✅ SECRETS OF BANGKOK'S NEW FOREST PARK & THE GREEN MILE | What The Other Videos Don't Show!
Вставка
- Опубліковано 10 лют 2025
- I took a stroll around the four corners of Benjakitti Forest Park exploring the parts never before explored!. This new forest/jungle park is on the land of the former Thailand Tobacco Monopoly, this large green space uses the old warehouses for sports facilities. This urban jungle will grow into something spectacular in a few years time and all those skywalks will provide a great experience.
I also take a look under the Green Mile, where a community lives alongside the canal. Plus two major dilemmas you can help with! Enjoy.

After a long walk in the park, you could use some iced tea. Enjoy.
Thank you very much 🤩
Thanks BBK Pat....keep up the great work and hopefully come across you in my Thailand travels December-January
Thank you very much for the support, and see you soon maybe!
Out of all the Thai vid's l watch your's are second to none, great work.
Nah, not second. His are first to none 😂
Cheers John, didn't realise 'first to none' was a thing but I'll take that! 😎
Great video, Pat! I like that your videos give us time to absorb the landscape, very relaxing. And your sense of humor is the best.
Cheers CZ. Nothing worse than rushing through a park waving the camera about!
I love the walking and talking concept of this video!
I love your work 👍
Thank you very much.
Pat
Very good thoughts about the impact on the local community.
Thanks so much of making this. I just moved in to one of the building you shot in the video, it’s such a pleasure to know some knowledge and history of my new neighborhood.
Glad to hear that! I trust it's one of the posher buildings!!
'A green lung' from a defunct tobacco processing facility! Wow! The irony. Good post Pat. Forget 'personal involvement' on this forum!
Thanks it is rather ironic isn't it! All for the better I suppose!
Wow great to see what’s below the green mile!
13:16 How delightful...... I'd love to take a stroll under the Green Mile! ,.,,,,,,, Thanks Pat, loved it 👍
Thanks Bill,. Well worth a visit and some nice people there too.
I love the inherent, “bugger you if you don’t like it” honesty of the name of the Thai Tobacco Monopoly.
YES
😎ok
Really interesting video Pat, you have shown the park better than others have that I have previously seen. Looks like it would be good to walk around in the morning before it gets too hot.
The community underneath the Green Mile also looks like a worthy visit.
Regarding your old colleague, he definitely needs a good talking to by someone, whether the police are right ones I don't know.
Great video, Pat. I like this new park and will visit it when back in BKK. But I also miss "the old times" when it felt like an adventurous achievement to find a cab driver who was able to shortcut through the Tobacco Monopoly grounds on the way in and out of Soi 4.
Very detailed introduction of the park that I can visit the park when I am in Bangkok next Feb. Look forward to it! Thanks
Early morning in Thailand is special... thanks for the video 🙏👍
I was there after lunch, but morning there is great. Cheers Ivan.
Sorry I thought I heard you say something about coming back the next day early morning... well I enjoyed the video as usual, sorry for my out of contest comment 🙏 till the next one 👍
Thanks for another great vlog on Benjakitti Forest Park.👍
Great episode. Thanks Pat.
After watching your previous videos, I'm missing those early years of Bangkok back in the early 2000s..still remember before Siam Paragon, there was this Intercontinental Siam hotel which stood there..the old Pratunam market which stretch to the present Platinum mall...and along the street after the old World Trade Centre(Central World Plaza now), alot of good old street foods...good memories.
Walked around the park last week. It is seriously an amazing addition to Bangkok. Next visit I will take the bike out of the box
Those bikes whizz round fast and security keep an eye on any major walkways that cross the path.
Another excellent piece, both visually and audibly.
Great share, Pat. I'll really have to revisit these two parks. Didn't even know they were connected with an elevated walkway!
Worth the walk and if the dog park area winds you up, you will end up amongst the cats in Lumpini Park anyway!
@@BangkokPat Thanks, Pat. Like you, I much prefer the company of cats 😼
Wow Bangkok Pat, this park is the first walk I did when I got to Bangers in September. You cover all the bases.
