Finally, a video on how to wire a lamp, not only for UK viewers but also with all the information we actually need! No other video I have found has been as helpful as this one and has given all the essential information such as ‘it does not matter which wire, i.e neutral or live, you connect to which terminal’ (as long as the earth goes in the right place, of course!). These types of details are so important to beginners. Thanks so much! 👍🏻
Thanks thats helpful. The one i,m working on looks exactly the same except there is an extra screw at the bottom of the inside of the l cap where the cable comes in which im not sure what is for, do you know what this might be?
Great video. One question: if wiring a 3 wire cable (including earth) to a plastic bayonet that does not have an earthing connector, what do you do with the earth wire?
@@jeffvezich8936 So do you have the ceiling mounted part? If you don't use that you will need an electrician to connect using a regular ceiling rose, cutting the ceiling plug thing off. Use a ceiling rose like one of these. edisonlightglobes.com/Shop/ceiling-roses/
@@EdisonLightGlobes hi yes i have bayonet ceiling mounted part and this b22 lamp holder suspension kit you push up and turns and the wire hangs down then the light shade and then the light fit in
Great video! I’ve got 4 x bayonet b22 globes I want to use but my new house has down lights. Could I order 4 x 240v bayonet pendants from you? I live in QLD.
Yes you can! We will ship from Melbourne via online order. Below is one that is antique brass edisonlightglobes.com/Shop/shop/fittings/bare-bulb-pendant/vintage-style-b22-antique-brass-pendant/
@@EdisonLightGlobes sorry, should've explained better: your video was very helpful and I succeeded in rewiring a lamp safely because of your advice BUT I was so slow that you had completely finished while I was still doing the first bit - removing the plastic casing from the ends of live and neutral
@@TomTomIAm There is no reason why that is not do-able. In certain countries you may need a special plug top to plug into since it would be a pendant light specification. Generally this is a plug top with no switch with a switch wired to a convenient location on a wall.

Thanks for that, we do our best to assist.
Super helpful mate!... And so awesome to hear an Aussie voice on youtube👍
Excellent video thank you especially explaining about the polarity agnostic barbs, it was really helpful
So helpful! Thank you so so much! It’s taken me over a year to attempt fixing mums lamp, wished I’d UA-camd you sooner haha!
You're so welcome! Glad it was of assistance.

That sounds like the earth
Yep. I had the same thing. It's fir the earth if your wire/plug supports it. Agnostic polarity. I like that phrase...
Thanks mate

Cut the earth cable back half an inch and don't connect to earth at the mains.
@@EdisonLightGlobes thank you. I wish I saw your brass lamp fittings before I bought the cheap plastic one to make my steampunk lamp.
@@patrickanwandter6079 So depending on the design it may be that an earth is required however.
@@EdisonLightGlobes thanks. The bayonet definitely does not have an earthing contact
i have a new supension kit from bunnings but it is to long can i cut the wire to make it shorter.
It depends what is at the ceiling end. If there is a plug in thing then you would need to eliminate that and use a separate ceiling rose.
@@EdisonLightGlobes thank you getting back it is a Deta B22 Lamp Holder Suspension Kit if that helps

What length of insulation are you stripping off the end?
Around 10mm
I'm still stripping the two wire ends and video finished!
I am not sure what you mean.

Can this be connected to 240v socket ?
It is a 240 Volt lamp holder. Not sure what you mean by "socket". Do you mean a wall plug?
@@EdisonLightGlobes yes to wall plug. Regards Tom

@@TomTomIAm OK so it will depend on exactly what you are doing, it may be you need an electrician involved
