I wanted to simply buy a guitar off Amazon based on price alone. This guitar was $90, with free shipping. It's a full sized electric guitar. There are some "cheaper" than this one, but when you add shipping, the basement price seems to be right around 80 to 90 bucks. I didn't even read the description, just bought it sight unseen to see what I'd end up with. The result surprised me.

That would be a nice gift for a young person without breaking the bank. If they stick with playing guitar they can upgrade to a better used $300 one.
I’d say it’s less surprising that these inexpensive guitars are actually decent instruments and more surprising that they get delivered without being damaged in shipping
They're boxed up really well, I think the companies learned. Especially when selling on Amazon, the vendors are responsible for the returns. That can get expensive.
I've gotten a couple guitars with really beaten up boxes, but the guitars were not damaged. One, you could actually see the guitar through the top of the box and the bottom. However, guitar was not damaged at all.
@@Hellwilliam1 whoa!
One with the box speared by a fork lift. Had one rub on the neck from the Styrofoam which rubbed off.
@@Hellwilliam1 I bought a Luckwbq strat. Came only single boxed and it looked like it hadn’t been too beat up. However, when I opened it, there was a big bashed spot on the side that chipped the finish off. You can’t see it from the front, and nothing else was wrong with it, so I kept it. I probably would’ve damaged it like that myself eventually anyway.
I am amazed how decent these cheap guitars are. I am a furniture builder who started building guitars several years ago. I made my first couple completely from scratch. Then I discovered I could buy these super cheap kits and end up at the same place! Amazing. The setup is the MAIN thing. The cheapest guitar on earth can be made decent if the frets are level, the neck is straight, the nut is fitted (I throw away the plastic one and make my own) and the saddle is adjusted. Even the crappy tuners are acceptable if you use a good luther's knot. My wife gave me a $3000 Martin D-28 for my birthday and I STILL had to adjust the nut, saddle and truss rod a little to get it playing good. I am a big believer in cheap guitars! Thanks for the honest review!
Great information, thanks for commenting. I owned a D28 as well, and ended up selling it because the cheaper Eastman D8 sounded just as good to me. I didn't need to set up the D28 but I got it used and so it was ready to play.
That’s already a better buy than a Squier. Great modding platform. Put some good pickups in there, swap the tuners out, and you’ll have a sweet guitar. Along with dressing the fret ends.
I think that's the plan. I'm going to do a video about filing sharp ends down, then yeah, maybe the tuners, although I like these vintage style, as long as these are decent I'll keep them. I might seal the neck too and then change out the pickups. Although I've been playing with this one for a bit here, and it's probably one of the best sounding cheap guitars I've bought. I really need to round all these guitars up and do some sound demos with a backing track.
Can you do a video or a series of videos on that guitar setting the intonation and set up? Would make for a great video!
Sounds like a good idea.
That beak reminds me of a 70s Harmony electric, got a couple of those!
Yeah. It does now that you mention it.
The frets stick out of the fretboard, not of the neck. An unsealed neck will likely be more sensitive to humidity variations. Truss rod adjustments might be required more often.
The headstock is fine. The bird beak is a way of being individual, so it doesn't look like it's trying to copy another brand.
I like a thinner body. I prefer lighter guitars but a full thickness body makes it possible to replace the bridge without worrying about size if one wants to.
It sounds alright. Intonation is not an issue. It will be off after the first string change anyway.
Correct. I actually bought some new hardware, including a steel trem block for my Squier Debut, they make shortened versions to fit thinner bodies. I'm curious to see if it makes a difference.
@@JayceAllanGuitar A competent comparison would be interesting. A weightier block brings inertia, which ought to improve the high end a little but I'm afraid people exaggerate this.
What I know from experience is that stiffer springs do this in a more significant way.
Perfect video, great job. The best Paul.
Thank you. Glad to have you.
I dig it. I bet it could be something with a set up and maybe future super strat Modder. Im digging it. Great review bro!!!
Thank you.
Just to play "Devil's Advocate" for a bit, I imagine that these guitars are shipped over the ocean from China to The United States on container ships. With all of that salty sea splashing around and a couple of rainstorms, I'm guessing the humidity on those ships is HIGH. If this is the case, the wood would be swollen from the absorption of water from the air. Once this guitar acclimates to the humidity of your home, I would expect the neck to shrink. Then, I predict that you will REALLY see some "fret sprout."
I'm sure all sorts of factors can effect the wood, especially since the neck is unfinished. I'm guessing the containers are pretty hot and humid. The fact that these guitars show up in as good condition as they do given that fact is amazing.
I bought a gator electric guitar gig bag and was surprised to see the interior was that shiny black material. Will this scratch the guitar finish? I have taken to put the guitar in a cotton pillow case just in case.
