Excellent concert with devotion and dedication as well as perfection and proficiency deserving admiration by Carnatic music lovers all over
Though the high point of the concert is the outstanding, leisurely exposition of Bhairavi, I must begin by expressing my admiration for youngsters like Vignesh Easwar and his tribe. All of them of the Now generation are well educated, smart and worldly-wise. They could have chosen professions for which they had qualified and succeeded professionally and financially. But, they have chosen to immerse themselves in Carnatic music for the love of this art form. In spite of the financial risks this route may involve. Surely they will reach great heights.
00:00 Sadinchane -Arabhi- Adhi- Saint Thyagaraja. Vignesh has a unique style of getting off to a brisk start in a manner which grips listeners attention from the word go. After a few bars of alapana, launches this soulful pancharatna.
11:28 Mamavasada - Kanada - Rupaka - Swati Thirunal. A krithi on which immortal Semmangudi has left his stamp. The sarvalaghu swaraprastharam from lower octave all the way up in one swoop is sure keep one glued.
36:40 Ninnuvina - Purvi Kalyani - Shyama Sastri- Chapu. First heard a rendition of this krithi by Brinda and Muktha some decades ago and had stayed with me since then. For some reason, every time I hear, my blues get blown away. Sit back, close your eyes and hear Vignesh sing a moving neraval. Guaranteed to blow the blues away.
1:04:00 Chetashri - Dwijavanti- Dikshitar Slow tempo, true to his school’s style, rendered with azhuttham.
1:19:00 Nenarunchinanu- Malavi- Adhi- Saint Thyagaraja Yes, Vignesh can also sing at cracking pace!
1:26:00 RTP in Bhairavi - Leisurely and demands listeners’ undivided attention. Percussion joins mid-way through the tanam. Ragamalika starts with just a thattu or two of previous ragam and smoothly travels to the next. Then the thani. Rendered over a good hour.

2:38:19 Thillana- Suruti. Joyously rendered and soothing after all the intensity.

The accompanists are Vidwans we must get to hear more often. Absolutely a wholesome concert thanks to their vidwat.
A concert filled with heavyweight song list. Only 8 songs in a concert lasting 2 hours 42 minutes. Faithful to his guru’s paddhathi. Though the guru himself seems to have other priorities now. (No, no, sorry. Cut out this sentence.)
