A very sad day. Jeff Beck, a giant among guitarists is now gone. Such a loss. I am so grateful for all the music he made and played for us. His memory will live on. RIP Jeff Beck.
my sympathies to you. saw him open for SANTANA about 15 years ago. GREAT, of course. but an old friend of mine hasn't spoken to me since I was reluctant (thinking he'd be back here for sure!) in October to give him a concrete answer to whether I wanted to go see JB on his (my friend's) birthday. but I honestly thought he'd be back here, again .I viewed him as relatively healthy for a rock star.
The way his guitar would whimper and cry one moment and scream in abject rage. I have never heard another guitarist sound so much like a wailing human voice. One of the greatest guitarists who ever lived.
I have not felt this down and out, since my all-time favorite, Hendrix, died back in Sept of 1970...there is a permanent scar in my emotional heart from losing Jimi....I guess there is now room for another scar, from losing the unique Jeff Beck. For me, it was Jimi and Jeff--and then the others, who were also exceptional, yet not on the level of those two giants.
Hard to believe Jeff Beck is gone . Saw him October 14, 2022 at the Paramount In Huntington Long Island . Sold out . Still at the top of his game at 78 years old . Standing ovations. There goes my hero. Rest in peace Jeff.
It seems to me that Jeff lived his life his way. He didn't seem to have the ego problems that plague most bands and artists. He will be missed greatly.
His performances at Ronnie Scott’s were legendary. His mentoring of musicians like Tal Wilkenfeld or so many others was remarkable, and during the performance, his expression of enjoyment watching the youngest shine was priceless!
On a positive note Jeff proved to all of us that you can still play at a virtuosic level well into your seventies. He actually improved as he aged. Incredible. RIP
I always found Beck's guitar playing so unique, I had trouble describing it until I realized to me, listening to him, he didn't play across the guitar, from top to bottom. He played it from back to front. He pulled every note from out of his body, into the guitar, then gave form to the note with his hands, and then sent it straight out into our ears, into the world. No one else played like Jeff Beck.
Yes, Rick was stunned beyond words, It's touching and upsetting to see at the same time. Jeff's voice was (that word again...) so unique. There is no one who can do what he did, no one in the wings to take his place. It's a hole that will likely never be filled. I think that was was what Rick was struggling with. He might also have been stumbling over what gets me - that despite Jeff being 78(!), I feel that he was taken too soon.
I have only seen Rick as mournful as this was when Chris Cornell died Jeff Beck is a great loss that man could make a Strat sound like a synth or horn. Uncopyable indeed.
What makes his loss so devastating is that he was so much active, still producing meaningful music, still giving shows leaving people breathless, still not regressing one inch from his virtuosity status. This hurts.
@@yourmom3640 name checks out. You didn’t have to post anything. Your name and a frown would have been enough to prove that you are a troll. Fur the record, Metallica would have been a lounge band if people like Beck hadn’t inspired them.
@@billd9667 We are witnessing the passing away of a whole generation of music geniuses that carried the inner fire.If Jeff Beck would be a kid now wouldn´t get a chance ,maybe some useless youtube videos
Jeff Beck and EVH were reasons why I learned to play the guitar... I cannot believe that we lost them both... devastated... rest in peace Jeff... heavens are having the greatest concert right now...
Nobody could manipulate the whammy bar like Jeff. He could hit one note and make a complete phrase with that bar. What an ear he had. Completely inimitable artist. This will take a week or two to process. My favorite guitarist.
@@caprise-music6722 One doesn't excel at anything if one's attitude is, "Who gives a fuck!" Bizarre that one would praise excellence while spitting at it.
Blow By Blow changed everything for me. In college I played that album over and over. The man made the guitar sound ethereal, like from another planet.
I agree Blow by Blow and Wired I wore those Albums Out. The new so called great guitarist dont have an original sound. JB Was his guitar. There will never be another. Trower is Our last connection
While incredibly sad to see Jeff pass, let's not forget he lived to the age of 78 and had a very successful career. We should celebrate the life and cherish all the incredible music he was a part of. I'm certain he wouldn't want people mourning and would prefer everyone enjoy his music. RIP Jeff Beck !!!!!
@@spacerockwizard, exactly. I was not trying to minimize his death based on his age, but he did go out on top, still playing. I love his recent work with Ozzy on Patient Number 9. Great job. Ozzy was sooooooooo lucky to have Beck work with him on this recent album.
@@rosecitywriter, oh I agree. But at 78 years old, let's face it, there's many minor ailments that can take a person. Not at all minimizing his death, just looking to celebrate his life vs mourn his passing.
Fully agreed. What a lousy ending, but he accomplished so much and left so much behind for the world. I picture him saying either "Don't make such a big deal, it's ok" OR "MOURN ME YOU BASTARDS... I'M A F-ing GOD!!!" Maybe both at the same time, he was a fairly fluid personality
Just heard this earlier this evening. Hands down my all time favourite guitarist - a man with boundless musical imagination and fretboard savvy most guitarists can only dream of. R.I.P. Jeff...
This one hurts. He has been a creative inspiration for me ever since the Yardbirds. Always pushing the envelope for something new... in music and in players. And he was always mentoring younger musicians. I remember scouring the Orange album for hundreds of licks, all of them unique. Thank you, Jeff Beck, for your contributions to our lives.
