Haha… it’s odd. You’re right. But pianists are normally unaware of having harmonics on the strings so I thought it would be useful to show it that way…🙃
my idea since the era of the minidisc is that if i had acoustic piano i would go for thicker strings, one string per note so it would give 1 octave lower, then permanently raise that octave back to normal by placing a horizontal bar with 88 screws with rubber tip so they would touch the middle of the string ( node) hence all the piano will not have the unwanted secondary notes, but it would sound pure. if you played a 4 note chord, it would only actually sound 4 notes. it would sound quieter, lower volume. and probably would need horn as guitar picks or quilk as harpsichords instead of felp. but definetely would be more playable than having to touch the node yourself. the tension would be adjusted by each screw. david klavins unacorda is a good approach to my dream piano. but i would do so many other mods in the dessign. until then i am happy with kontakt so i can get a snipped of my theory in a more reliable and at money cost zero. and of course the dampening would be completely the opposite. the sustain pedal when prwssing down would mute the strings. so the normal position would be all strings free.

If you quietly press down on a note so that the string isn't struck but the dampener is lifted and then staccato the note an octave lower, the note you pressed down will ring for a while even after the note you actually played stops and it's an interesting effect that kinda reminds me of natural harmonics on the guitar or violin.

Question: how do you find the nodes while performing a piece (when you can't take the time to measure the string) ? Is there someway to mark the position?
As a guitarist I would never think to bust out a tape measure to find harmonics. 😆

Yes. It’s a lovely effect. Many composers have used it. Do you know Bartók using it in Mikrokowmos 102 (a piece named “Harmonics”)?

Someone should make a piano which has a mechanism that could activate overtones on the strings.
I have thought of this many times. There have been experiments, I remember the POP Piano Overtones Production System. Look for it in the internet.
