Jeff Beck at the warehouse in New Orleans , with Jan Hammer , simply the best , he was the most eloquent player ever, no one , I repeat , no one sounded like Jeff Beck , I've played guitar for 40 years , and his death made me weep ! God Bless the humble Master!
"If I fail my band will cover for me". That's crazy humble. In reality his own band members were in awe of him. You could see it in their faces during shows. They were constantly watching him with these expressions of joy and wonderment at what they were hearing and seeing. He was so much fun to watch. Beck knew he was adored. But he was too smart and decent to let it go to his head. Instead he stayed down to earth where he could focus on creating heavenly music and remain a true friend to all those who loved him.
There *was* that one time when Tal "covered" for Jeff after one of his amps failed by having him share her fretboard while she took a solo (which Jeff apparently appreciated so much that they added that "version" to future performances)...
Not really a Jeff Beck fan but obviously he was a phenomenal musician and the fact that he was so humble playing in Ronnie Scotts really says a lot about his character.
I have enjoyed so much of his music. Like many that reach his level he was a perfectionist - always looking to improve his shows so that fans that paid their hard earned money would have a good time.
In my book, Jeff Beck is one of the five great guitar players ever, and yet, he is so humble. All he wants to do is play well and send the audience home smiling. It is rare to hear a great player be so candid and honest about how hard it is to play in front of a discerning audience. Who would ever imagine Jeff Beck was that nervous about how he would sound, and how the audience would react. After all the years and so much acclaim, he still cares about doing his best. I am thrilled by his musicianship, but even more amazed by Jeff's attitude. So many of the folks from the 60s are dead, burnouts, or a**holes, but Beck seems to have learned the right lessons in life, and he seems to be comfortable in his own skin. That is not an easy thing when you spend most of your life being told how great you are. My hats off to Mr. Beck. Sorry to ramble. In real life, I am a journalist who has covered wars and politics for too many years. Music is my sanity.
He’s so adorable as well as so talented. What a professional man. Such a monumental loss to music and mankind that he has passed away. ❤🎶 RIP Jeff Beck
Even though his age of death is not shocking, the fact that he was still so active is what makes his passing very surprising. Tom petty, prince and Glenn Frey were extremely shocking, none of them were 70 yet. George Harrison had been so sick and not playing or making any albums (save for “Brainwashed”)
Yes, Jeff was so fit and our expectations for his future and our future to hear his next creations were so high. I saw him live in June and absolutely on top form… almost like a 20 year old.
Bowed out at his peak… we have only great and greatest moments to remember him by. In the Presence of Love now, Jesus has him close and we will see him again.
This interview hit my queue at the right time. Trying to process Jeff's passing, hearing the man himself is massively helpful. What an awesome, regular bloke.
Watching him perform, listening to him talk about his perspective makes him more alive than so many other artists. They speak humility with their lips but not with their faces. This man is the real deal. Despite his passing, he's still with us in all this brilliant footage. I feel deeply for his wife.
I was lucky to meet Jeff at a launch event for his book. I had heard he could be "prickly" and he was nothing like that. He let me pose him, he mugged for the camera, and even went out onto Sunset Blvd. to wave at one of those tourist buses. Everyone was freaking out. Then he invited me in to sit and have a beer with him. Nice guy, huge loss.
I am rarely, if ever, impressed by 'interviews'....same questions and the same answers given with an almost mechanical display of sincerity and interest. This was a FANTASTIC interview with an almost vulnerable Jeff Beck that knocked me off my feet. Loved listening to the responses and his explanations. The depth of honesty of his answers an his conduct during the interview impressed the hell out of me. Great job.
All true, just an extraordinary talent only surpassed by his palpable humility, how do you get to be this good and so grounded in your place in the musical universe. Him talking about the pride in his band sums him up as a very special talent. Some times you do feel the sky has one less star in it.
It’s so gratifying that a musician of Mr. Beck’s caliber and uniqueness who is still so humble and still concerned with the music first and foremost, is here to show young musicians how to be a good person too.