We can be sad, I know that I’m devastated, but, more than anything I’m so happy to have existed in the same time on this planet as Jeff Beck. What an incredible person. Celebrate his life, he deserves to be celebrated, shed some tears, but crank your stereo and hit that groove, his playing will put a smile on your face. Cheers to Jeff Beck \m/ RIP
That totally broke my heart. Jeff was my favorite British Invasion guitarist. Out of this planet talent, humble, genius a true gamechanger to all of us who love the instrument. Godspeed Jeff.
Guitar Shop was up there. Give it a few listens. It gets better. I must admit though, that BbB took me on the very first play. There had been nothing like it - rock, jazz, funk and blues all at once with no vocals! I listed again recently and Diamond Dust really struck me. It sounded like a goodbye, but he did many of those over his career.
I had no idea this would impact me so hard. The guy was just really special. I hate this. RIP, Jeff. I wish I could be more graceful about his passing.
With Jeff there's no tank; he was connected directly to the fountain head! Loved his playing, and him as a person, for over 25 years! Like Zappa, Beck is one of a kind. ♥️
This genius produced, produced and produced.. the only master who got better and better. Age had no effect. Seen in in Manchester England a week before he was 78 last June. …….. in my humble opinion. THE best Electric guitar player ever 🎸. Constantly evolving, improving, innovating. Definitely in a group of 1 🎸😇. Godbless Jeff
Jeff Beck was one of the few guitar heroes that I had that I knew I could never sound like. His tone, feel and technique were all so legendary. RIP to a true guitar icon.
He was a guitarist's guitarist. I think players from all levels were more puzzled and amazed by his playing than were regular fans. Rick your video about him being uncopyable said it all. Totally unique player.
I was born in 1971. Jeff Beck was a steady constant in my life. So grateful that he kept on playing all these decades. I loved he was doing his own thing, not just playing in one band only. He collaborated with so many musicians. I often think Hendrix would have been the same way, playing his whole life and with many people. Nobody sounds like Jeff Beck. I don't think anyone can. He was so incredibly ageless and healthy. He looks the same. Sounds the same. Hard to believe his time was up already. All I can say is that I'm thankful I saw him. It was only once but once was enough to burn into my mind his greatness. I was third row with Mike Keneally seated right in front of me. I felt blessed to be there. He ended with Somewhere Over The Rainbow. It was one of the high points of my life. I will cherish his memory forever.
Trianna, I agree with your insight. I believe that Jeff travelled the road that Jimi was also heading down. Think about Woodstock: Jeff Beck turned-down the gig at the last minute, and who replaced him? Listen to Jimi's solo on All Along the Watchtower and tell me you do not hear Jeff - kindred souls taping to something larger than any of us. Maybe both of them would simply call it LOVE.
I started listening to Jeff Beck when I was as 6 or 7 years old. I was born in 1969. I didn’t even know what the name of his instrument was but I was hooked and hypnotized every time I put the needle on the record. My late father was an audiophile and high end audio businessman and of course music lover. So it was natural for me and my kid brother to have access to a lot of audio gears and music and 🎥 films. Upon hearing the sad 😞 news of his passing; I tried to digest this sad feeling by revisiting his albums and thanking my late dad for bringing such great music by great musicians to my ears 👂. Dearest Maestro Jeff Beck; your music is eternal and the ultimate source of inspiration for young musicians. Thank you 🙏🏼 for being born.✨💎🎸♾️🎶🌏
Think that you were one of the very lucky guys who saw him with Rod and Ron, in the good old rocking days. Peace and love. We will miss him for the ages...
I saw Jeff two nights in a row in '68, Cleveland, they were improvising so well that you would not know it unless you heard it, blew my mind that that was even possible. Every song different from the night before. Fantastic.
@@clemclemson9259 it was a flukish thing to happen to an otherwise very healthy and energetic dude...that's the shocking part and the wasn't finished part I believe.
Just heard the news. Jeff was my favorite guitarist from the British wave. Blow by Blow was so incredible to me I wore the vinyl out as a teenager. From then on I had to discover all his older material. Just great. We lost a human treasure. Rest in Peace, Jeff!
Thank you for your wonderful tribute. I don’t usually comment on social media about the passing of a celebrity but it was with great sadness that I learned that Jeff Beck died today. In the sixties some friends told me that I would really enjoy going to the Marquee Club to hear Eric Clapton and the Yardbirds. When I arrived at the club it was announced that Eric had left the Yardbirds and that Jeff had taken his place. After the initial disappointment I was thrilled to hear Jeff play and he soon won over a sceptical audience. Some weeks later I was at the Marquee club listening to another band and standing next to me was Jeff Beck. We chatted and he asked me if I had been there the previous week when Eric Clapton had joined them on stage. Unfortunately I hadn’t as my friend had an A level exam the following day. Jeff was unique and incredibly talented and no one played like him. He will be a great loss to the music world. My condolences to his family and friends and may he rest in peace. Thank you for the music.
This is great tribute from Rick and Tim and they really get what made Jeff Beck so great. I loved the comment Tim made, " he was not trying to get on the radio or have hits, he was just Jeff Beck" Truly one of the greatest guitarists that ever lived!
