One thing I noticed, the ammo tokens are magazines. Each is worth the number of the dice on the card. So you have 4 dice (i.e. 4 bullets) in the handgun before you need to reload using the ammo (i.e. the magazine), which costs you time. If played with ammo = 1 die, it would be incredibly hard and imbalanced.
Hey Tom, Thank you for opening up to solo games more than in the past. That is both appreciated, and not obvious... I’m not a solo player, but sometimes- when there aren’t any partners around and the desire to play is burning - A solo game is a legit option.. So... your solo overviews/reviews are cool as well. Thanks.
You should check out the red Hunted game. It's more or less the same with some slightly different rules, but it's based on Alien and uses a dexterity mechanic instead of dice. I felt that one was a better experience and feels like you're in more control.
Yes, but you'd be surprised. The biggest critique of Mining Colony 215 was that once you master the dexterity element, the win percentage shoots up to 80% in some cases. For me, I love that skill translates into such a high win rate, but for others, that's too much winning and not enough challenge lol. For the others, I'd recommend the more punishing Hunted: Kobayashi Tower and Hunted: North Pole since everything falls on dice. I think both KT and MC215 addresses boardgamers on both sides of the win ratio divide. I've met people who won't replay any game they've won once before and also people who prefer their games with a punishing 10% win rate. I'm definitely not of that breed. I'm okay with such a low win percentage when I'm still learning a game, but once I attain mastery, I would like for my win rate to be at least 50%. Would love to know everyone's thoughts on what an acceptable win percentage is!
I own both this one and the orange Mining Colony (which i haven't played yet) and I liked it very much; it made me also back the third installment on KS. Sure there's plenty of randomness but sometimes I just want exactly that. That's also why I'm glad to have a copy of Dungeonquest 😅
There are actually a lot of people like you! I'm a little different in that I want skill to mean more than luck in almost all cases, but people like you are what make boardgaming spaces so diverse and interesting!
When it comes to small, purely-solo games, I have Unbroken and Iron Helm. Looking to get Desolate, Tin Helm, Gate and Doom Machine. These Hunted Games have been pushed down the list, thanks to the review.
I hear Desolate, Tin Helm, Iron Helm, and DustRunner are all very similar (both uses the two-door mechanism), but for sure Doom Machine, Gate, and Unbroken sound interesting.
This reminds me of this movie about this die hard cop who did something similar and despite the unsurmountable odds against this die hard, it was hard for him to die since he was such a die hard. It think it was called "The Cop Who Was Not Easy to Kill"
Yeah but in Die Hard he didn’t know what was behind every door or in this case card, that was push your luck. So Thematically it works in this game. I have this game and love it. And yes I have yet to beat it. But I do love trying. The Push your luck aspect…. I mean when do we gripe about a mechanic? Like say “Take that” or “push your luck” just because it makes the game a little bit more difficult and you don’t like it that way?!? With Some games that’s just what they’re about. And without those mechanisms you can’t tell That story. Trials and tribulations that’s the name of these type of games.
I'm sorry I wasn't clearer. I LOVE push your luck. My problem is that there's no real way to know what's coming next, and I'm getting tired of losing due to strings of bad luck, and nothing to do with my decisions.
@@thedicetower I get what you’re saying, Tom. What it falls down to is what do certain gamers expect from certain games. For me a game that emulates the movie Die Hard should be hard on a Robinson Crusoe or This War Of Mine level. The game does provide you with equipment along the way and when you decide to use it it’s up to you as far as strategy goes. But at the end of the day it’s a one deck dungeon after all. And the color blue is all they have to offer for snacks. So I’ll totally agree to disagree. We expect different things from a game like this. Are you a fan of the movie? How devoted to an IP does a gamer have to be to excuse some of the game’s flaws? I wonder that for myself too.

Should have called the game “Dice Hard” 😅
I know solo games aren't you thing, but I really appreciate you making us solo gamers feel valued and appreciated!

As a solo gamer I enjoy these solo reviews by Tom, I would be very interested to see what he feels about about Black Sonata or Marquis
SAME! Black Sonata and Marquis are both on my list.

Juan McSpain 😂
I also own the game and enjoy it..though I’ve yet to beat it!

This campaign is just finishing up on game found, the price is very nice!.
Yes, this is the reprint!!! Gabe Barrett changed the game a bit to introduce more player agency.

Ha! Classic Simpsons Reference...
@6:36 anyone else kinda wish Tom broke out in song: “ I’m blue daba di dabo di, dabo di dabo di…” 😂😂
Reminds me of Unbroken.
I was thinking the same. But Unbroken seem less random with more choices and strategies.
@@SyranurYou think so? I wish the price for Unbroken is so darn high lol. Anyone here have both Hunted and Unbroken and can speak to them both?
Anyway I agree with Tom this time 😁

I want a game from the perspective of the "evil" Boss.

This review in a nutshell : "I don't like blue". Terrible.. this guy should retire.
Sorry, don't plan on retiring yet. And do you really think that was the sum total of my review, that I don't like blue?