I get it. I don't think we're alone. I've got to say not since John Lennon have I felt it like I do with Jeff Beck and even then . It's different. Maybe because I saw him a few times, front row and shared a laugh, I'm older, idk, but it's been over a month and while I listened to him almost every day before his death (smh) I certainly listen everyday now. I'm feeling heartbroken. I can't imagine what his wife is going thru and feeling. It's tragic all the way around 🤍🎸🕊️🎸🤍🎸
Jeff Beck is a genius and master of guitar. What else can you really say. And he's as intelligent and articulate with words as he is with his instrument.
His music is profound and deeply influential going back to the 1970's for me ,but with UA-cam and video his concerts became accessible, what I would have given to have been a fly 🪰 on the wall at Ronnie Scott's for that, this interview let's me see a simple yet complicated virtuoso who has a humble side and a deeply respectful side , he can be intimated by the possibility of a bad performance yet works so hard not to, it's been said by others on here there will be a void that will never be filled by anyone like him in our lifetime and I can only hope to hear him playing in his eternal life praying father God made a place for him to be with us all on the other side of the eternal through Jesus christ our lord.
So grateful this show was recorded and so many people are discovering it now. Full Beck on display with this magnificent band. You can just keep discovering gem after gem in this man's career.
I put together a playlist of my favorite Beck songs and played them weekly at work for years, what a talent and legacy. His interviews are equally good, a sense of humor that caught me off guard. A true legend gone, but he left a goldmine.
Humble, funny, honest, gifted, soulful, technically amazing, just amazing. Been listening to Jeff for 40+ years. Just hope I get to see him one day. Thanks for the music Jeff!
I lost count of how many times I listened to this concert. Unbelievable show by the GREATEST guitar player EVER !!! add Tal, Vinnie & Jason ... it goes beyond description
Greatest gig I've ever seen him do. Wish I'd been there...like music from heaven....gives me chills... Pork Pie Hat makes me well up... unbelievable...love it!!! Mr Beck is amazing...
Not only is Jeff Beck one of the greatest players to ever pick up the instrument, he is so self effacing. The kind of bloke you'd love to spend several evenings in the pub with, it's no wonder he gets such talent to work with him. Such a lovely sense of humour. That's Ronnies gig might be one of the finest musical performances ever captured.
Wow! Now I get it. I knew Jeff Beck was a brilliant musician… now I understand that he is a beautiful human being. Makes me feel hope for our species. Thank you Mr Beck. Thank you for this upload too!
Amazing and humbling that JEFF BECK still gets nervous about a small intinate gig. he is refreshing to listen to , because I agree that is one of the best of the best ever!! and... i completely stumbled upon this gig and Tal Wilkenfeld, who is just a virtuoso, Prodigy.. to see her on stage with Vinnie and Jeff beck says it all... I LOVE these intimate gigs!!
When I first saw the Ronnie Scotts performance I was astonished by the size of the venue versus the band's 'big' sound...I understand the misgivings Jeff had regarding the sound and I admire him for doing the gig. It's one of my favorite DVD's.
Was lucky enough to share a pint with him in Wardour Street about 1990, shared my love of the Yardbirds, he joked ' must sound a bit crap now', but was very humble and unassuming. Lesser talents could learn a lesson on being a gent.
All competent Guitarists I know are highly competitive…yet, Jeff Beck showed us the power of being ‘you’. He trusted his ear. He trusted himself. Learning his songs this past week, it’s just been so refreshing. It’s like he’s given me permission to just play and be interesting instead of perfect..
name another musician that has played this long, with the quality at which he has maintained and i'll show you another great musician. He is at the top of the food chain. In my humble opinion.
'Goodbye Pork Pie' from the Ronnie Scott performance is, without a doubt, the most captivating, prettiest, and expressive guitar work i've ever seen and heard. Just mind bending. Completely did stuff on a strat that I've never heard anyone do before, and it's just utterly entrancing. Some people slow down and lose a bit of their skills as they get older, but Jeff aged like a fine Scotch. The entire band has no weak links.
Thank you for this amazing interview ❤️ Can't believe what a beautiful, humble, and talented artist Jeff is. So funny and graceful and also can't believe he builds his own custom cars!! This man is a genius ❤ Thank you Johnny Depp for introducing me to this incredible guitarist 🎸 Brilliant guitarist 🎸 ❤❤❤
Good that you have included the image of a guitar, otherwise I would have never understood what you were talking about when you mentioned "guitarist". And the hearts too... How old are you? Twelve?