Inexpensive mod guitar that looks to be at least a decent platform. A little quick and easy TLC and that would be a player for sure. Plus a gig bag. I would ditch the trem and bolt it down permanently unless you want to swap it for a Floyd Rose lock system lol
Named after a Star, so it HAS to shine!
(I'll let myself out!)
Ba'dump bump.

Hi Jayce Bargain,,first time subscriber,,nice review,,Thanks for having me aboard!
Welcome! Thanks for tuning in.
I heard you mention you got a Tease Guitar, I got mine about a month ago its the TS -1 and it was a customer return that I got for 105.00 I really like it a lot. It has Alnico 5 pickups and a bone nut because it was a return the owner of Tease guitars Torston set it up and he did a great job it's the 2024 model nice maple neck and fret board with no issues it has a few upgrades from the previous years models. I think its a fine Strat style guitar. I was amazed I didn't need to do anything to it out of the box but play it. Do you like your Tease, The guitar you demoed would be great for a kid or a beginner.
I like it. It's a fine guitar. It's almost too lightweight because of the basswood body. But it sounds good and the setup it great.
Even a brand new, MIA Fender Strat can have fret sprouts IF it’s been in a box for several months subject to changes in humidity in a warehouse. In fact, it’s not too uncommon on rosewood style fretboards due to the wood contracting.
Very true.
I bought a danelectro longhorn with (they said) a rosewood fretboard. My mate bought a danelectro 59 twelve string with pau ferro? Fretboard. His fretboard looks a lot darker than mine!? Is this right?
Could be, the color of both woods varies, and if you put lemon oil on the fretboard it will darken. I've got some rosewood fretboards that look almost like ebony. Some Pau Ferro can pass as rosewood.
Might wanna check that thing for lead. Guitar Max found some in his Chinese guitars.
I saw that episode.
you mean there's allegedly lead in those guitar paint ? no, way the Chicoms would never use lead paint.. lol
@@Mr.PhatsVarietyVibesShow I think one of them had lead showing up on the fret wire.
@@Wilco1972 that sucks.... lead on a fret wire sucks maybe the metal they use has impurities if true this gotta suck
@@Wilco1972 That was on an older guitar I believe. I'd have to watch the video again. Might be a good video idea to test my guitars.
I am curious about the shape and width of the neck compared to the Squier. Is it very similar to the Squier in terms of weight? Great channel by the way😊
I'll have to put a gauge to it. I forgot to measure the fretboard radius as well, so I'll try to do that tonight when I get home from work.
@@JayceAllanGuitar That is very nice of you. Hope you have a great day!
@@JayceAllanGuitar say this guitar Currently unavailable. on the AMZN link
Wow, that quick. Thanks.
Are the cheap Harley Benton TE 62 with skunk stripe on the back of their necks, do they have finished necks? The Harley Benton TE 62 are void of serial numbers on the back of their headstocks. They do come with serial numbers but they are on a separate tag 🏷️
I’m not sure. I can’t remember which model HB I had. I’d have to go back and look at the video.
My HB TE 62 has a nice smooth finished neck
Looks like the fesley gigbag but the fesley one looks a bit thicker.
I noticed that too. Wondering if these are made in the same factory.
Have you tried Monoprice? For me they're like the gateway to affordable guitars. Well worth checking out.
I have not yet. I'll have to look into those.
@@JayceAllanGuitarGot a Monoprice Indio Tele for Christmas. $109 with a nice gig bag. Maple neck and fretboard, basswood body. For the price, I really dig it.
A Super Strat with full body, Kluson style tuners, slab fingerboard, roller string tree, and worse, similar sunburst finish to vintage Strats for about AUD $140 ??? 😮I could buy it for the body alone a be way ahead. Swap the pickups, the 6 screw trem system and if the tuners are shoddy, replace with Kluson tuners from Fender. Pots seem OK as it is, depend on cavity but even high end ESP's I've seen with the "dime" ones. Clean up the frets etc. stain the neck (maybe a touch of Linseed oil) and headstock to that faded nitro look and would look a treat.🤩
Most of these cheap (Amazon US) guitars don't ship to Australia but there are some real bargains in the US. That sucks big time but the guitar certainly doesn't for that price. Watching "Scar My Guitar" he reviews many of these as well.👍
Can you get guitars from Thomann?
@@JayceAllanGuitar There are a few with funny names in the price range but from Amazon AU. Thomann UK/DE not sure?
@@KevinHallSurfing I know for a while we in the US could get Thomann products and I want to say shipping was free or very affordable but they lost their rates or something happened so now the cost to ship a single guitar is outrageous. I just wondered if the shipping was better from UK to you.
