After 20+ years of playing this game you literally just taught me Knuckles has an "Air necklace" and now I know why Cannon's Core with Knuckles has always been so insanely difficult for me lol.
"Eggman is obviously not a superpowered induvidual" This is the same man that has outrun Sonic. SEVERAL TIMES. (also Eggman running in the chao gardens coincidentinally happens to be one of my favourite things from SA2)
SA2 showed me two years ago that there used to be a time when sonic games had a somewhat consistent quality that is rarely seen in the decades that followed. I just was perfectly content with the game the whole way through and found the addition of multiple gameplay styles actually refreshing and to its benefit. It just was a fun game.
4:14 shadow was actually added as a playable character very late into development. Only sonic, knuckles, and Eggman we’re gonna be playable but they eventually added the others.
“Extinction level event, dinosaur are probably laughing at us beyond the garage.” “Speaking of Dinosaur, one of them chaos controls in to laugh at us.” God tier transition.
Very glad to see someone reviewing/recapping the game with the Miles mod and the treasure hunting radar mod. Honestly, they addressed two of my biggest issues with the game (especially since Tails is my favorite character in the series and i just wanted to play as him outside the mech).
I'm not someone that likes going back and replaying games I've beaten except for a few rare exceptions but SA2 is one of those few games from my childhood that I find myself replaying every few years. I was fortunate enough to play the game on the Dreamcast when it first came out despite only being only being 8-9 back then. I even remember loving the ost so much I would record my tv speakers to cassette and play it until eventually picking up the CD soundtrack for the game at gamestop back then. I just recently beat it again on the Steam Deck and I still love the game. Definitely my favorite 3D Sonic game. Great video by the way! You have some great ideas for mods.
You should’ve noted the extra banter that Sonic and Shadow have in the final battle when you wait the time out in the fight. One of Shadow’s lines is him calling Sonic the true ultimate life form.
Sa2 was the game to convert me to the church of adventure gameplay/momentum i.e. the better gameplay style, and I enjoyed every bit of the game except artificial chaos. I didn't mess with the chao garden much but it's something I should put more time into.
Sa2 was the game i despise because of the toxic side of the fanbase. I just want to like unleashed and generations but people keep bashing on me saying i shouldnt like those because adventure is just better.
I just like every sonic game, In fact I prefer unleashed over generations but I totally understand what your saying, enjoy the games you like and just ignore people that say your wrong for liking it
Everything being mapped to one button is the only issue for me. The reason adventure is a better gameplay style in my opinion is that it's more rewarding to manipulate momentum to get places whereas a game like unleashed, you are rewarded speed if you have good reaction time and good understanding of the controls.
SA2 Battle was my first ever Sonic game where I first played it via a friend's copy & is my most nostalgic game. Still love it to death. As for Chao Garden stories since that was the explicitly asked question, OH BOY! So me & my brother were really big into the Pendragon book series when we first got the game ourselves so we had named every Chao after the various characters with the first one obviously being named after the protagonist. UNFORTUNATELY... the memory card either corrupted or was lost (I forget which) meaning ALL OF OUR HARD WORK WAS DOWN THE FUCKING DRAIN! And then the 2nd memory card had the other thing happen (hence why I forget. It's so long ago I forget the order) making lose our precious progress (I forget the theme we did on 2nd run) AGAIN... yeah we were not lucky with our Chao progress.
I used to sell pimped out Chao when I was a kid. I was the only one who new about the small animal glitch and how breeding worked. This one kid must have given me like $50 before it was all said and done. They'd let me take their memory card home and I'd put their Chao on it and give the card back at school
I genuinely have never understood what people hate so much about treasure hunting and mech stages. I love racking up combos and getting insanely high scores with tails and eggman, and hunting for emeralds as knuckles and rouge. Maybe it's just because I have all the levels memorized like the back of my hand because I've been playing it once a year since I was 5, but going for A ranks and high scores on those is really fun.
It becomes pretty doable after you start knowing the levels better. The hint monitors are actually pretty creative and I do like them better than straight up showing you where the emerald is (I could finish SA1 treasure hunts under a minute because of how easy they were)
I remember pirating this game on my 2009 notebook and it ran at like 10 fps. I finished the 1st stage, got to the second couldn't finish it and the 3 years later I buy the game on steam, same thing happens. so yeah, I played Sonic Adventure 2
I understand why it was just sonic and Shadow in the final fight but shadow could have lived if knuckles just spoke up and maybe tried to push ark up when sonic and Shadow do the chaos control
heyyoo im replaying SA2 off steam, also one of if not my most favorite game of all time- lol XD nice to hear someone sharing the same thoughts about it, in any case i have a silly question maybe you or someone on here could help me out with. Im playing with mods off steam, and i cant seem to figure out how to remove objects from the choa garden once theyre there. specifically the egg shells. any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Can you continue the sonic generations rewrite? It’s been 2 years and we’ve heard nothing,if u have writers block that’s fine, but there should be at least be a statement so we know if the rewrite has been cancelled or not
The only thing I hate about this game is the animation, like bro did you really have to use a human to rig a heavily cartonized character in a game with very good lore?
