72 y/0 and just discovering the most talented guitar player I've heard in my life, so far. I was even living in Austin, Tx, from January 1981-1984. And I failed to notice the greatest with an ax! I believe I went downtown maybe 3-4 times. Anyway, you r great and your music will always have others to try to be as good, Mayer is good, but not the Heart!
Don't feel badly, Henauder, I'm 65 and discovered and am now obsessed by him. I think I know enough to write another biography and I can listen to him 24/7 and not get tired of it. My son is an excellent drummer and self-taught lead guitarist as a side gig and has loaned me his first strat to try to learn a bit.

I didn't even discover who Stevie was until 88 or 89, when i heard the telephone song on playing on the radio. Immediately after hearing it, since i didn't catch his name, i kept listening to that station until they played it again. Once i heard his name, i went to the record store and bought a couple of cassette tapes to start with. I was hooked from that moment i heard it on the radio. I bought anything he had, even a best of years later. What a loss. Next to family, it's one of those losses that you truly don't forget.

So I have never seen SRV with this Red Strat. And being a huge SRV fan, I had to find out.... Red was one of the lesser known Stratocasters that Stevie Ray possessed. Red was a 1964 Stratocaster with a rosewood neck. This red color was later offered by Fender as a custom color option. Later, Rene Martinez installed a left-handed 1964 rosewood neck on Red sometime during the mid 80's. Not much change was undergone on the Red Stratocaster, however, Stevie did add heavier gauge strings and "SRV" initials to the guitar. Stevie liked to use Red for "Love Struck Baby" and "Pride And Joy". He also used sometimes used Red instead of Number One for "Rude Mood". Stevie liked to play it rather clean, sometimes with an Echoplex and the Vibratone unit.
As a guitarist and huge SRV fan, thanks very much for the info on this Strat. I've seen a couple of red 60's Strats before, love that look, but was wondering about the left-handed neck? Of course, Hendrix was one of Stevie's main guitar heroes, but Jimi's entire guitars were left-handed, because he liked the vibrato arm and maybe the controls too opposite of normal, but why just the neck? Odd. An Albert King Flying V influence?

He was (sadly) the best I've ever seen. I've never seen anyone who could just lay into their guitar and play exactly what they wanted like this. For me at least, this is another level of ability. It's not limited to guitar playing, you can do this in any skill, but you have to be really, really good

I didn't even discover who Stevie was until 88 or 89, when i heard the telephone song on playing on the radio. Immediately after hearing it, since i didn't catch his name, i kept listening to that station until they played it again. Once i heard his name, i went to the record store and bought a couple of cassette tapes to start with. I was hooked from that moment i heard it on the radio. I bought anything he had, even a best of years later. What a loss. Next to family, it's one of those losses that you truly don't forget.

So I have never seen SRV with this Red Strat. And being a huge SRV fan, I had to find out....
Red was one of the lesser known Stratocasters that Stevie Ray possessed. Red was a 1964 Stratocaster with a rosewood neck. This red color was later offered by Fender as a custom color option. Later, Rene Martinez installed a left-handed 1964 rosewood neck on Red sometime during the mid 80's. Not much change was undergone on the Red Stratocaster, however, Stevie did add heavier gauge strings and "SRV" initials to the guitar. Stevie liked to use Red for "Love Struck Baby" and "Pride And Joy". He also used sometimes used Red instead of Number One for "Rude Mood". Stevie liked to play it rather clean, sometimes with an Echoplex and the Vibratone unit.

As a guitarist and huge SRV fan, thanks very much for the info on this Strat. I've seen a couple of red 60's Strats before, love that look, but was wondering about the left-handed neck? Of course, Hendrix was one of Stevie's main guitar heroes, but Jimi's entire guitars were left-handed, because he liked the vibrato arm and maybe the controls too opposite of normal, but why just the neck? Odd. An Albert King Flying V influence?
