Where is sprouting of nuts? You have soaked +dehydrated only.

You can use paper towels to pat dry the nuts and air dry a few hours, pat dry and change paper. 24 hours nuts are dry.

I dehydrate mine but if you dont have a dehydrater. Oven can go down to 170 usually. Roast on 170

Bull Dog. 170 degrees is way too hot, with Walnuts for sure, they are the most sensitive to heat. The oils are what you are trying to protect and not turn into bad oils by keeping the temp low.

@@robshell5367 I wanted to make walnut butter, so I soaked the nuts overnight. My oven only goes down to 300 degrees, I thought that was low enough, so I set it to roast, and half an hour later they were completely burnt to a crisp. I guess I can't dehydrate in my oven. Can I just leave the soaked walnuts out on an oven tray and let them dry out naturally,,or do you think I could even just throw the soaked walnuts in the food processor wet?

I've just put my variety of nuts in the oven as I don't have a dehydrator, after soaking it overnight. But just a question, do the nuts have a different smell after soaking them? I hope the smell goes away once they are dry. But is that normal though? That they change smell from before soaking them?

@@robshell5367 Thanks for mentioning this! Good to know it's the oils that we're trying to prevent from going rancid. Great info!

Cool video! I like it. I have a sanoma 10 tray dehydrator.. it does take up alot of space in a very small house.. but I keep it on the screened in porch instead of inside. Humidity does play a decent role in dry time.. but Im in NH so normally it stays pretty consistent

The title mentions sprouting. I see no sprouting going on, just soaking. Is that an optional step you left out? Can nuts even BE sprouted?

I think there are only a few nuts, and more seeds, that can actually be sprouted. Most nuts can just be soaked.

Cashews can be sprouted and are good for you only then

@@dontmesstheoriginal454 "Only"? I think all nuts are beneficial to some degree whether consumed raw, roasted, soaked, or sprouted, though sprouting apparently caused them to attain the highest level of health-inducing properties.

With dehydrating, the key is low & slow. Most regular ovens don't go low enough. You are correct, these dehydrators tend to be really big, maybe you could find a smaller one?

    • @robshell5367
      @robshell5367 2 роки тому

With nuts you are trying to keep the good oils, which is a big part of why they are healthy, from turning into bad oils. 170 degrees is way too hot.

How many can nuts stay refrigarted?

The nuts very crispy after dehydrating. They can keep for several months in the refrigerator after dehydrating and for at least 6 months in the freezer. 🙂

This is just soaking. Sprouting requires the outer shell. Still healthy though.

I think the risk with soaking & not dehydrating is most nuts will get moldy. Nut butter, to my knowledge, you want to use hard nuts, and actually roasting them gives them a richer flavor. There are some recipes that call for soaked nuts that you can then blend for different things, but although I know I've seen some, I can't recall exactly what for, I'm thinking maybe vegan cheese or cheesecake?

Hello.. I had a question that didn't you use salt with water when soaking nuts? I have see many places recommended using salt and/or some acidic solution like ACV. Should they be used or no.. what's your opinion?
