    Its a rule to never lube a tapered shaft, it will never tighten and will cause sheared keys. The taper needs to bite and lock the on the shaft . Oil and grease act as a spacer .

    • @MichaelSabo
      @MichaelSabo  Рік тому +1

      I appreciate the info. I am going to further research this. I've been anti-seizing keyed flywheels for about a decade and have never had a sheered key. I mate the tapered surfaces and torque my flywheel nut, maybe that's why. Regardless, just because I haven't had a failure doesn't mean I'm right, so I am researching this.

    👍 Micheal Sabo way to go man breaking that assembly process and processing of putting those engine parts and transmission back into place as one complete unit.

  • @Berm_Blaster
    @Berm_Blaster Рік тому +5

    Mike you need to definitely invest in a nice engine assembly stand. They rotate and hold the cases secure making it so much easier to work on. You wont be worried about holding it down keeping it from sliding around. Get one and after you use it a bit tell me where improvements can be made. I want to start building stands and selling them!

    • @MichaelSabo
      @MichaelSabo  Рік тому +6

      I agree with you. The reason I don't use one is because most people don't have one or don't want to buy one for just one engine build. I like to do my tutorials in a way that most people will be able to do it themselves 🤘

    It's A really good recommendation for stock engine's rebuild with ported heads on them. It keeps carbon build up out of the cylinder's and cleans out the exhaust systems and pipes to.

    @nunyabizzness5477 Рік тому

    Sorry Mike, I couldn't watch your last video. I figure if I don't see something like that, it doesn't happen. PSN's parts just magically appear.
    I never liked those crank-puller-inners. Seems like it would make the main bearings unhappy. Also, there's a chance of denting the crankcase surface. The old crank in the freezer/heat gun to the bearings method is my go to.
    I figure Yamaha, or any other manufacturer, intended those tab washers to be used, so I do as they say.
    I dislike plastic impellers. I REALLY dislike plastic gears.
    Interesting. I wondered what that large hole was above the primary gear in the RH crankcase half, as well as the pan handle area in the same spot on the clutch cover. Then it hit me like a sack of hammers. Then I did some digging.
    The RH crank half of the 86 Tri Z is the same part number as the 83-87 YZ250s.
    The RH crankcase half of the Tri Z is the same part number as the 82-83 and 85-87 YZ250s.
    The clutch basket of the Tri Z is the same part number as the 83, 85, and 86 YZ250s.
    The clutch cover gasket of the Tri Z is the same part number as the 82-87 YZ250s.
    What does this all mean? In theory, take an 83, 85, or 86 YZ250 primary gear, 86 Tri Z crank, matching year 82-85 YZ250 top end (I think the 84-85 might be able to use the Tri Z head, modified with a fuel pump impulse fitting the the right rear transfer port, and I'm not sure if the Tri Z intake can be used) and governor assemblies, and an 83-87 YZ250 clutch cover (to have a skilled machinist copy and modify your existing Tri Z clutch cover to use the 82-85 governor), and put them together. Bam. Exhaust valve Tri Z. Get your bottom end back and probably more top end than even the stage 2 mods. I can do more digging and looking at parts to see if this could be made to work if anyone is interested.
    Another good build Mike!👍
