I went to this place when I was young kid with our school and it has stuck with me I've never forgotten it. I'm going to have to go back.

Cool, hope you can get back soon (though I'd recommend NOT in winter!)

@@hoosiertours Trust me it's a dream to go back to that place. What I remember the most is the big wheel in the back where I guess the animals would work. It was early 90s when I was there. I'm 34 now.

Outstanding travelogue! I have not been back to New Salem since visiting as a schoolchild in 1971. It was a very beloved place of my memories, esp. the blacksmith shop and was so nice to see your professional video with lovely soundtrack and great steady camera work. Thank you for preserving images for other Lincoln Scholars who cannot journey to downstate Illinois to see in person. I am hoping to revisit.

Didn't mention the office of my 3rd Great Uncle, Dr. Francis Regnier who was the town Doctor in New Salem at the same time Lincoln was there. I have not yet had the opportunity to tour the village yet, but it appears that according to maps of the village his office building is directly across the street from the original Lincoln Berry Store. I hope to be able to visit the village sometime in the near future.

Interesting, I don't recall seeing that. Otherwise, I probably would have shown it in the video. That is really cool and hope you visit sometime soon (I would recommend during summer months!)

Great video. I grew up in Springfield, IL and have been here many times as a child. I live in Missouri now, but plan to return in the not so distant future.
By the way, what is the name of the second song in this video (the piano piece)?

Hope you can make it back soon (though I would recommend in the summer!) I believe the first piano song is a rendition of Ashokan Farewell (a more recent piece made synonymous with Lincoln and the Civil War by Ken Burns' Civil War.) Thanks for watching!
