I bought the 1100 and I am ABSOLUTELY happy. Lots of power, fast, snappy but manageable. I wanted to buy the 500 but knew I would run out of power quickly so I spent more on the 100. Great move. It is worth adding that after a small operation on the motorcycle's computer, you have not 86 horses, but 92. A beast.
2023 500 ABS SE is my first bike, just picked it up about a year ago and we’re at 8k+ miles. Safe to say that as a beginner rider the bike has humbled me a few times (within reason) riding the twisties with my group that are on sport bikes. Overall 10/10 starter bike, I absolutely love this machine and recommend it for folks looking for a modern-vintage cruiser

I recently purchased a 2024 Rebel 500 SE and put in so far 1,000 miles. I love this bike so much. It's the best of both world. Really nice bike for city riding and I am able to keep up in highway 75 - 80 mph with no problem
I bought the Rebel 500 as my first bike in April and outgrew it in 2 months. I'm now on a GSX 8R (800 cc). It's perfect for me! However, I think it was good that I started on the 500!
Wife got the 300 from Glen a year ago. Gave her the confidence as a rider starting at 50. Just last week she got a Triumph Bonneville. Only thing I can say is she was so used to the ultra light weight that the Bonnie surprised her a little. Doing great though.
If you can afford it, absolutely get the 1100. As a beginner, I started in rain mode for a bit, went to standard, then sport mode. I felt this approach allowed me to develop my skills and grow into the bike without it scaring the daylights out of me. The 1100 is a forever bike - I can only see myself getting rid of it to get a new one
So I was going to purchase a Rebel 500 as my first motorcycle and my friends talked me into an 1100 as I would outgrow the 500. I purchased the 1100 and am glad I did for the power and the sound of the 270° engine especially with the V&H exhaust that I got.
My first 'Street legal/Daily Commuter' was the Rebel 250. It was/is a *GREAT* 'Beginners' bike,' and so *VERY* forgiving (Weight/balance)! I've never agreed that 1100 plus cc motorcycles can't be just fine beginner bikes for adults. I actually think a new adult rider would outgrow the 500 just as quickly. Personally I started out on a 1200 cc Triumph Speedmaster and loved it. I do wholeheartedly agree with putting a teenager on a small displacement bike though lol, they make too many impulsive decisions
The sales guy told me not to bother with the 300 I would return for the 500. I got the 500, and as a new rider, it was great in the beginning 6 months. I use my bike for whatever I need it for and have added a home built rack that holds my ice chest/backrest. Mega enjoyment at minimal cost
I used a Rebel 250 8 years ago for my starter bike then traded it for a Harley a month later. There are times I wished I kept that thing. I may pick up a Rebel 500 to putput around and use as a learner bike for my friends who want to ride.