JB has been my favorite rock guitarist for a very long time. He's my "desert island" guitarist: the one I could happily listen to forever if that were the only artist I could listen to. And not only was he out there performing all through last year, he was still making new records that were good, different, and important. I am so glad I didn't miss too many chances to see him live. I will miss not looking forward to his next show. Condolences to his family and friends.
No one will ever play the way he did . He put HIS touch on every note that cannot be duplicated. A true creative artist and one of my guitar heroes. A musical genius who will be greatly missed.
We all have trouble coming to grips with the fact that our heroes are not immortal. It's a sobering reminder of our own mortality. At least we have a large treasure trove of his music to help us remember how great he was.
I agree. Our rock heroes of our youth have started to pass. That golen age of rockers born in the 40's and 50's are beginning to leave us. Truly a tragedy of immense dynamics. Rest In Peace.
@@johnsrous1616 Those of us of a certain vintage remember many of our rock heroes like Morrison, Hendrix, Joplin, Moon and Bonham dying very young, so as difficult as it will be to lose them now at an older age, they have all lived a full life, and we have gotten to enjoy their music for a long time
Stellar tribute Brother! You and Tim are helping all of process this loss. I saw Jeff perform last year May 30 last year at Royal Albert Hall and previously a few years prior in Southend on Sea. My love for the man will never cease.
I know, he was slim, toned, obviously took great care of his health, you could tell. But the disease he died of can kill you within hours. Look it up, it's terrifying. Especially sad for a man who stayed healthy, vital and contributing to music.
Tomorrow is not promised to anyone, sorry for their family’s loss. It’s terrible, much respect to Mr. Beck, such an amazing talent and underrated for sure. R.I.P.
@oneoldgit and he did for umpteen years continuously. I just wish that some of the other greats had been able to do the same. Imagine a full lifetime of Jimi or SRV! It's tragic how quickly Jeff was taken. Whenever it's sudden like that, it's akin to a kick to the guts, painful and hard to deal with. His legacy will live on though, and he'll always be spoken of with respect from all. Guess he's got to learn how to play a Harp now.
@@s00peracuity15 yeh he is great. are you very young or something? jeff beck was amazing and deeply underrated. he is pretty much the only guitar player i would ever go to see live.
What an absolute shame. One of the best guitarists ever! He is the reason I started playing and refused to be forced to play any particular type of music. He always forged his own path.
Very sad. Jeff Beck was SO innovative. The sounds/notes he summoned from his guitars will never be replicated. He was a uniquely styled guitarist and will be missed. In todays music world, there aren't any that can play as he did with the flow and the incredible style he had. RIP Jeff.
Can’t believe it. Jeff Beck, like Bowie and Prince seemed Immortal. What a phenomenal player. Even Hendrix loved him. It doesn’t get better than Jeff. RIP Legend.
I’m a huge fan of a lot of guitarists, but Jeff Beck is the Penultimate Guitarist for me, I laid in bed every night for 2 yrs listening to Blow by Blow when I was 15-16, giggling at the sheer joy bubbling up inside me as I listened to Jeff play me to sleep….Thank God I was able to see him 4 times in the last decade with my best friends-Long Live The King!!❤
We’re all at a loss for words. It seems everyone agrees that Jeff’s passing was so sudden and shocking. When I saw the sad news on a friend’s FB page, my first reaction was, “Oh, no! This can’t be true.” It’s shocking to me because he seemed so full of life. He was, as others have said, at the top of his game. And for those of us who grew up with the Yardbirds, his passing is a reminder of our own mortality. Rest in Peace, Jeff. There will never be another like you 😢

Nobody played guitar like Jeff Beck. He was the most innovative axe man that graced our eyes and ears with his tremendous talent. Magnificent creations of music unlike any other artist with a guitar in his hands. I'm so sad that he's left us. He's absolutely irreplaceable. What a tremendous loss. I'm totally devastated.
A Day In The Life is one of the most heartfelt renditions of all time. Hits us hard, what a tune. Thank you for leaving us will the brilliant music, forever! RIP Jeff Beck
The first time I heard that song it was labeled as "Untitled - Unknown artist" back in the "old days" of mp3 players. I was so shocked and moved by the song that I spent about a week researching like crazy who that incredible guitarist was until I found out and discovered a treasure in him. The man was an absolute genius.
I saw Jeff and Brian Wilson on tour together in Houston, 2013. It was somewhat of a surprising pairing but both artists are (were) favorites of mine. As Jeff reached the majestic crescendo of "A Day In The Life", Billy Gibbons strolled onto the stage...quite a moment.
I'm puzzled: you do realise that A Day In The Life wasn't a Jeff Beck composition? Not to detract from Jeff at all as I'm a life long fan, having seen him several time live since the 1970s. Just asking
It’s not an “older aesthetic”. Jeff Beck had an incomparably *musical* aesthetic. He started in the same place and time as other foundational rock guitar “gods” combining blues and country and whatever, but he never stopped developing, never stopped stretching and pushing his incredible talent. He often filled the musical space usually occupied by vocals, and his guitar playing was as expressive as any singer I can think of. He shared his art with many, many extremely gifted musicians and with all of us. His music is glorious.
@@nestorlovesguitar Wow man! I had a similar experience with hearing it many many years ago and taking spending ages trying to find it again. He really was special!