@@JayceAllanGuitar Worse! Postage from "shopping cart" inquiry result "Sadly we cannot deliver Fender products to your country of choice" - Thomann 😲
I have a few guitars I play, Strat, 84-87 E series '62 reissue made in Japan bought in 1990 s/h. Also 2 x MIJ ESP's [2006 VIPER, 2008 MII - NTB] and the classic '92 MIJ Jackson Pro Fusion II.
Checking Reverb postage US to AU anything from AUD $300 - $900 ... ouch ... but my '66 transitional CBS sunburst Strat was stolen many years ago (now around AUD $30,000 to replace) and thinking about building a replica hence the interest when I saw your vid. 🤩
Just tried a cheap guitar (Harley Benton Strat) UK to AU postage UPS was $259,08 AUD. Hope this helps.🤠
Same quality tag Fender factories uses.
I meant to show a picture of it in the video and forgot to add it. But it shows the string heights in mm's at the 1st and 12th frets, plus that a person checked off on the quality.
Not a bad guitar. Looks good, and for a kid that means something. My 1st guitar was a plywood bodied, telephone pole guy wire stringed, finger shredder when all I wanted was a cheap strat so I could imagine I was Jimmy or Eric... I eventually, uhhh... broke that one by tripping over it and accidently kicking it across the room a few times(which eventually cracked it). I told my parents what I'd really like and then they listened to the guy at the music store and brought me back a... Yamaha classical! 🙄🙄 But you know, mom and dad tried. They were really saints! I did keep that one for many years until someone stole it... I've definitely seen worse than that little gem!
I love first guitar stories. Mine was a Harmony 3/4 size acoustic with action that was a foot off the fret board! LOL
I prefer matte necks but unfinished necks are also just fine by me. I'm not too fond of thick sticky paints on the neck. How can they make a guitar that looks this good and provide a decent gig bag for just 90 bucks. Of course it's going to have some minor issues, but what the hell?
I’m going to do a video showing how to file down the fret sprout. Out of all the cheap guitars I’ve bought the past several months this one is among the top. I’m pretty surprised with it.
@@JayceAllanGuitar I wish I had bought a proper fret end file sooner, it is one of the things nobody talked about back when I started playing. If fret ends were sticking out you just lived with it or took the thing to the luthier if it was unplayable :)
I just have a set of small files I got cheap off Amazon. I'm going to try to shoot that video today.
@@JayceAllanGuitar I am also going to get a set of nut files. Should have done that a long time ago.
@@svarfinnbogason3645 They are nice to have.
Now you have three cheap guitars. Hoo rah! Is there no end to the cheapness?
LOL. Probably not. I am going to get a USA made strat or a PRS here soon so I can do some side by side comparisons. If I could afford it...I'd buy ALL the guitars!
@@JayceAllanGuitar I just watched your last video. I'll stop being a sarcastic putz now.
No worries.
Halfway through, you've yet to "show" the makers name. Since it's an unknown, that might have been first. BTW, they're no longer available on Amazon, and no price is listed, 5 ours after your post.
I mention the brand at 1:11 in the video. And posted a link to the guitar as well.
looks like a nice one brother!
hekk you could sell the guitar for 75bux n keep the bag....thats a 30-40 dollar value just in the bag lol!
I was thinking of doing a complete set up on it and maybe even reshape the headstock and finish the neck and list it for $150! LOL
@@JayceAllanGuitar koool beanz!
I think the Chinese are better judges of what we as guitar buyers want. These guitars are probably bought by People that have been playing a while and not beginner's. These companies know we've been neglected by the big companies and see a void to fill.
When the same companies can at least throw in some case candy when Fender tries to sell it to you. If only we could move into other body styles instead of Strats,Telecasters and Les Paul's. Maybe they could do a real affordable headless.
I'm with you on wanting different body styles.
so what ? any idea how many people have done the exact same thing before you, and made a video about it, like a zilllion times ?
So what? Any idea how many people have posted this exact comment on videos all over UA-cam? I guess no one is original.
But that headstock?? Blechhhhh... :)
I didn’t think it was as bad as some.
You show the guitar only at 5 minutes into the video. You are quite slow to get to the point, which is annoying.
What's your hurry?
Well it is an unboxing, so there's that. Plus, maybe figure out how to use UA-cam, you can actually skip ahead if you're impatient.
I once watched 3 episodes of the Sopranos on HBO for a total of over 3 hours before they got to a point or storyline arc. And you’re complaining about 5 minutes? 😂😂😂😂😂😂
Where’s your UA-cam channel so I can go check out your superior editing skills?
.. we are living in the 21st century .. we have tools, machines and technology to help us produce cheap good products .. not only guitars but other products too
.. just because Fender/Gibson/Ferarri sells great expensive products doesn't that mean cheap products are 'bad products'
My thoughts exactly.
