Thank you for this tutorial. I found a ship lantern in a junk shop and have restored it. I have just ordered some antique bronze E27 fittings to make it a lamp and used your tutorial to make sure I have everything I need. I will be referring to it again to make sure I put it all together correctly.
This is superbly helpful - thank you. Used this video to sort out why one we had didn't work. It was wired up by the shop where we bought it and I couldn't unscrew it to find out what was wrong. Now I understand why! Once I got inside, it turned out it was wired up incorrectly (blue to the central contact) plus they hadn't properly stripped the blue wire enough to make electrical contact. Sorted now.
Thank you so much guys. I just asked a supplier to send me a replacement because I thought my lampholder was broken because I couldn't unscrew it. Turns out all I needed to do was ease off the rachet pin. Now I have two lampholders!! I will have to fess up to my suplier. We obviously are backward in England 😂
Thanks for that, SO AS LONG as the brass lamp secure is through the wire before i pass it through the lamp a d get the earth right as it is fused, Now Worries moite. Thanks Jannie Blew!

Hi Edison. I've just bought and connected up an ORIOL E27 Lampholder - model no ORIOL A01/528. Its actually the wrong size - its too long and I need to disconnect and replace it, but I can't seem to unscrew/disconnect it. Can you explain how to unscrew/disconnect it?
All ES lamp holders will have an anti rotation device that stops them from being unscrewed accidentally. Look closely inside the threaded end to see if you can find that ratchet. You will need to hold that back whilst unscrewing the base.

Ha, that is a common issue even with experienced electricians.

Is there a type of holder that has right angle bracket to mount it to another nearby surface? I am looking to retrofit existing outside enclosure.