Gotta be thorough as I always say, nothing worse than a video that doesn't give you the whole picture!
13:40 Good point! Thanks as always, Pat!
WoW Pat, another really informative Vlog !
Glad you enjoyed it Mark, cheers!
I went running every day in Lumpini park, but I will have to try this park next time.
I'll be coming to Bangkok for New year with Daughter, I'll pay a visit to the Green mile and help the vendors, thanks for the heads up.
Great infrastructure in place loads of potential.
Great Work Pat, your interesting stories and research of your videos never cease to amaze me. Cheers Mate!
I really love the Green Mile ^_^ Next time I'll go underneath too!
Yet another enjoyable vid, thanks to Pat. I visit the Benjakittis 2/3 times per week. Living just a 20 minute walk away, I feel very lucky to have such large green areas close at hand. Other parts of the city are not so lucky - have you been across the river to the area served by the MRT's western flank between Tao Poon and Bang Wa? No parks over there as far as I can tell. As for your 'friend': I knew somebody once who installed tracking software on his Thai GFs phone. But she was smarter than he was and returned the favour without telling him. She caught him in MacDonalds with another girl, picked up his Big Mac and began beating him around the head with it. The moral of the story is this: if there is no trust, then move on. Obsessive jealousy in this town spells trouble. The friend will find this out for himself.
I lived in soi Ruam Rudee in the early 80s. The nearby soi Polo was an airy and bright neighborhood that we kids used to hang out. Sad to see what it has become now.
Great video for this week
Thanks for the upload
Thanks for this nice video 🙏
New park is great, very large. The swampy marsh was designed as a natural water cleaning system. That dirty canal was dumping into the rivers and going out to sea causing many environmental issues. Now the water coming out of the park has had the effluent screened a little by the plants. It’s a great idea and functional.
Beautiful forest park 😲😉👍
Very nice channel ❤
No. Leave cops out of it. Not your business.
This is quite a nice park, almost better than Lumpini. I can almost imagine all the frogs and water birds in the swampy areas. Great video as always. Thank you.
😎I'm staying out of it. You're right, none of my concern! Thanks Dexxter!
Thanks for the video Pat. I will go for a walk around there next time I’m in Bangkok next month. I’ve been to Lumpini park Bangkok, what I didn’t know about this place.
Good man Pat 👍
Cheers Brendan🙂
Nice Video Pat. I remember the time from the Tobacco Company. Many time I walked the Green Mile, but never go below. Good idea for the next time to go downstairs and have a drink and walk around in that area. 🙏
Great park perfect for kids etc
It's one big adventure for the kid, for sure. Cheers Tim.
Nice one Pat. Yes, he's stalking her, yes, he's not quite right in the head. Really liked this video, seeing spaces like this is really interesting, much better than watching paint dry!
Nice video Pat 👍
Cheers mate!
Thanks, Pat. Very nice.
Cheers Rex.
Lovely video again Pat.
I’ve not been back since 2017 so a lot of that is all new to me.
I used to pick up the Green Mile at the end of Soi 10.
Nice walk next to the canal.
It must be about a mile & 1/4 for me then.
I’ve never walked below it.
I will do that next time. Spend some money with the locals.
And I’ve always liked the Millennium Residence.
The four towers with helicopter pads for those that didn’t know their name.
Loved the cats and dogs rant/scheme hehehe I'm in on it ;)
Cats deserve a fair crack in this dog obsessed world.....
@@BangkokPat You can say that again. That scene from Meet the Parents come to mind hehe
Thanks Pat
Spending time with the cats much better then watching paint dry, take some food as well.... Cats just love cooked chicken
Pat I remember the antics that the UK expats that worked at the tobacco.
I used to go in to Joules bar on soi 4 early 90s that many of them drank. When a new bloke came from the UK to work there. He was soon taken care of by the other uk blokes has it was their first time in Thailand . So you can imagine
Nana plaza was involved when they were drunk and lady's that were not and the photo's were taken in very comprising
Acts. That they only found out next day when sobered up and wondering what happened the night before Most took it has a quick learning curve and in good humour.
