It's so sad to hear about the death of Agrus Kos, I would love to hear more about how he got in the middle of Urza and Mishra's dispute for the Weakstone and the Powerstone and how Tocasia wasn't even there.
A couple things: 1. My friend made a Kibo deck and it is surprisingly scary to deal with. He'll be giving you life and mana, sure, but every time you do that he's buffing his whole team up with a cathar's crusade effect, and he's in the perfect colors to just obliterate artifacts. We found it's almost impossible to keep any artifacts around because there are so many ways to get rid of all the artifacts in play (the breya player was really struggling). The quality of the apes and monkeys don't matter too much when they're +10/+10 with trample. I used to be in the same boat about his power, but he's gonna surprise a lot of tables. 2. I LOVE AUNTIE BLYTE. Play a Wheel of Misfortune or Volcano Hellion and immediately make her big enough to one shot someone. If she already has Lifelink, you're laughing all the way to the winner's circle. She can kill people hilariously easy (And sometimes you but hey better to be lucky than good)
Isu will be really fun for Snow stuff, Ardoz fits perfectly into my Purphoros goblins deck and we got some neat toys for other assorted archetypes. Not a bad Jumpstart
Just the other day I discovered that I can print proxies of my deck directly off of Moxfield, and it even lets me select which ones to print. Absolute game changer, and the proxies look way better than the ones from the other website I had been using to proxy!
I had to make the Rat deck finally, I assembled the full colony in the last week, been wracking my brain on what I should include/cut. I’m eager to see some cheap “keyword lord” rats in the future, gimme a 2 mana rat that gives all rats menace or some shit.
IMO Auntie is a little underrated in power. Red has a lot of symmetrical group slug effects, your Mana Barbs, Pyrohemias, Zo-Zus, Repercussions, all that jazz, as well as damage amplifiers like Fiery Emancipation. Auntie turns these effects a lot more one-sided, so that's where she will thrive, I think. Unlike most comparable Punisher commanders, like Torbran, she has more of a toolbox approach. She has the ability to completely refund your life lost if you give her lifelink, can snipe a key creature or a well-defended player trying to stabilize, and can counter lifegain decks by going in for commander damage.
I don’t think Kibo’s ability to give your opponents mana is as bad as it normally would be. The reason I say this is because there’s a good handful of apes that blow up artifacts. If artifact destruction becomes a trend for future apes, then you might not care about giving opponents mana because they likely won’t have any mana rocks in the first place. Also, you have a choice to not use the ability. It’s there to synergies with Kibo’s main ability if your opponent doesn’t have any artifacts or artifact producers.
Love all the content and appreciate all your thoughts and takes as magic players. Really helps me as a player. I like to play less popular and weaker commanders and would be cool to see you two try to make the most out of limited options.
Honestly Kernanoss is sweet as is but apart of me wishes his ability could also get other merfolks and other fish-type creatures like fish, sharks, turtles and so on. It’s weird to me that Merfolk hardly work with other sea creatures as is, like we got one Merfolk that summons elementals (a Theros card, funny enough) like I don’t think these should be rare other than maybe listing that many words would be obnoxious or maybe Merfolk alone with be too strong but I’m just saying
Zask would do very well with giant adephage after he made one of his tokens. With no cards in hand you can still make the token an 11/11 with trample AND death touch that makes a new copy after it hurts you for just one! It’s practically a board wipe
So I've had the chance to get a kibo early and I will tell you on playtesting, the banana ability is 100% a ruse. Its cool to do SOMETIMES but with the treasure meta coming up, kibo is a STRONG treasure hater. Plus there are some cool apes/monkeys that synergies with blowing up artifacts. I am more than happy to elaborate if needed
I was considering Rodolf Duskbringer for my friends Oloro deck. He runs a lot of board wipes and Rodolf will always be indestructible on his turn. Then he can bring back something that died in the end step to top it off. Outside that there is more potential for him over the other two that share the same effect and that is he is not just mono white. Black has a lot of ways to put what you want in the graveyard so I expect to see a lot of graveyard interaction if this enters my meta. That's extra bad for me since I heavily use the graveyard for a lot of different strategies.
I think Rodolf is pretty cool. CMC is a bit high though. Cards like sun droplet are pretty awesome with him. Im trying to build a Sexy Reanimator deck for him.
