 why does it not reflect that and Tiebreak does?

In Topspin you can, for instance, respond to slice with whatever shot you want, right? In Tiebreak you cannot.
When your opponent plays well powered slice, you cannot return the ball with a strong flat shot - if you do, the ball will hit the net most of the time.
Responding to a slice with your own slice is also a bit risky business - the ball sometimes goes through, but the success depends on the ball height, your power and if you play through the high point of the net or low.

Everything you say is true,i get so much hate for liking AO2 and Tiebreak from Topspin players who say i know nothing about tennis when 2k25 rallies and all videos look the same slow ball speed and boring, so many shots fall short and seem to have to make a real effort to get the ball long consistantly. Of course Tiebreak animations are choppy at times and baseline movement is improving. Why are you not running in circles moving on the baseline compared to other early access players who look all over the place. I am hoping by console release the game will be much improved.

@@robryan4080 ive been doing the same you really have to keep holding both triggers down to get enough speed to hit the ball in a good position there are very few occasions you can release it. my feedback to the tiebreak team was to incorporate those "chase down" buttons into one shoulder button and smooth out/add more animation variety so it doesn't look or feel so clonky like you are running around in circles. even with this current issue its not a deal breaker and can be improved on.

I have 35 hours in Tieabrek and 120 hours in topspin. I have to say that Tiebreak is better tennis and anyone who says that it isn't either doesn't even have the game and read something somewhere or didn't take the time to learn it! I'm looking forward to the release and if topspin doesn't come as soon as possible with licensed tennis players, at least the first 50 in the ATP rankings, it will die because after so many hours it really has nothing to give me :)

I honestly don't think licensed players would even save Topspin for me. Last night, I played Topspin for the first time since I bought Tiebreak. I couldn't believe how lethargic the gameplay feels now in comparison (I liked Topspin before I tried Tiebreak lol)

Good video. Visually Topspin gameplay looks better but l stopped playing Topspin after the first week. Gonna trade it in this weekend. I played the hell out of AO tennis 2 even though it was far from perfect. Tiebreak looks a lot better after the last update. There will be two more updates before launch and they will most likely update it a few more times post launch. The amout of content this game provides is unreal. You look at the strokes and player models of Medvedev and Alcaraz in Tiebreak and it blows Topspin away in my opinion. Can't wait for this game.

Clearly the game is superior to topspin in every other way

Tiebreak is improving all the time, rallies are far more exciting and ball speed is closer to real tennis, they just have to get the movement and animations right which i think they will by console release. Devs have said linesmen, ball boys and court logos will be added in. I like AO TENNIS 2 no matter what Topspin fanatics say,i have played more of AO2 than TS4 and if Tiebreak ends up better than AO2 with the great roster i will be very happy. 2K25 rallies look so slow compared to real tennis matches, just compare on UA-cam.

@@robryan4080 That's true! My first two hours were frustrating too.
      1) before matches lower the difficulty (I found it after losing constantly)
      2) I discovered that you increase or decrease an option with X/A (X: increase / A: Decrease)
      3) movement can be adjusted with the death zone of the stick and also by improving stats
      4) hitting continue on Carrer mode didn't work, not a single time... but saving and then choosing "Load" will make it work
      5) mods break the game
      6) Change camera view
      7) spend a lot of time on the tutorial. That alone made me have hope for the game for me. Then I did points 1-6 and now I'm having a blast! The way they ship you the game is horrible because the CPU is too hard and the mechanics needs a bit of time (Ao tennis now feels too easy and automated, which I never thought before playing Tennis Elbow). Maybe if tiebreak disappoints, give it a shot if it's on sale! Navigational on menus is truly bad though, I agree. I think it's made by only 1 developer (?), but not sure about that. Anyway the gameplay flow is great once you get the hang of it

Personally, I would like to see real tennis umpires and their voices - icons such as Kader Nouni and Mohammed Lahyani. Not the recycled boring voice-overs from previous games.

Play wise is very subjective: I have more fun with Tiebreak than Topspin gameplay, despite limited game mode options and imperfections of AI in Tiebreak. I haven't played Virtua Tennis in ages so it's hard to compare it.

Provably the minority, but played tennis games way back when even in early Virtua Tennis back in the Dreamcast. Out of ALL the most recent tennis games, Topsin 2k25, even though it has horrible graphics still resembles actual tennis for me than any other tennis sim (and i play actual real life tennis). And hey, i enjoy tennis arcade games that play like Virtua Tennis with emphasis on Ping Pong mechanics if done right, but the developers of AO tennis and Tiebreak cannot seem to get player AND ball physics fun for me. Having a ton of licensed players means NOTHING if your fundamentals arent up to par and every player plays EXACTLY the same. I have high expectations for Tiebreak, but given how Big Ant has disappointed me in ALL their tennis games, they need to complete a career Grand Slam for me to pick this up.

My opinion changed as the situation with Tiebreak developed.
This review was made two patches ago, meaning Tiebreak had the potential to iron things out before the full release.
Now, the game is set to release in two weeks. The new patches have improved some aspects, but they have also uncovered many new problems. EA5 had much better shot balance, the CPU was not as easy, and serving was boring but not as abussive against computer.
Additionally, I have gained much more experience with Tiebreak and tennis games in general in the last two months.

  • @euphoreonz

TopSpin feels too scripted. Movement is heavy but feels automated a lot of the time. Crowd clapping before you even hit a winner is a great example of how scripted it is. Tiebreak will be better, but the serving is complete garbage right now... and there are still too many terrible shots like that lunge the AI plays when it gets to every ball. Movement and physics are still too funky at times. The game 'looks' more fluid and together when you use LB + RB on every shot, it removes this random running all over the court and gives a movement assist, plus it also chooses the best side for you to hit from.
Movement is too quick for certain players. Speed should vary a LOT like real life.