We must have been drinking in Jools at the same time, when KF and MS had the place, the Saturday afternoon sessions were legendary. First time I met Big Dave was in the Farang Connection before he took over Jools. Thanks for the trip down memory lane.
Typical Brits, sounds like a lot of laughs though.
It becomes stalking when the women becomes aware and disturbed by the mans behaviour. Until she is in actual distress, it's not stalking per se, unless you're intuition tells you she is in danger Pat. No harm in dropping a little anonymous tip to the cops tho and see if he changes his behviour. You can tell the cracked ones because no amount of fines, court times, warning, or requests to back off will stop the stalking. That's when you know its an obssession as opposed to infatuation.
@@WasOnce. I won't be saying anything, but he is a bit of a sneaky slimy guy, who was never a mate.
Only when I visited the renewed QSNCC did I do an extensive tour of the park, and I loved it. I enter the park from Soi 10. Especially during these chilly morning temperatures it's great. Have a look at the QSNCC and go for a morning coffee before you return home.
Nice, you are indeed an Bangkok expert :D
Wonderful video, Pat ~ I enjoyed my walk around the park when I was there in August. A really great addition to the city! I just discovered your channel and admire so much how you balance your videos. The blend of information, anecdotes and your videography is perfect. I have been binge-watching and appreciate that you show areas that most others don't ~ a real boon for us Bangkok lovers.
Another gem of a video Pat, I hope we can meet up for a cup of coffee ☕️ before I head back to the states 👏👍😎
Really enjoyed this video. Haven't been to Bangkok in 4 years but used to work in Bangkok and spent a lot of time at Lumpini Park. Had no idea this park existed. I like your style. Not sensationalist but contemplative and quietly informative. Be interested now to check out your other videos. Well done - most enjoyable.
Wow i went to benjakiti park in 2018 but i dont have the idea of that part of the park, thanks for sharing about the question, 😸🙏🏻🇹🇭 cats are buddhist people in the next life so i will look for a friendly cat😆
ANOTHER Place I'll have to explore when I'm FINALLY back in Bangkok next month! Thanks for telling us about it, Pat! :-)
Cheers Sean! Great walking environment!
Hopefully they will build those public sports facilities soon! Discussing with others public sports facilities are needed in every park at least an area dedicated for public recreational sports!
It’s Unfortunate to see the behind(below) the scenes of the green mile! Interesting there’s a church on one side and a mosque on the other of the green mile! I have a feeling eventually this community will be moved out to make way for development! I hope just restaurants cafes nice bars nice bars instead of condos offices
Another great video, thanks.🇹🇭
Great video again Pat,the tobacco company that owned the land must have made a fortune,,good Piont about the people living under the green mile
Thanks Geoffrey, great that a tobacco monopoly lets its land become a 'green lung' as opposed to a diseased one!
Great Video Pat! Thx!. The jogging track is btw. 1,8 km long. an the bycicle route 3,4 km. About dogs. some of my friends have dogs ( so do i). And it is hard to find a place in the city whre you can let them run free and without endangering them by street dogs. So i am grateful für any separate dog area in parks. The interesting thing about Benjakitti is for me, that the huge areas are entirely green and with the footpath above them there is a good chance for interesting animals. Best time to watch in the evening. And a nice variety of snakes will love the area too. Will check it next time I am there.
Nice to have another park. It was surprisingly quiet. I am not a big fan of police actions so I would get away from the area. I would not trust them to confine their exercises to one park.
Thank you for reminding us about the hidden costs of development - even nice ones.
Quality video Pat. Informative and relaxing with excellent photography and music. Head for Lumpini park and a bit of cat watching. PS I hate to say it but do the monitors eat the cats ?
Thanks Rob, was a lot of fun lurking around there for a couple of days.
The monitors don't generally pursue live prey, and from what I have seen they are too cumbersome and slow to catch a cat. Cats seem to know it and don't even look alarmed when one is nearby.
Great vlog Ill try the other side of Sukhumvit Soi 4..I've done the first scenario. Regarding your friend...trust your gut feeling. Scoping someone out isn't a good sign. I enjoy the channel.
