Just got my first airbrush after 25 years of being mad about them. (Had a hand pump cheap dual action trigger gun) Spent a couple days messing with it, with an understanding of how to use a spray gun. Nice to see these videos backing what I was 'figuring' out by trial and error! Thanks for the videos, subscribing, and if I stick with it, I'll definitely take your course!

Hey Carsten - Like I said before, you are an awesome video instructor. Keep up the great work and content. I highly recommend this channel to anyone who airbrushes no matter what skill level. My mantra is never stop learning... for those who don’t watch regularly, or are beginning are brushing, Carsten doesn’t use the airbrush cap. This is a great trick that allows you to get ultra fine lines, stippling and freehand textures, just to mention a few of the effects. But it does take practice to get used to working without a cap (not hitting something and damaging the needle tip is one thing) Watching these videos has convinced me to all but toss my air-caps in the bin... I still have a few caps I use... but not that many... thanks again!!!

I'm new to air brushing. And I needed a few quick tips. I have a double action and a single action airbrushes. The single action needs a few adapter pieces to use the same airline.
My first use is that I'm trying to repair some parts I painted with a rattle can. There were hard to reach areas that had no coverage, and I'm hoping an airbrush will save me. If I put a heavy coat with the spray can, it would've caused runs and ruined my parts.
But I'll practice a while until trying to fix my previous mistake.

You have fantastic control and clearly very talented.
I am however going to attempt to replicate the exercises that you use in your tuts, hopefully it will give me some confidence to paint my miniatures. Im not game to start my own stuff until ive clocked up a few hours on paper etc.

How was I taught airbrush control? I was given some old newspaper sheets and was told to draw lines. The two things I must try to achieve with the lines are to 1) make sure that there's a "rat tail" on each end of the lines and 2) that each line has a consistent thickness between the rat tails. I spent 3 days, 8 hours each day, doing nothing else but that.
Then for the next day after, I was given more newspaper sheets, but this time, I was told to find ALL the capital letters on the paper and draw a very thin and straight line to connect them. Then when finished with that, I had to find ALL words starting with a certain letter and underline them.
After about 4 to 5 days, I have complete control over the airbrush. Before that, though, and before using the airbrush at all, I had to learn to pull it apart completely and put it back together. During the airbrush control training, I had to stop between newspaper sheets, pull the airbrush apart completely, and put it back together again before starting a new sheet.
It was long and boring but very effective. After those 5 days, I moved on to prepping the artwork, cutting the stencil set for the artwork, then use it to demonstrate the composition of the artwork.

Yes….that is amazing and I had some similar lessons when I first started my teacher at the time would get me cross out each second word in the classifieds section of the newspaper until I could do it without it spidering…the most boring and mundane exercises are 100% the most effective 👍🏻👍🏻

@@AirbrushAsylum Oh yea... It was boring as hell.. lol... One more exercise he gave me after the word underlines one, was that he splashed some paint on a few sheets of newspaper and I was instructed to connect all the dots. With this exercise, though, it's not just to connect the dots, though. Whichever dot I start with, the line must start with the same thickness and grow or shrink to the thickness of the dot I'm connecting it to. This one took some time to get right... This particular exercise, I would do every now and then to keep up my practice.

I used to teach some art school students these same exercises. It's the fastest way for them to learn.