A great musician should also be a modest person with his craft foremost in his endeavors, and all for his audience, whoever and wherever they may be. His true craftsmanship thus is multiplied for all to see and hear. Jeff Beck personifies such a musician. And we are grateful he has given us so much over all these years. Thank you sir.
What I love about Jeff is his unpredictability in his music. From watching him and listening to his interviews, he can get bored fast, and when he throws in those great sonic blasts that leave you with your jaw dropping to your knees and thinking " I've never heard a sound come out of any guitar like that!" Just great!
Can you imagine how many great guitarist are from that era? Beck, Clapton, Page, Blackmore, Gilmore. No wonder there will never be another decade like the 60s.
Such a wonderful treasure and an idol for us all, he was ..he will NEVER be forgotten and what a blessing to have such a colorful interview with his VERY perceptive take on the way things went down. Love his expressions and terms used to describe his experiences. And how much more his musical expression was!! A loveable chap and an all-around stand-up guy...RIP Gov...
I've been a Beck devotee for almost 60 years. I'm a guitarist who played professionally for many years. This interview is fantastic as it shows the true side of the world's most creative and innovative guitarist. And if you never saw Beck live then you missed something amazing. Alone on stage, he could capture an entire stadium for hours. What really got to me was when they played "Cause we ended as lovers". Tal!! OMG can this girl play, and Beck let her know it. It brings tears to my eyes.
Just found this great interview with Jeff, what an interesting guy and what a fabulous guitarist, thanks for all the fantastic sounds you have given to us over the years Jeff and the wonderful performances by you and the band, one of the greatest losses to music, RIP Jeff, and we are still listening and still very much loving it.
Many people today recognize that Jeff Beck is a phenomenal composer and guitarist. However, old guitar players - like me - will remember multiple ... decades ... when we considered him to be perhaps the greatest guitarist's electric guitarist... who relatively few among the public knew even existed. It is astonishing that this guy has been blowing the minds of guitarists with his ability to write great stuff that is so incredibly, seamlessly - perfectly - supported by his phenomenal playing skills... for... over... 50 ... years. There have been many (albeit a very small percentage of all) guitarists who have come along. Jeff Beck has transcended greatness: He is among the handful who are legendary. And to think that between his two great interests, if only one is a passion, it is building hot rods. That would make the guitar... just his hobby. Jeff, on behalf of 99.9999% of guitarists everywhere..it just ain't fair.
I'm still so sad. I just saw him a couple months ago in Brown Co. Indiana. Otherworldly. Regular bloke does not even realize how unique and important he is in the guitar community . Truly an artist in the highest regard of the word. There will never be another Jeff Beck....God broke the mold on this guy. RIP .😪
He was asked, "Do you think the Ronnie Scott experience is something you'd like to repeat?" He said, "no, I don't think so". I'm thinking....."PLEASE DO!" THIS IS THE BEST mix of great musicians, the guests, the cuts, the venue, just the whole atmosphere! It would never have been as good in a huge auditorium. Perfect! I've had this DVD for years and have watched it SO MUCH! It is a treasure to have so much of an array of JEFF BECK so well recorded to watch. And just listening to the audio is incredibly good. Well done everybody. Thanks Jeff, Vinnie, Tal, Jason and Imogen, Joss, and Eric for this great experience in music history, really! Please think of doing something similar again. This tops all the 'big' venues by far! ✌🎹🥁🎸🎶😎
The consistently greatest electric guitarist on earth for the past 6 decades Jeff Beck dies suddenly. 🥲🧐 RiP Jeff. Thanks for the sonic inspiration, cheek, humour and superb taste. Even when playing flash you always served the song rather than the ego. 🥰
Jeff's attitude to playing Ronnie's again perfectly summed up his approach to music and much of the reason his constant musical evolution over the decades; 'been there, done that'. He constantly searched for new sounds, new styles, new musicians-always breaking new ground. Bless him. What a legend. Long live Jeff Beck! 🎸
Great icon interview in an iconic place. I'm 66 and grew up with Beck and all the greats, I sat right where this took place, and while there felt the greatness of such a place. Thanks for sharing this magic.