I was 6 years old in 1965 when I began hearing Yardbird songs on the radio. Even at that tender age I realized I was hearing sounds I never heard before. I could sing Jeff's praises forever and a day and it wouldn't be enough. Jeff, you were the best. I thank you for sharing your incomparable gift with the world these many years. God speed my friend, RIP.
Growing up I was a Hendrix FANATIC(still am 52 years after Jimi’s passing). I also have always loved and revered Jimmy and Eric. But I have long said, especially since his transformation from the Yardbirds and Jeff Beck Group blues-based rock, to his mid-70’s instrumental guitar masterpieces, Blow By Blow, Wired, and There And Back, that Jeff transcended that 60’s rock God guitar hero to become the best MUSICIAN to come out of that era. He always was pushing the limits of electric guitar music, always exploring new sounds, forms, techniques, picking the greatest musicians in the world to play with, most a generation or two younger than he, who often had to step up their game to hang with the old dude. In that way, he was like the Miles Davis of rock guitar. Like Miles, once he established his bonafides, he could have taken the easy road, and just played his hits and standards, ending up on “smooth jazz” or “classic rock” tours, collecting a steady check from nostalgic fans who just want to remember the “good old days” But Jeff, like all great music creators, would never be satisfied just resting on his laurels for a check. Till the end, he was out on tour, trying to explore what it means to be a musician, not just an entertainer. I’m sure Miles is smiling, knowing he’ll now have another master chef to stir up that Bitches Brew of creativity. You will be greatly missed, Jeff Beck.
Insane how fast he went. So shocking, he seemed ageless The absolute Master with an inimitable style - he left a lot to remember him by. RIP Jeff Beck.
I've been playing for 28 years, and Jeff was one of my heroes. I am so grateful I got to see him play live. He is easily in my top 3 concerts of all time, and the most astounding guitarist I've ever had the privilege of seeing live. The tone he could draw out with only his two hands was astonishing. I've been playing "Somewhere Over The Rainbow" all afternoon to sooth my soul. His rendition of that song always touches me deeply. Quite fortuitously I just found out about an hour ago that my sister is pregnant and I'm going to be an uncle. Now I'm going to lobby for my sister to name the baby "Beck". I feel like the stars and planets have aligned on this one. Every time a door closes, a new one opens. Maybe if everybody gives a thumbs-up to this comment we can collectively convince her to go with "Beck". Thank you Rick and Tim for this video and all the positivity you guys bring into our world. We all love you guys. Respect.
Jeff Beck. The name is all you need. When the greatest guitarists ever list is posted you will always see his name near the top or at #1. Those of us old enough to have heard him play as kids are truly heartbroken. There will never be another. RIP, and thank you, sir. May your name continue to influence future axemen and women.
@Stem Foreal congrats on becoming "uncle Stem", and for your sister, let her know that there is this lady here with 2 grandson's 21yrs old & 13 yrs (man time flies) who is smiling & happy for her and that perhaps, middle name Beck at least. lol xoxox 💕💫💕
So sad! Rick and Tim you guys did a great job memorializing Jef! Just so much great music to look back on and I do have one regret, that I never saw him live… I still have my original vinyl from my teens of blow By Blow, Wired and There and Back! Love them as much as I did, when I was just getting into him in my beginning years as a guitarist!
I am amazed at the way Jeff would accompany himself in many songs with the mindfulness of an improvising arranger. He would play guitar with the totality of the song in mind. Melody, harmony, counterpoint etc. all appeared in many of his solos with amazing fluidity and subtleness. That is what makes listening to his music, after repeated plays, so fascinating. Much, much more than a rock guitarist. A master of the electric guitar and the musical adventure.
there's nothing to say that a million other people aren't already saying shock. we are all in shock. this was so sudden... and Jeff was an absolute legend. the musician's musician, unquestionably one of a kind. there will never be another Jeff Beck and I think I like it that way - it highlights how absolutely unique he was while still being more melodic than most other players I've eve heard. his hands were true gifts and Im so, so glad he shared that with us for so long. ok, off to stack up JBG, Beck-Ola, Wired, and Blow by Blow RIP Jeff. =(
@@jonbongjovi1869 yeah, very very few. he never slowed down - he really sounded just as vital at any part of his career as he had at any other point. Im 16 and recently I have been listening to his music and he has already left such an impact on my playing. He has forever changed my life in music and my overall outlook on guitar. RIP 🎸 ❤
Quick story about the time I saw Jeff Beck: I saw Jeff’s show in Toronto a few months ago. It was my first time seeing him live and actually listening to his music (I’m 22 years old). What a treat it was for me hear his music for the first time live by the legend him self. I then grew to love his music after digging up his old stuff and I discovered a new style of guitar playing. After the show in Toronto, Jeff was nice enough to stop and take pictures with fans outside of his tour bus. It was crowded but he took the time to meet his fans. He was nice enough to sign mine and my moms ticket. As he got closer to me after singing the tickets my mom had, i put my right hand out and I proudly ask Jeff.. “Jeff can you transfer the tone to my hand”. Referencing the “tone is in the fingers” saying in the guitar world. Jeff smiled and proudly shook my hand. Being a guitar player my self that really had an impact on my guitar playing because it gave me a lot of inspiration to continue playing. I have a video of that moment when it happened and it’s beautiful I keep looking back at it for motivation to keep practicing. The sum up this comment. I just wanna say thank you to Jeff for the music he put out there that I discovered very late but it on time. He was a great person and great guitar player. May he Rest In Peace Fly on little wing 🕊
I’m fortunate to have seen him multiple times, and he’s a hero of mine not just for his unparalleled artistry and craftsmanship, but also for his humility and humanity. So humble, so generous. An original. One of a kind. A miracle.
