Good video, the proper way to fit this.. but I managed this much quicker with just a screw, hammer and a rag. No trim removed. Screw into the broken end of the cylindrical piece, then using a rag to protect your trim from the back of the hammer, gently ease the cylinder out using the claw of the hammer on the screw. 👍

I took my car to get this latch replace estimate and it was 300.00!!!!! I ordered the original part and I just installed it following the screw and hammer technique. Took less the 5 mins. No trim was removed!! Thanks guys for all your input!
I was quoted £244 yesterday by the main dealer. I have never done more than fill the washer fluid before today....got a lever on ebay and I fitted it today. £12. Thank you!!! (The spindle broke too close to the handle to pull out with pliers. The big bit was still in.)
Great video, thanks. My car's bonnet handle just did this but I was able to grab the end of the broken spindle with a pair of pliers and pull it straight out without removing any of the trim panels. If you have the same issue, I would suggest trying this before removing the trim panels as it's obviously much easier.
Thanks for this, it was most useful. And boy those clips are annoying! As a warning to anyone else trying this repair, I must have a slightly earlier/later model TT Mk2 as the replacement handle wouldn't 'just clip in'. I FINALLY realising the original spindle was slightly shorter with a pointed end and had one different sized 'tab' on the collar (and I wasn't going mad). So I had to use a Dremel to shorten the end and scalpel on the the larger tab to make it fit. If your replacement doesn't fit, don't freak out you may just have to modify it. Genuine Audi part, same part number. Go figure.
I watched your video and came up with an easier solution I just screwed a screw into the broken piece centre and with a pair of pliers I removed it without removing the trim... a simple 30sec repair... cheers
No need to take ANY trim off at all. Use needle nose pliers to remove snapped shaft from the latch hole inwards to the footwell. Push new spindle in. Job done! Less than 1 minute!
I have just bought one of these and it has this problem. My issue is the male part of the handle that is left in the mechanism after snapping will not come out! I've tried prying it, screwing a self tapper in and pulling it, everything and it will not come out! So new handle and mechanism ordered
All of You forgot one thing. There is also small metal clip zimmering on the the end of the handle. You need to mount this zimmering. Same handle is on audi a5 2020 and there is metal zimmering at the end.
Possibly... although it does work fine now. I think it had been pulled to hard/far in the past causing it to break. It is a poor design - should be metal really.
Absolute crap design from Audi, you can screw a small screw into end then slide broken cog out to save taking trim off, I’ve done it twice. You can get a metal one for approx £45, cheap in the long run.

Drill small hole in end and put a screw in and pull out next time if can’t get out with pliers as bad design and will happen again.

Is it enough to replace the plastic thing or should the metal pull line also get some maintenance? As the plastic lever broke for some reason?