As artists, we all fail, and as we reach for more, we fail more. In my work with artists across the spectrum I’ve observed that the best ones know how to fail. I know that might sound trite, but it is more meaningful than it might sound. When we miss a pitch we can either own the clam or turn it into chowder, sliding into the next note we know will fit. The greats do this so adroitly we can be excused for thinking they don’t screw up. It remains, at the end of the day, art.
I like rock and punk feels like a lot I like all kinds of music I saw like the oldest a lot classical music I played a lot when I was sick. Also when my mom was around he would soon to me where The Healing Waters Flow. I have found that really soothing. And when I was younger my brother John Bon Jovi on TV and I like a lot of his songs at the time still do Never Say Goodbye for your favorite.
So charming, unassuming, insightful and intelligent...and that endearing little laugh. Its like he doesn't know his legendary status...so very sad to loose this gentle giant...too soon. Excellent interview and amazing performance.
We should all be very grateful that Jeff took the challenge to play in a small Club setting I still think it's one of his best performances with one of his best backing bands Tal and Vinnie are perfect together and I am forever grateful I got to see them play live as well in America Jeff will always be self-effacing but will always be emotionally present and will always be unparalleled
I would have to agree with most of the people that have left comments Jeff is very humble and he is very good just seems to have a grip on life in such a great way it would be nice to see a lot more people look at life like he does I've been a musician for 50 years and I know that that is what keeps me saying as well music is a wonderful thing it helps our spirit keeps us going
Jeff your the best guitarist on the planet....period! You can play any style, your music blows me away every time I hear it...and I've been following you since 1970, the Blow by Blow album is my absolute favorite of anything you have ever did, its epic, a masterpiece!

@Jonathan Rock Cause Jeff Beck was in dire need of more praise from the public.
Amen! Well said mate and spot on. Forever Beck! NA1974🇬🇧.

Jeff Beck was really something else, wasn’t he? He was Jeff Beck! ”Master of Touch and Tone on the electric guitar". RIP, Jeff!

+Wolff Bachner Excellently put! My sentiments exactly. Jeff is class itself.
+Wolff Bachner well said. I strongly agree.
100%, Tommy Emmanuel being another. They could both be described with your words.
Wolff, I agree with your comment 100%.
My top 5 are: Page, Clapton, Hendrix, Beck and Keith Richards.
You said it all properly.
A great man. A very genuine and down to earth individual. In a world of snobbish musicians, we need more of Jeff's caliber.
Great Mark i agree
Definitely
@@martinskalnins2448 Best electric guitarist.
A shy man for sure. Good guy I think. On Talking Book too. Go Jeff!
He truly is a very nice man. Very humble.

I danced around jeff beck all my life, 57 here after ronnie scotts, i felt I wasted so much time getting here love this guy, with or without a guitar
Crazy to think this legend was nervous before gigs. What a humble guy
This interview hit my queue at the right time. Trying to process Jeff's passing, hearing the man himself is massively helpful. What an awesome, regular bloke.
I feel the same. So lovely to hear him chat away, and in such a down to earth vibe - says much about the man. 🎸🎶❤️
He's like any otehr regular guy just being his usual normal self and such a sincere man.
Watching him perform, listening to him talk about his perspective makes him more alive than so many other artists. They speak humility with their lips but not with their faces. Just breaks my heart that he's gone. Still can't believe it. What a loss. Love you Jeff and thank you for everything you gave us.
A true original and guitar legend. This one stings. RIP Jeff Beck. You will be missed 🙏
I truly love Jeff's Ronnie Scott recordings, lovely sound lovely band
I was lucky to meet Jeff at a launch event for his book. I had heard he could be "prickly" and he was nothing like that. He let me pose him, he mugged for the camera, and even went out onto Sunset Blvd. to wave at one of those tourist buses. Everyone was freaking out. Sweet, humble, funny and massive musical talent. We won't be seeing the likes of Jeff Beck again. RIP, Master B.
How humble is he? Just unimaginable that someone with his talent, craft and skill could be so self effacing. RIP great man.
By far the greatest guitar player that will ever be.
I couldn't agree more!
In your opinion, of course. I figured that you forgot to mention that in your post.
indeed
How do u think he compares to Satriani? He reminds me of satriani. Very similar people
@@SuperLuckao
Why compare?