i rode a Honda CM 250 in the late 1980's, because it was a parallel twin motor, it sounded a hell a lot better than the Rebel 300. I am not against singles, big thumper 650 singles do sound good.
1100 is nice, but at the cost (here in Canada, anyways) there are other bikes that may be more 'capable'. Also, especially for new riders, insurance cost difference from 500 to 1100 can be significant. The 300, however, is so underpowered and don't recommend to anyone unless you're looking for cheap in-city commuting. I own the 2022 500 and it is perfect. For those looking at sub-2020 models, I would spend more on anything 2020 and beyond, as lights are all LED and clutch is nicer on these models than on the 2019s. 2020+ also includes a gear indicator.
If I was a cruiser person I would go with the 300 especially since most of my riding is the daily commute through jammed up roads, thanks for the info by the way I didn't know that the Rebel has been here since the 80s also whose "panties" are you wearing??? My dream honda is the CB 300 R.
First! Love your content and was looking at the 300 vs 500 as the next beginner bike…. Does the light weight make the 300 more nimble and does the thumper torque offset the power difference or if the twin on the 500 more beginner friendly since the power is up high and gentle at start?
Hi great review comparisons! I have the Rebel 1100 and the same Memphis Shades faring and would like to know what mirrors are those? It would be a great help to know. With that particular faring I’m finding the stock Mickey Mouse mirrors just don’t work. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Happy riding!
I just HAD to have the new Rebel 300 for my 40th bike {and eighth single} in '22. Loved the look of it and, with my history of thumpers from 250cc to 650cc, I thought I had a good idea of what to expect. This was important, as there was nothing to test ride and they were very scarce and virtually sold months in advance. So, after one year and 5000 miles, couldn't wait to get rid of it. An utterly useless motorcycle, a thumper COMPLETELY devoid of thump. Seriously. You don't buy a single to wind it up like a sewing machine. Even my XL250 Honda and my GN 400 Suzuki had SOME bottom end, but this thing? Zero. The seat is useless after twenty minutes. A $250 upgrade with more foam and gel pad extended that to an hour, but Honda should've put a decent seat on it for five grand. Seventy miles per gallon is fantastic, IF you like spending all afternoon rowing your way through the gearbox. Run, don't walk from that little Rebel.
they didnt have the 1100 when i bought the 500, but if they had i would have gone with the 1100...even for beginners i would recommend the 1100 its not any larger and you could keep it instead of having to trade up because of lack of power
Can I ask what settings you use on your action 4 camera? You have a review but unsure if you mention the settings, I had a hero 8 but footage keep being blown out 😢
I would advise first-time bike riders getting started on 300cc motorcycles. My first bike was a 1976 Suzuki GT 250. I wasn't yet in my '20's, and that bike was more than enough for me. It pisses me off to see first-time riders buying and riding 1000 to 1100cc "sport bikes". And on UA-cam, one can see so many of them dropping their powerful machines and accumulating gravel rash. We need more, ahem, 'influencers' dropping the hint. Because sure as shit stinks, the sales staff won't.
I know the 500 would be a better bike for me because of my chubby weight. I think the 300 will struggle for power (for me). But my gut and rising anxiety as a beginner rider that hasn't ridden a bike yet really wants the 300, as it's a 'non-negotiable' hahaha.. Whatever, I'll cross that bridge when I'm there, and just trade it in or something.
Hate the name ‘Rebel’ it’s ridiculous, I refer to mine as a CMX1100. Love the DCT, cruise control, light weight, and POWER. Stock the ergonomics were awful but 4” bar risers, a taller seat, and forward foot peg extenders drastically improved the rider triangle for me.
A rebel 300 does 0-60 in 7.85 seconds. My BMW G310GS will do it in 6.2 seconds. I’m SHOCKED at how slow the Japanese cruisers of all brands are for their 300cc options. A KTM Duke 200 is exactly as fast as this Honda 300 at 100cc less. Why do they make cruisers slow? I’m closer to a Ninja 300 (5.6 average to my 6.2 compared to 6.2 vs 7.85) than I am to this Rebel 300?!?!? Thats Street vs Adventure vs Cruiser and the cruiser honestly slow.
Quick answer is none, there ar better bikes available for the price. I have had both 500 and 1100 and both are horribly uncomfortable bikes with ergonomics. If tht doesnt bother you then get one. Specially 1100 is a very uncomfortable bike. I just repalc3d it with a triumph 1200 scrambler, just cudnt take it anymore

Get the CL500!
Is it wrong to be a first time rider and still want that 1100?! 😝
In America Rebel1100DCT would be the Best
I know the 500 would be a better bike for me because of my chubby weight. I think the 300 will struggle for power (for me). But my gut and rising anxiety as a beginner rider that hasn't ridden a bike yet really wants the 300, as it's a 'non-negotiable' hahaha.. Whatever, I'll cross that bridge when I'm there, and just trade it in or something.
I’d take the 500 if it had a dct
@chaseontwowheels I’m sold on the 1100 T manual
The two bigger bikes are not equipped with stock seats!
It's this or the grom or z500 for first only do city riding no highway and 50 mph and lower for speed
En France, pas la 300cc.c'est dommage.
Now they need to just make these with the e clutch.
Ride a moped
Is anyone really cross shopping a 300 a 500 and an 1100. Be the first I've ever heard of it .
Turn the 500 into a 650 and this question is dead in the water.
The 300 is too small for anything and the 1100 is too expensive for what you get.
«Which Honda Rebel should you Buy?»
-The one with e-Clutch! 😅 I hope they'll put the e-Clutch on the 500cc engines too.😉
Hate the name ‘Rebel’ it’s ridiculous, I refer to mine as a CMX1100. Love the DCT, cruise control, light weight, and POWER. Stock the ergonomics were awful but 4” bar risers, a taller seat, and forward foot peg extenders drastically improved the rider triangle for me.
That’s crazy
OC: I'd pick the 450clc bobber by cfmoto 😅 iykyk
OC
Oc: hobbit approved
rebel is so “modern” and “nice looking” that it made cfmoto 450clc be out of stock everywhere
Now compare the sales numbers. Out of stock doesn’t mean they’re selling better, they could just be making less
Got to the most uglyist bikes ever made ,why is the tank at 45 %
I'll pass. They all look hideous. The 250 may have been underpowered, but at least it looked good. Fortunately, the Honda Shadow Aero is still around.
I love the look
Neither. They're ugly, fake HDs.