@@NitpickingNerds Personally I'm thinking insects with a side of elementals (All the Titanias and Ancient Greenwarden) and Squandered Resources. Then throw in Conspiracy (Naming Insects of course) and Verdant Succession to go nuts with Zask's recursion ability. Grist is of course an autoinclude. Maybe include all the stuff that makes pests (not insects but they should be and Beledros ability to untap your lands is way to spicy to pass up).
Championship Title: 3 colorless Equip 5 +3/+3 Equipped creature can also attack off the top rope If you control a creature that has a name that is the same as a real person who has obtained a championship wrestling title, it may equip Championship Title for 0 at instant speed. If they successfully equip Champion Title, create a Metal Folding Chair artifact equipment. It does exactly what you think it does.
I made an ape tribal deck with neyith of the dire hunt as the commander like a year ago. I wanted to play old creature cards that reminded me of when I played as a kid and since apes are my favorite animals I thought that was a good pick. I’ll be honest, going up against an ur dragon deck with ape tribal is hilarious. Everyone roots for you. I don’t think I’ve ever cast “The Apes of Rath” without making the table laugh. (It’s a real card. I promise). I just had so much fun playing funny ape cards. Even losing didn’t feel bad. It was just a deck I felt really matched me as a person. My favorite animals, my favorite colors, doing what I did when I first started playing (attacking). It really centered me and made me realize what I like about the game. And now I’m making changes to the deck so it can work with the uktabi prince. I think at some point everyone should strive to make a deck that somehow matches with who they are spiritually regardless of power level. Really just be yourself in the deck building process and pick cards that make you happy. Ever since my ape deck, I couldn’t imagine not doing that to some degree. I find myself bringing pet cards to the table more often and I’m happier because of it.
auntie blyte with Wheel of misfortune or Volcano hellion allow you to pay enough life to one shot someone then if you can untap her (or just enxt turn) you remove the counters and nuke anotehr player. She has some really unique and powerful synergies
LOL I already got Celestine in my Dihada how about some redundancy with Rodolf and they have Deathtouch, Lifelink and Flying AND only cost 1 pip of black in the cmc= seems goood Runners up for exciting new cards to me: Ashcoat and Kenessos. ;p
Blyte would be like really good... if the mana cost for her activated would be Rakdos hybrid instead of "just red" so you would have access to the best "pay life for shit" cards. Now let's talk about Zask, I think you really underrated that boy, there are some great utility insects in BG and thanks to Golgari fuckery you won't have trouble milling yourself to have reliable access to it. Isu really feels like they forgot to print on the keyword abilities. And stats. And a better last ability that's just printed on to expand the colour identity. For a suggestion, in case MaRo for some reason reads this: 2UU 6/2 First Strike Snow-Covered lands have flash. Whenever a snow-covered land comes into play you may pay U or G or W to exile Isu, the Abominable and all auras attached to him. At the beginning of the next end step, return Isu, the Abominable to the battlefield under his owner's control. If you do, return the other cards exiled this way to the battlefield under their owners' control attached to that Isu, the Abominable.
Speaking on Isu, I believe Gavin has said Future Sight is his favorite card on a few occasions. Seeing as he has had a large increase in product design input since the heavy shift towards commander, it seems to correlate.
I love Jumpstart. Guys 2 questions. If you have no max hand size and have card that says draw a card, discard a card what happens. And if u copy a creature with an etb with errant street artist does the copy get the etb? Haven't finished vid. Guess for Moxfield at 6 mins 20 secs.
Excited to put Kenessos in my Arixmethes sea monster deck.. finally a way to win the game with sea monsters when I make infinite mana with Freed From the Real

It was in the caves of koilos right?
Didn't he get smooshed by Yore-Tiller Nephilim, in Dissension? It's been a loooong time
Giving Zask a 1 for coolness makes me sad. Big bug is inherently cool!
But he doesn’t look cool
I’ll back you. It’s a great mill commander that I will always call the the MILL-ipede.
The golgari flavour is off the charts!
I feel like Kibo is good if you totally ignore the tap ability 99% of the time
I think you might be right about that

Which commanders occupy the top 25 in your overall commander list? Maybe a good video idea?