I haven't lived in a world where there was no Jeff Beck. He was a big part of my musical and guitar discoveries and growth. And he is just a cool guy. And great petrol head. He loved hot rods. I will miss him forever. Amazing person and musician.
The loss is TRULY felt on this one. Unprepared. I'm afraid we are going to see more in 2023 as our musical heroes leave us. A punch to the kidneys. True original. No weight lifting - just the right notes
Jeff Beck was from another planet. He was like a painter using his instrument to create an amazing and beautiful piece of sonic art every time he picked it up. Not sure if there will ever be another one like him.✌🏻
Thank you Rick and Tim for honouring Jeff. There is a generational connection with certain people in the music community that’s very personal to us all. It just feels like a community mourning one of their own. Especially those who grew up with Jeff and people like him who impacted our lives. I think many of us like to see a little of ourselves in him. Even for those of us who weren’t fortunate to have a personal relationship with him it was nevertheless somehow made through his music. It almost feels like a little piece of us has also died. Life, what a trip. RIP oh great one. 🙏🏻
My day just went from OK to really awful, after just hearing that my musical hero Jeff Beck has died. I was dreading this day given his age but he seemed so healthy and playing just as amazing at age 78. Bacterial Meningitis apparently. The day I walked into this tiny record store and and heard this music playing, a real unique blend of rock, jazz, funk, blues, my musical world changed. I asked the clerk what record he was playing, he replied Jeff Beck's Blow by Blow. 1975. I bought it, brought it home, and listened the crap out of it. A perfect album. That solo in "Cause We've Ended as Lovers" is musical nirvana. I saw him play five or six times, the first time in the smelly gym of a high school in Plattsburgh for his There and Back tour (1980). I could not believe he was playing in this terrible (for acoustics) location! His know famous performance at Ronnie Scott's, with a who's who of musical luminaries in attendance, was an amazing live performance. I'm biased but he gets my vote for greatest electric guitarist ever. In terms of tone, feeling, technique, versatility, tastefulness, out and out weirdness at times, phrasing, he was unsurpassed. I'm feeling really bummed out right now and will be listening to Blow by Blow before I go to bed.
...and how he recognized Tal Wilkenfeld's amazing talent and gave her so much space on the stage. She must be utterly devastated today. He IS one of the absolute best.
Beck was one of the all time greats. He could play anything but no one could play like him. I always thought he was more inspiring than influential because playing like him is impossible. He is impossible to imitate and he never stopped trying to improve. So many players achieve success and quit developing. So glad we got so many years of listening pleasure from him.
It's a real sad day back when I was just a teenage punk I heard Shapes of Things by the Yardbirds and was blown away by the guitar said who the hell is that I knew at that moment I had to get a guitar been a Beck fan ever since people would ask can you play this can you play that and I would say why? It's already been done as much as I ve see others try to copy or emulate his playing no one can he was without question the one and only the thing that set him apart was his love and respect for the instrument he played he also knew how to put his emotions and soul into his playing that's why he can't be imitated he is his own man rest in peace Jeff you will be sorely missed
Totally shaken to the core when I found out - Jeff seemed unstoppable; always at the top of his game. It seems unfathomable, unimaginable -that he could be gone. Jeff Beck was and is my only guitar hero for the past 42 years. Especially love the Yardbirds ‘65-66 Recordings (Shapes of Things, Heart Full of Soul, NYC Blues, OverUnderSidewaysDown etc) but also ALL of his records thru the years, Blow By Blow, Wired, There & Back, on up to the present-his instrumental versions of “Caroline No” & “Don’t Talk (Put Your Head on My Shoulder) and his solos on “Isolation” & “Scared for the Children”…so much melodic invention, emotion & soul coming from his head, heart & hands. Thank you, Jeff Beck! 😢💔🕊 Forever in our hearts…
Guitarists tend to be a generic bunch with very few innovators, however, Jeff Beck was above and beyond. A really unique musician, encompassing rock, soul, fusion, jazz, funk and esoteric influences. His touch and control of his signature model, Fender Stratocaster, was truly astonishing. He was the only guitarist from the many highly lauded rock guitarists who I could remain enthused about and never tire of listening to see what he’d come up with next. He was always interesting, always different and often incredibly soulful; nuance and subtlety being his gift, and his gift alone on his more tender material with the way he would finesse every breath of emotion using his just his bare thumb and fingers. Out of all the musicians from his generation, none-one saw his untimely death coming. A devastating loss to the guitar community and world at large. R.I.P. 🥲🎶🎸
‘Guitarists tend to be a generic bunch’ - there’s some truth to that statement, but ultimately shows how shallow and undiscerning your view is. You can show respect and commend someone (In this case a musical/guitar legend) without generalising a whole swathe of people.
@@nathanmcdonough8474 totally disagree, I think he's dead on if you actually try to discern what he's saying. The overwhelming majority of players ARE copy cat's, not JB, an innovation machine until his passing.