Aloha Pat! You were there a week before APAC and I was there a week after... but I confess I've only done the walk about the Pond, never ventured into the 'swamp'. First I've heard of the Green Mile; I'm a walker and so I'll have to check it out, with a visit to the residents below as you suggested. Bill
👍👍👍
I took a stroll 🚶♂️ along the roadway under the green mile a little while back after our tour, it’s a really interesting glimpse into the real parts of Bangkok 👍😎
Glad to hear that Dan, it's a look at life on the other side of all the flash expats in their expensive clothes walking above!
Benjakitti Park looks nice! Hey how about doing Rommaninat Park next?
Good idea, it's where the old prison was, I could do a double bill of parks in one video!
The first time I travelled to Bangkok on my own was in December 2005. I stayed at Charlie House, a guesthouse located at Soi Ngam Dupli. Across was Suan Lumphini and the night bazaar. It was cold, yes, that year was still the cool season. At near the end of the video clip, you showed the Indo Masjid. Its located near Soi Polo. The builders of this masjid came from Indonesia and there is a Muslim community around that mosque. I will check it out on my next trip in early December minus the cool season. Just report that stalker to the local RTP..
I saw that on Google Maps and decided to go look. That's how I discovered what I later found out was the Green Mile.
I had a walk around the Park earlier in the year, its great! and your old mate from back in the day sounds out off order to me, I would just tell him mate.
Heaven is a halfpipe is a tune to rule them all!
Great video as always there is something new to learn.
Regarding your old friend and colleague, he should wake up from the bubble and move on😒
The wheel has already been invented😎
Another gem Pat! I had heard about the Green mile from other vloggers but didn't know the backstory. Very interesting indeed. Ironically, we were staying in Nana, only minutes from Benjakitti park but didn't realize till our last day....😕. As for the dilemma, my suggestion is leave it be. This individual will eventually "hang" himself by his own actions. Unless, of course, you feel he's a threat to others. Keep up the great work 👍🏽
Loved this park! Used to enter from the Asok BTS side just as the sun set. The view of the last sun rays getting reflected on those high rises is spectacular. There are bats flying around there too, you can see them before it gets really dark.
I always took a stroll on that walkway they build over the marsh, there are so many beautiful Instagram girls making selfies there. No harm in getting an eyeful of that.
Regarding that old friend it's really worrying that he would share this with you after 20 years. I'd be tempted to turn the blind eye, but I would carry a nagging feeling after. I'd talk to someone(police), rather than to worry about reading about him in the news a few months down the line. You don't know what kind of person he has developed into since you las saw him.
Looking forward to see those cats on my next visit to the park🤐
I enjoy the static set ups. With interesting Info. Too many shaky heavily cut fluff videos to music out there. But they have their place too I guess
Everyone has their methods, but parts of this park need to be looked at rather than just swirling a camera around like certain youtubers do,
Wonderful places! Love the cat project very much, how did they come up with that dog park nonsense. We need the cats!
I'll get the cats in gradually, just wait and see....
@@BangkokPat 😻😻
Call the kops 🎧😝🎼
ok will do sir
Nice one Pat. I look forward to walking around that park. Looks like it needs a few more bicycle paint symbols - As I walked around listening to skatepark soundtracks on my earphones, I may get mowed down. You would have thought they'd have put clean water into the marshes, and some kind of filtration system. We've messed the ecology up ourselves though - remember the poor red squirrel. Maybe that dog water feeder needs paw biometrics, to keep the strays out 🙃. I wouldn't tell the police - I'd tell her somehow, though difficult to do, without staking out.
Cheers Justin, maybe they will install dog paw print tech so the cats don't sabotage the water and I'm not saying shit to the cops!
The new end of Suk soi4 is more interesting than the begin of soi4:).
Never knew of the going’s on at the top of soi 4 😉 and the bottom where the park is Pat . I would like to walk the path below 👌👌 as for your mate I would have a quiet word with him 1st if your comfortable with saying to him
That isn’t right what your doing. Ps cats for sure
I won't grass him to the cops, l will leave well alone mate. And he never really was a mate anyway!
