1985 super Beta hi-fi SL HF900 BII playback Test January 2023

Fully restored 1985 Sony SL-HF900 super Beta hi-fi.
This is for a customer who sent me two 900s for evaluation and repairs in order to make one good 900 out of two bad. Turns out it took three 900s to make one good. This 900 had heavy damage on the front left side however the interior mechanism and video drum unit were in pristine condition. Video heads have a lot of life to go and the audio CTL head shows no signs of heavy usage. Video drum unit runs very smooth and quiet.
Restoration to this 900 was made possible using two other donor units.
Donor unit one:
Front panel
Replacement servo/ syscon board
Front panel power/ headphones pcb.
Reel table assembly
Donor unit two:
Interior Front steel frame panel.
Jog shuttle unit
Other repairs included all new capacitors in power supply. New STK 5441 IC module. New tactile front panel switches. Take up and supply reels lightly resurfaced for jitter free playback. All guide posts rotated. Pinch roller renewed. Light trace repairs in the typical areas of the servo board. Full systems check across several Betamax test tapes and full servo/ video alignment to factory specifications.