Well apparently I don't get it as I've been waiting 40 years to hear a Jeff Beck piece that struck me as unique, or interesting or exciting but nothing ever materialized. Someone here will point the jazzer towards whatever y'all are referencing musically.
I'm ten years younger than Jeff. Hearing Becks Boogie made me a fan for life. When Blow By Blow came out I lost my mind it was sooo good. Unlike a lot(most) rockers of his generation, he just kept getting better right up to the end. Rick is right, he is uncopiable. Proof of that is, who takes over his mantle ? RIP
RIP Jeff, you were a guitar giant, among men. As Rick made the comment, regarding how we wish these artists could live forever, and I'm afraid these next 10 years will be tough on us rock enthusiasts.
Exactly right, the last couple of months has seen a lot of well known people going. They're all getting to their late 70s, early 80s, they know it too....
It's humbling for any of us that grew up with this music.... shocking for those few like JB, at his age never relenting, always creating and seemingly impervious to aging in his joints his hands, his speed, his technique always evolving and his desire to continue playing live and doing it with gusto like he was 20! That's the shock, like I thought I'll catch him next year on another kickass tour, I saw 4 different iterations beginning with The tour of JB and Hammer live which was basically BBB and Wired at the show I saw in Birmingham in a 3000 seat hall on the floor in folding metal chairs and everyone was so well behaved for 1976, incredible.
@@Redlinesixtynine absolutely correct, time waits for no man, and our hero's are human after all; JB did it his way and never stopped pushing and touring, only finished his last tour two months ago...doing what he loved, a magical alchemist like no other on the six string. Live now, life is short and time is luck.
Jeff Beck's loss is a tough one to process. He could make the guitar sing unlike anyone else could. RIP, Jeff. You and your music will always be with us.
Thank you for doing this, Rick Beato and Tim Pierce. It means a lot. The ten-second sound bytes on the evening news aren't enough for Jeff's mourning fans.
When I think of Jeff's finest moments..Nissan Dorma...Diamond Dust...'Cause we've ended as lovers...there was simply No One like like him. He played with all the expression and virtuosity of the best violin and cello players; he had a way with a melody that was simply unequalled. He did what the best music is supposed to do: move us deeply. He will be profoundly missed- lucky for us that he left us so much beautiful music to enjoy. Thank you, Jeff.
So brilliant. That unbelievable phrasing, and bottomless well of ideas fresh written in each moment. Such a deep expression of pure sound. He cancelled the appearance--was sick when I had tickets to see him at Hancher Auditorium in Iowa City IA in 74 or so...missed seeing Miles in Chicago the same way...I still wanted to see him and he was going to be in Nashville IN in Oct this year & I could have given myself the 70th birthday present of seeing Jeff Beck with my sons who have heard me play him for them their whole lives...so sad...
Jeff Beck, one of the last remaining most innovative, original sounding and pretty much uncopyable of them all! May he rest in peace! Thank you Rick and Tim! Be safe!
expansive...expressive...ever evolving...thank God he never stopped growing and testing and trying and reaching. Art is for humans. Thank you Jeff Beck.
Jeff is legend right up there with Jimi Hendrix , Jeff playing a Strat that you see nobody has copied , Many imitate Hendrix but I have never seen anybody do Beck . I was shocked to see that he has died . I am 60 years old and so glad I was born in a era of great music and legends like these , but also sad as I get older I am losing these great musicians as time goes on and before you know it I myself will meet the same fate. These musicians influence me to pick up a Stratocaster . Me and my Stratocaster will weep for another lost legend .
Well said, my guitars will weep for him as well, as I have been doing, his passing, like no other guitarist before and I can't imagine but a couple in the future will have such a profound effect, it's a marking of time for us that saw BBB and Wired live, I'm so blessed to have been there and caught lightning in a bottle for a night. It marks the end of an era for me, my #1 guitar hero. Live Now, Life is short, and time is luck.
How devastating! Jeff was my guitar hero, I am 65 years old and I still listen to his music weekly. If you listen to his music you can’t help but love him and his music . There will never ever be another Jeff Beck. I will continue to listen to his music weekly as long as I live. I had the privilege of seeing him a few years ago and it was awesome and I was able to take my daughter with me. He will be dearly missed .
When he kicked off his solo on Stevie Wonder’s “Looking for Another Pure Love” on the album “Talking Book” after the first two-note phrase, Stevie literally laughs out loud cuz he just heard something special and, being a musical genius as well, he knew instantly his beautiful song was getting, what turned out to be one of the greatest guitar solos ever recorded. Beck continues and after a few more bars, Stevie says, matter-of-factly, “Do it, Jeff.”
@@ryanjones4150 totally-you’re welcome. When u listen to that solo you will hear one of tomo fulita’s obvious influences when it comes to single note phrasing and tone.
🙏🙏🙏I just saw him perform in Red Bank New Jersey at the Count Basie theater which was historical for me since it was the first time that I had gotten the chance to see him. It was on my bucket list to try and see him in my lifetime which took quite some time for me being born in 1971 and listening to his incredible artistry throughout my lifetime with his musicianship in many genres and groups and solo projects. I am thankful I finally got to see him perform and I am so sorry to learn about his passing. Rest in peace Jeff Beck so sorry for the family and for all of our loss
Jeff Beck was so important because he chose his own musical and artistic development over fame every time. And the results were stunning. He lived a good and generous life and showed us what really mattered
While saddened, I'm simply celebrating the fact (selfishly) that I got to know of his (even then) incredible body of work at a young age, and it continued being nothing but special. As a result, his music has been present in my life for most of my 50 years. He was also an human being to cherish. Humble, comedic and when I watched him live, I found his soul, sound quality and feel way beyond my descriptive power. He seemed to work with musicians who were not there to simply support him, but to be team partners in producing sonic perfection. I'll not be lucky enough to see his other worldly talent packaged in such a grounded decent human being, again. The fact he was also a Hot Rod restorer, man are you kidding me!! He is a God now with the Gods......