Pat, very nice vdo. 😃 You might interest go to "Nawamin Phirom Park"......... the story about this is the national housing authority got the project build the condos on this park, they will fill the lake at the park turn it to 30 stories building and it will be 29 buildings. The community near the project are going resist this plan of NHA. Come and check it out it's very nice park. The Park is a little short walk form the end of the line San Sab boat on the east," Wat Sri Boon Ruang" Pier. 👍👍👍👍
Thanks, I just looked and I want to visit! So there are no more plans to fill the lake? Is there any more info on this? This would make an interesting video and to film around Khlong Chan housing estate too. Cheers for the tipoff!
@@BangkokPat it's begining of the plan, and not much of the info about this, but the community knows , if go to public will be a big news. If you got there you will see the lots of black or red sign hang in front of the house "no condos", just accross the street form the park entrance.
The resons NHA want to fill the lake and build the condos is BTS brown line will pass on Nawamin Rd. north of the park in the short future, that why. 👍
The cats win every time Pat.... lol I a sitting at home in Wales with a big black moggie on my lap watching this, he gets most upset if i need to move! You pose an interesting question...... do you think your old work colleague is dangerous in any way? Until he actually does something illegal i doubt plod will want to get involved.......
Indeed hope there will be more cats in the park, they will help get rid of rats too and that can prevent an over population of komodo dragons. Thanks Pat for another great video!
Thank you Helen, eventually the lizards and cats will make parts of it home and the dogs won't be able to get in at night, just like Lumpini!
Well everyday's a school day. I always thought 4 was a dead-end.. I've definitely been to the bottom in the past. Was there a church at the bottom 🤔
Church is a the end of Soi 2. Gates to Tobacco Monopoly used to be end of Soi 4.
@@BangkokPat getting confused in my old age. 4 blocked off/ dead end while the park was being done ? . Wasn't the serpent filmed at the bottom on the left? OR was that 2 also ?
Benjakitti Pond had Water Monitors in there before the recent construction work on it (The Pond). There's also quite a few turtles in there.
I preferred the small Benjakitti over Benjasiri at Phrom Phong. it was small but despite the noise of the traffic, it always seemed more tranquil. Didn't get into the new enlarged park Last time I was there...
I was really hoping to see the green mile connection to Lumpini park as I always seem to miss it when running round Lumpini. Does it actually go into the park or do you have to go out onto wireless road?
WAlk along Sarasin Road about 100m and turn left where the cats sit around on the sidewalk.
Cats of course ;)
They'll feel left out...
I would go get a nice cold beer.
Was interesting to see an Indonesian mosque in the neighborhood, might be a story there, regarding that community , have they been in Bangkok for ages like the Indian community?
Some Thai muslim communities in Bangkok originated there.
Nice, much needed green space for Bangkok. How on earth do the Thai exercise in that heat? Aren't the cops kind of useless if you were to report a stalker? I don't know the country as well as you, but they just sounded corrupt, and behaved like they didn't care to do much at all, I hope I'm wrong. Fascinating as always, Pat. Cheers.
Cheers mate, you get used to exercising in this climate, after a while it's like a walk in the park. I won't be saying anything to any cops, but as he was acting like a shifty bastard I felt I wanted to. Anyway, life goes on.
great video , i was in bkk a week ag and went to look at flats etc in makasan , saphan kwai , and rachada as covered in recent videos all very nice too, regarding your ex colleague he does neeed talking to about stalking may be chat to him about his behavior first then go to the cops if he persists
Lumpini park is pretty lively at night 🤣
I'd go home and go swimming 🏊
Cheers, Luckily there is a pool here and not a dirty canal....
Such a well put together video.
I get the impression the people behind Benjakitti Park are dog people, which is unusual as it has “kitti” in its name 😂
Yeah I was hoping the same too, they may as well change the name !! Cheers.
It sounds too much like, bend your kitty 😺 😆
Not enough cats in the forest park at the moment...the park has no character!
at the end of the video you asked "what would you do" ,me- sit back and watch the keystone cops
Wasn't allowed to film them doing their thing for security reasons otherwise I would have. I got some food and headed for the cats.
