I use Affinity and am pretty happy with it's results. It would be nice if it saved to raw but I got around that by editing all the photos before stitching. I saved presets from the first edit and applied them to each image then stitched the jpegs. It seemed to speed up the stitching quite a bit that way too. Like another commenter mentioned you can fill up blank areas as well.
@@takebetterphotos8132 I use Affinity for all of my editing now. Usually in the raw persona as they call it in Affinity I just mess with the black levels, exposure, vibrancy, shadows/highlights and usually some sharpening. Maybe some defringing as well. I normally don't mess with the white balance. The rest I'll do in the main photo persona. I'm nowhere near a power user of Affinity but have experimented a bit here and there. Saving and using presets lately has sped up the workflow a bit. It's something I plan to do a lot more of going forward along with macros.
Thanks for the feedback, yes develop persona is more than suitable. Do you find it problematic to transfer your edits across multiple panorama brackets. I thought that would be the advantage of using LR or C1 as it has abuilt in photo browser.
@@takebetterphotos8132 It took a little while to open each file up and apply the edits. Maybe half an hour or so for about 30 files. I only had to apply 4 or 5 presets to each one and then export. It would be easier in something like LR but Affinity has several advantages for me. Apart from being reasonably priced and available to own outright it also doesn't need a lot of memory to run. When I bought my laptop I didn't realize that the memory wasn't expandable so I'm stuck with 8gb ram which is plenty for Affinity. I haven't done many big panoramas but after picking up a 4 foot x 2 foot poster of the last one I did I'm keen to do more. You get a lot of detail out of an almost 200mp file.
Wow 30 files. But half an hour doesnt seem that bad. Have to check on the facilities of Affinity for speeding up this process. Yes panorama is the worst in using up computer resources. Amazing Affinity actually worked for you with just 8GB on a laptop. Frankly when I did the video Affinity and Lightroom gave me the least problems on big panoramas. Luminar would crash and Capture One would just time out.
Thanks for the feedback I should really check out the experience useing Lightroom 6 is in 2024. Perhaps it is good enough! I have never done Windows ICE, how does that differ from PTGUI?
I feel like you were misspoken on a number of issues: On1 does create a raw pano and you ignored Brilliance AI but praised Neo clarity? On1 is my primary photo editor and DAM even though I teach Lightroom Classic and Photoshop at the college level. But when I am doing any kind of stitching I use the On1 plugin feature to go to Affinity Photo 2 where I create the pano or HDR, etc. One big feature in Affinity Photo is the tone-mapping persona. When I get done by closing the image in Affinity it comes back to On1 as layer. By either saving that as a stamped layer or just letting On1 create its metadata I can come back later, click on the affinity photo layer and it will open up affinity photo and I can make changes.
I have been trying different stitching programs. One option on my DJI Mavic 3 Pro, is to automatically take a 180 degree panorama. To achieve this, it takes 21 seperate images, in DNG (if you choose to shoot in RAW format). The drone pans and tilts the camera (and drone) accordingly to enable it to 7 rows of 3 images per row by itself. It's astonishing really Lightroom is able to stitch them every time, and usually does a very nice job. However, when shooting across the coastline, it stuggles to stitch the ocean nicely right the way across. It does not run in a straight line, it has steps in it which are near impossible to fix I ran a few in PTGui, and it was not able to stitch the photo at all. It came up with a error and forced me to manually take over and attempt to do so I was not able to get it to work with these files that worjked in Lighroom I also tried Panonvolo, which is (claimed) to have been created for drone images This actually stitched them better than Lightroom, but lacked actual image quality The clarity, highlights and shadows are unbeatable using the Lightroom stitching function You can take a look at some of my images at instagram.com/brett.ritchie.images/?hl=en

Using Lightroom 6 for a while and it is ok! As an alternative Windows ICE is also good - but from memory it does not do RAW images!

I limited the test to RAW editors built-in panorama functions. Didn't include standalone apps this one 🙂

That is very helpful thanks for the tip. I believe iit uses the same process as the inpainting tool. Another plus for affinity!