@@JulianR2JG they have been with humans but that won't change the appeal of their animations, they are cartoons, small body, big arms, huge head, it's still unnatural and threw me off, the idle animation is basicly 1 or 2 poses tweened (I have no problem with tweening in animation) but that gives them no life, cartoons should be exaggerated not awkwardly move their arm while their hands are just clipping through the face, although I get why this happens. The gaming market all had a rough transition through 3D I don't mind the graphics, they were out of the developers controls, the animation a little less excusable but doesn't mean that it was bad, the look was great but animations awkward
@@JulianR2JG also I mainly forgot to tell I was talking about the cutscenes, sonics running animation is perfect, bouncy and slow at first then the walk gets turned into a jog with a little less bounce and more of a smooth run, soon becoming a sprint with no jump making running smooth, and talking about idol animation, I found that tails tail was nicely animated, idk if that's a good thing because 2 poses being the animation kinda canceled it out. I perfectly understand them though, 3d animation in games was very new to game devs and they couldn't quite perfect it
I think sonic adventure 1 is WAY TOO slow, with the hub world and all the slow and boring gimmicks in Sonic’s story such as the pinball/sewer, tornado stages, icecap zone, the gokart, and the temple stage. And that’s just Sonic’s story which people praise as being the best part of the game
the flexibility and adjustments are very awfully bad. A player would fail transitioning through the whole game in sa2b. I failed too many times to get an A without game shark codes. Very nearly broken controls when going through stages.
Regarding Eggman's announcement... I like how we get all up in arms over rectons in the series, but the majority of the fan-base has agreed that the SnapCube dubs are the true canon.
I heavily disagree, SA2 is a quality game but it’s far from the greatest sonic experience of all time. The gameplay mainly kills this game imo, especially the treasure hunting and mech stages. The treasure hunting levels can be just stupidly huge and confusing not to mention the hints suck and are barely helpful. The mech stages for most of the game are just mindless shooting and platforming but the final stages suddenly crank up the difficulty and constantly cheap shot the player. The ranking system as well is very flawed. It’s so inconsistent, in some stages I can barely collect any rings but get a B or A for completing the stage quick enough where as in others my rank tanks because of rings or score, it’s so frustrating trying to get an A rank. This game is honestly on the least fun experiences I’ve had with a game period. But to each their own.
I just played through the whole game today. The only stages I could consistently A-rank was the hunting stages. I don't know what you guys are on about.
The ranking system varies by character type. Speed stages, get through it fast & stylishly (so say getting all the ramp tricks in City Escape or finding the alternate route when going up the rocket in Metal Harbor). Mech stages, kill EVERYTHING efficiently meaning all the lock-on combos for that sweet sweet combo bonus. Treasure Hunt stages, get the key items fast & without using hints. The faster you do it with less hints, the higher your bonus for each item. Basically, each level type has it's own bonus point rewards. Or you can just collect & keep EVERY ring in a level but that's basically impossible on some levels thanks to split paths.
The fuck? The hints are the first thing you must check out. That's the reason most players end up getting lost in the hunting stages. They're actually pretty useful, and there's 3 types, from less to more obvious as you collect the emerald pieces. Why would you ignore them lol
Oh cool, we get to agree to disagree again, F*** THIS GAME. Edit: Okay, let me be more clear. The amount of rails above death falls is too much, Rouge's 5 minute stage is too short for a randomized Emerald stage, the 2nd to last Sonic stage requires a LEAP OF FAITH to finish(at least in my case), the last Eggman vs Tails fight is a difficulty spike, it feels less like an adventure due to no hub world to roam around in, and...actually that's about it.
All of these made quit the game so many times it angered me so much I had to stop playing for about 3-5 months. I seriously don’t see what fans of this game see in this game. To me it’s just another flawed product of sega’s poor development time window.
@Mister MashupsYT So given how much Sonic fans love the Hell out of SA2, you mean to say that Sonic fans love shitty games? .....actually, given some even defend the likes of Lost World, 06, etc., that makes a lot of sense.
@Mister MashupsYT You expect me to sit here and say I don't like SA2 and NOT have played it? Can you even make some kind of valid explanation as to how and why near the end of Crazy Gadget you literally need to make a leap of faith with no landing area you can see in order to finish the level? Or how about Rouge's 5 minute level? Yeah, make a level with randomized locations of your objective ON TOP of at least one of them being hidden behind a locked color door AND MAKE THE PLAYER TRY TO BEAT IT IN FIVE MINUTES. Ntm that landing on the rails requires picture perfect precision, leading to a lot of deaths in the last Sonic/Shadow level aka Rails and Bottomless Pits.
I've never had any problem with death falls beneath rails nor i have seen "leap of faiths" of any kind. And also hub worlds suck. Unleashed was the only game with a good hub world in the series.
Gotta disagree. Level design is so much more boring and super hallway runner like aside from treasure hunt and mech stages. Also gameplay is only fun in speed stages when you are trying to break the level design with loopspeed and mach bounces. Speedrunning is the only way to make SA2 fun thanks to its really broken physics. SA1 is super fun thanks to how goated the speed stages were and sonic is so broken and fun to control. To me Unleashed is the best sonic experience currently. I think Frontiers will overthrow unleashed for me at least cause Frontiers looks so fun and good.
I agree there, Unleashed was the last high-budget Sonic game, it can be seen how much effort was put in it and also it probably is the last Sonic game with its own identity. I really hope Frontiers can surpass Unleashed though I'm not really sure it will be able to
I’ve never liked it, it was in terms of team size and budget far smaller than Adventure 1 with less “Speed” stages. Genuinely have never enjoyed it but I try to almost once a year.
Me : sees the title Also me : unsubscribes I'm kidding but in my opinion sa2 sucks and it can't even be on my top 10000000 list , and I will hate this game til the day I die