Shocked to hear about the passing of my favorite guitar musician. I was fortunate to see Jeff perform in person and will always be grateful I was able to experience his God given talent. Condolences to his Family and friends who knew him. RIP Jeff Beck. You’ll be missed, but never forgotten. ❤️
Thank you both for being so in awe of the magic of music. You have learned it all , sectioned , deconstructed, created, made it all but still you talk like two teen agers . Thank you again . RIP JB a real maestro .
I turn 58 to next week too, I've notice after around 55 ones starts to realize how very short life is. Jeff Beck has certainly left his mark on this world, incredible musician.
His passing was sudden and not surprisingly felt by many including, of course, the greatest guitarists of his generation who all looked to him in awe and they are his friends and contemporaries; Watched a live show from September '22 and though Jeff was advanced in years he had not lost one ounce of his faculties, ability, skills, or his on stage humor and love of playing live with others, they guy was absolutely on fire for his last tour ~ RIP Jeff Beck
Adeus amigo. Graças a Deus te encontrei 3 vezes. Até a próxima Junto com o Eterno onde estiver. Amém Arnaldo Neto. São Paulo, Brasil . 😔 🙏
The saddest part about his passing after the shock of his death of course is that legacy media did not report, did not confirm and do not even understand what a devastating loss this to the music world. RIP Jeff Beck. Prayers for his loved ones 🙏💔
What a shock, he was on tour only recently. Jeff & his wife were very kind to JD when he was having difficult times & he stayed with them for a while. RIP Jeff.
Jeff Beck was kind enough to accompany Tommy Bolin's body to be flown home after Tommy's untimely death due to 'misadventure'...if not foul play... after their previous show. He then honored Tommy by playing Billy Cobham's Stratus until the very end. That is a caring heart with an angel's hands and an electrifying delivery.
Amen...They were kindred spirits, Bolin and Beck. A lot of mutual respect, and influence on each other for a short time there in the mid-70s, prior to Tommy's tragic passing (as you described). They were definitely on parallel paths for a while there, looking for the same things to develop their own voices perhaps. And lucky enough for us, Beck lived long enough to realize the rewards of that quest, and unfortunately Tommy did not. But I'm certain that if he'd lived long enough to get past his addictions, we'd be celebrating his accomplishments and seeing him in a similar light as we do Beck. R.I.P., to both.
A very sad day. Jeff Beck, a giant among guitarists is now gone. Such a loss. I am so grateful for all the music he made and played for us. His memory will live on. RIP Jeff Beck.
A very sad day.
I unfortunately never got to see Jeff Beck live
Just saw Jeff in Toronto on October 17th. He was 1 / 1. The world is diminished.
He isn't dead. He is his music and he lives on.
my sympathies to you. saw him open for SANTANA about 15 years ago.
I saw him November 9, 2022 in San Jose. I think he only played 2 more shows. I'm grateful that was the 4th time I had seen him. Sold out.
You are so lucky to see him Play..
lucky 🍀 🎸
I saw the Jeff in N.Y. 1969, & in Vegas 2014, best stuff ever. R.I.P.
I'm kicking myself for missing that show.
He always looked happy to let others shine.
On a positive note Jeff proved to all of us that you can still play at a virtuosic level well into your seventies. He actually improved as he aged. Incredible.
RIP
he could ......most others dont !!!
Absolutely--it always amazed me, there was no denying he was getting better!
I don't know of any guitarist Jeff's age that plays at the level he did at that age... and just kept improving here and there.
I've never seen Rick so shaken up and we all understand. I guess we are all stunned, beyond words. Thank you Rick for doing this.
This hurts.
Becks career trajectory was as unique as his sound was!🎼💫
There is no one in the wings to take his place either. We just loss 10 percentile points for the foreseeable future.
He was dogshit. Metallica was better.

It was bacerial menegitis. It was unexpected and he was in good health. That's why it's a tragedy.

Fully agreed. What a lousy ending, but he accomplished so much and left so much behind for the world.
I picture him saying either "Don't make such a big deal, it's ok" OR "MOURN ME YOU BASTARDS... I'M A F-ing GOD!!!"
Maybe both at the same time, he was a fairly fluid personality
Jeff was a genius. His albums “Blow by Blow” and “Wired” are masterpieces.
Totally. Desert island stuff. Check out bucovak’s tribute😢😊
This is hard to take. He wasn’t a fading star, he was still at the top of his game with plenty more left in the tank. RIP Jeff, you were amazing. ❤
Are Amazing..
Agreed! ✌️

Great eulogy, brother. Beautifully written. 🙏
Name baby Beck Ola...
