  • Have you ever wondered what the difference is between baking, roasting and convection on an oven or range? Baking cooks foods at a lower temperature, while roasting cooks foods at a higher temperature. Each setting produces their own unique result in the foods that you are preparing. In this video, Chef Anthony of Don's Appliances explains the differences between the three oven settings.

    Thank you so much for this. So if I have an oven and I wanted to roast a chicken and NOT bake( which would have to be 400 degrees or more) , is my oven automatically going to cycle between the broiler and the bake element?

    Hi I am wondering if the convection heat element would change colour during operation?

    • @Donsappliances
      @Donsappliances  Рік тому

      Hello rajan, the convection element will probably change colors when it is heated up! It depends on if it is exposed or not. Most other heating elements will glow red when they've heated up (especially if the coils are visible in your oven).

    So a pork shoulder should be on roast right

  • @brahmaistrash.indiaisatoil5292

    Hi thete. When i click on bake, the top element turns hot and red but not the bottom one. Why is this happening?

    • @Donsappliances
      @Donsappliances  Рік тому

      This sounds like an issue with your bottom element, it might need to be replaced. We'd recommend calling a local appliance technician; or if your oven is still in warranty you can contact the manufacturer and they should be able to send a technician in your area.

    Hi, when would we use convection roast instead of regular roast? Thanks

    • @Donsappliances
      @Donsappliances  2 роки тому +1

      We always recommend using the convection setting like convect bake, roast, broil over regular bake, roast or broil.

    Do all convection ovens have a fan? If the oven does not have a fan can it be called a conventional oven?

    • @Donsappliances
      @Donsappliances  2 роки тому

      Yes, convection ovens do all have fans. Conventional ovens are different from convection.

    Is roasting the same as broiling ?

    • @stockdetective4396
      @stockdetective4396 Рік тому

      It’s half baking half broiling, baking from the bottom and roasting front the top , if it’s convection then air circles around as well

    My convection oven only goes to 325. Why is that?

    • @Donsappliances
      @Donsappliances  Рік тому

      What is the model number for your oven? This could be an issue with one of the heating elements.

    please, please, please, look up "convection" in your dictionary or basic science book. It is NOT a fan, forced air thing!!!! "convection" is what happens in an ordinary (NO FAN) oven. The hotter air rises, and the cooler air falls, thus creating a slow circulation of the air in the oven. The fan destroys convection by forcing a fast air circulation that speeds up heat transfer by forcing the hot air to mix and move around much, much faster than by NO FAN convection . 99.9% of people discussing this on UA-cam are getting it completely backwards and upside down!!!......ignorance is correctible with information, stupidity is not...
