What a nice resting place for your gonk! The wood really gives your mushroom character. It was nice to see the process in real time. Thank you. We need to combine the wet cloudy weather you have there with the cold clear weather we have here so that we can have a white Christmas! I'm afraid the only white we'll have will be frost. Hi Andy Nice little project to turn on a wet and windy day looks great. I turned a few mushrooms years ago using wet wooden branches I made the stems much longer ,and after microwaving they all changed into interesting shapes. A nice ,simple and quick peoject The spalting adda nice details to what might be a bit of holly Many turners refer ro unknown wood as F ound on ground or FOG OR IDK I don't know I give bark on natural edge pieces a dab of some shellac sanding sealer. It soaks in a bit seals it and hardens it up a bit and gives a bit if a sheen A very nice shroom

Andy - is there an ‘optimal’ level of moisture in the logs that you are turning? I hope the ‘phoenix’ is starting to to take shape, even if it’s still on the drawing board?
@@TController I think that it is about 12 to 15 percent ideally... But I never measure it, I like turning wet wood and havn't had any problems with cracking.. avoid Cherry as it cracks badly.. The wax or oil finish will help to slow the drying down and keep away from any heat sources so it doesn't dry quickly which can cause cracks... I poured the concrete into the foundations today and will post an update later on in the week... Take care my friend...All the best.....Andy

There's a type of wild mushrooms called 'boletes' that tend towards bulbous stems.