It’s two different players in both style and technic.

Humility in a star is hard to find, Bless you Jeff for the decency you showed to your bandmates and your audiences. RIP son
The best interview by miles. A self deprecating genius of a player who probably still doesn't realize how great he is.
Yes he's extremely modest. So nice to see
He reminds me a lot of Jerry Reed. Jerry never knew how great a guitarist he was either.
What I liked is his unselfishness in handing out praise for others. The genuine manner he presents about music.
Jeff Beck is a genius and master of guitar. What else can you really say. And he's as intelligent and articulate with words as he is with his instrument.
R.I.P. dear Jeff. An infinite loss to the world of us mortals. Your music as your notes always flying in the Ether from and to forever.

Jeff, huge talented angel with a massive heart 'n soul.
Pea Ua Ma agree , he’s a sweetheart
All very incredible musicians. Sadly we will all miss Mr Jeff Beck.
This was one of the best, ever, of live recordings I ever watched.
so humble this man wow he's the most inclusive musician in the world ...such a hard worker bless his heart
Jeff Beck and Rory Gallagher, the two best guitarists that has walked on this planet.
Beck is so unique, no one could play like him.
I love how great he is and yet he doesn't know what a legend he is.

He’s blown me away. Always knew he was good but this gig just mesmerised me.
He’s now my new favourite guitarist ever. 😜
Phenomenal.
Yes by eß amazing. I'm getting hi. Confused with satriani though. Their playing is similarly unique.
Agreed
I'm still so sad. I just saw him a couple months ago in Brown Co. Indiana. Otherworldly. Regular bloke does not even realize how unique and important he is in the guitar community . Truly an artist in the highest regard of the word. There will never be another Jeff Beck....God broke the mold on this guy. RIP .😪
He was asked, "Do you think the Ronnie Scott experience is something you'd like to repeat?" He said, "no, I don't think so".
I'm thinking....."PLEASE DO!"
THIS IS THE BEST mix of great musicians, the guests, the cuts, the venue, just the whole atmosphere!
Very modest. Very brilliant.
Without Beck we'd have no Steve vai, no satriani and worst of all..... No Nigel Tuffnel.. No don't even touch it
@@youngandrew66 Have always thought Nigel Tuffnel must've been based on Beck. Satriani I could well do without.
I cried listening to this. What a special person,
What a wonderful human being. RIP Jeff Beck, you will be sorely missed
Jeff is totally real, just watching and listening to this interview confirms that, he is an improvisor, and a musician. Great bloke.
Thank you, God, for giving us Jeff. Thank you, Jeff, for giving us your art.
A unique musician!
I love how he discovered Tal through Vinny.
She was always such a great part of the band.
One of the greatest interviews ever!
Bless the UK for producing a whole lot of amazing guitarists.
The consistently greatest electric guitarist on earth for the past 6 decades Jeff Beck dies suddenly. 🥲🧐
RiP Jeff. Thanks for the sonic inspiration, cheek, humour and superb taste. Even when playing flash you always served the song rather than the ego. 🥰
One of the most respected guitarists in the business, very humble human being.
Oh. Beck. Beck, Beck-o-laa-laa. Thank you for this interview! AWESOMENESS!! Thank you for your ingenious artistry. Never get weary of you!
RIP Jeff. The greatest guitarist and a lovelly fella
the man is an amazing musician and an amazing person.
We should all be very grateful that Jeff took the challenge to play in a small Club setting I still think it's one of his best performances with one of his best backing bands
Tal and Vinnie are perfect together and I am forever grateful I got to see them play live as well in America Jeff will always be self-effacing but will always be emotionally present and will always be unparalleled
A Master Class right there in under 25 minutes. Wow!
Jeff your the best guitarist on the planet....period! You can play any style, your music blows me away every time I hear it...and I've been following you since 1970, the Blow by Blow album is my absolute favorite of anything you have ever did, its epic, a masterpiece!
Been listening to you since the Yardbirds and loving it all. RIP Master Jeff Beck 😅
Jeff Beck is God's guitar player.
yep;
Tribury Rotary And his car mechanic.⚙️🔧🤗
Tribury i totally agree with you.
You mean Clapton's?
He may be part of the covenant!
