The accordian has always been and always will be the poor man's Orchestra. It's the music of the working class. Be it in Spanish, German or Polish the accordian hits every one's heart. Music is the voice of a person's soul.
As a native New Mexican growing up in the 1940s and 1950s I remember dances that played traditional Violin and Guitar music from Spain, but later trumpets and drums were added and adopted by New Mexico artists like Al Hurricane, etc. The accordion was added when "Tejanos" (native Texans/Mexicans) from Texas migrated to the U.S. and brought the accordion which they integrated in our native New Mexican music.

Se me hace que el señor que toca el Sax, es el maestro Don Jose Gonzalez Perez de los Gorriones del Topo Chico quien inicio tocando el acordeon desde muy chico alla por los años 20's y despues fue unos de los primeros en meterle saz a la musica norteña, y creo que esa cantina que no es la que estaba en la calle Teran, aqui en el Topo Chico en frente d elo que era el Rincon Norteño.

I think the time this music became played in Mexico lines up perfectly with the mennonites and Texas German folk. I think it’s ignorant almost to not recognize these events influencing one another