A master of the electric guitar and the musical adventure.
there's nothing to say that a million other people aren't already saying
shock. we are all in shock. this was so sudden... and Jeff was an absolute legend. the musician's musician, unquestionably one of a kind.
there will never be another Jeff Beck and I think I like it that way - it highlights how absolutely unique he was while still being more melodic than most other players I've eve heard. his hands were true gifts and Im so, so glad he shared that with us for so long.
ok, off to stack up JBG, Beck-Ola, Wired, and Blow by Blow
RIP Jeff. =(
Jeff Beck Group, with Rod Stewart: man! Just, man!
he was at the TOP OF HIS GAME!!
You can't say that about ANY of the other legends who have passed!
OUCH!!!
@@gertifity4868 I wore out a couple vinyl copies of that album, just amazing and still sounds as good as it did the first time I heard it
@@jonbongjovi1869 yeah, very very few. he never slowed down - he really sounded just as vital at any part of his career as he had at any other point. I've been seeing recent performances of his here in UA-cam over the past year and it's just as captivating as anything else I've ever heard from him. I don't think he knew HOW to slow down
what a loss
we know they'll all go sometime (and so will we) but I wasn't ready for this one
I think that we were all shocked by his death because he looked so youthful for his age.
Im 16 and recently I have been listening to his music and he has already left such an impact on my playing. He has forever changed my life in music and my overall outlook on guitar. RIP 🎸 ❤
R.I.P. Jeff Beck, Thank you for the music, so glad I was able to see you in concert, one of the best guitar players to ever grace a stage.
Quick story about the time I saw Jeff Beck:
I saw Jeff’s show in Toronto a few months ago.
May he Rest In Peace
Fly on little wing 🕊
Not sure if there will ever be another one like him.✌🏻
I'm sure that there will NEVER be.
No, he was born in England.
Picasso just died. It’s that heavy.
The most inventive rock guitarist of all time. I was lucky to see him a couple of times in the '70s. RIP, Jeff Beck.
No question about that no question
A mortal man but an imortal artist. The world will miss the man for sure.
well said
Well said. RIP Jeff.
The sentiment is nice, but poorly expressed. It is the immortal artist who will be remembered by all those who knew him only through his music.
Shocked and deeply saddened. I followed his entire career, as if I grew up alongside him, and his wonderful guitar abilities. RIP.
...and how he recognized Tal Wilkenfeld's amazing talent and gave her so much space on the stage. She must be utterly devastated today. He IS one of the absolute best.
We are losing so many of out greats from the 60's and 70's so fast ...
Rest in Peace, Jeff Beck ...
Alb, J B had layers of which I can barely perceive. No way I could innovate as He did.
Well apparently I don't get it as I've been waiting 40 years to hear a Jeff Beck piece that struck me as unique, or interesting or exciting but nothing ever materialized. Someone here will point the jazzer towards whatever y'all are referencing musically.
Very well said brother!
Rip master...
@@autk Well said.
@@lesleylesley5821 Page just turned 79, we always think of our music heroes as ageless, but sadly time is catching up to all of us.
It blew me away, it just came out of nowhere.
RIP Jeff, one of the greatest musicians of our time.
Both these players played their souls right through their hands into the instrument like no others. You can feel it.
Live Now, Life is short, and time is luck.
legends are jamming in Heaven
How devastating! Jeff was my guitar hero, I am 65 years old and I still listen to his music weekly. If you listen to his music you can’t help but love him and his music . There will never ever be another Jeff Beck. I will continue to listen to his music weekly as long as I live. I had the privilege of seeing him a few years ago and it was awesome and I was able to take my daughter with me. He will be dearly missed .
Totally gobsmacked and very saddened by this. An incredible musician and uncopiable.
Thank you for sharing that, I didn't know about it.
I love that moment so much
A great tribute story.

He is a god… now with God. 💖
He was my all time favorite. He had an otherworldly feel, he created art.
Thank you both for being so in awe of the magic of music.
You have learned it all , sectioned , deconstructed, created, made it all but still you talk like two teen agers .
Thank you again .
RIP JB a real maestro .
It's a reminder that life is too short. I'm 58 this time next week. He's left alot of good music. Thank you Mr Beck
I turn 58 to next week too, I've notice after around 55 ones starts to realize how very short life is.
Jeff Beck has certainly left his mark on this world, incredible musician.
Beck's work on Jon Bon Jovi's solo album is absolutely incredible. It doesn't get enough recognition. R.I.P Jeff Beck
Yes... Justice in the barrel and Miracle...
Yes it was and for the soundtrack to Young Guns 2... it's great I used to have it on cassette, thank goodness for UA-cam.
No wonder I like that album
The solo on the song Blaze of Glory blows my mind!!

His rendition of Nessun Dorma is staggering as is his musical range. Truly one of the greatest. God's not going to make another in a hurry.
I have enjoyed a lot of guitarists over the years. Jeff Beck was in the top 5 of my top faves. RIP.
Just heartbroken. Listened to Guitar Shop on the way in to work and let myself feel the grief. Such a terrible loss.
The saddest part about his passing after the shock of his death of course is that legacy media did not report, did not confirm and do not even understand what a devastating loss this to the music world. RIP Jeff Beck. Prayers for his loved ones 🙏💔
What does “legacy media” mean?
Spectrum-with tommy-And Beck’s Wired and Blow by Blow. All three records, absolute desert island guitar playing.
