My FORScan Tutorial For Beginners!!

- If FORScan is new to you then this is the video for you. This video actually came out perfect in that I tried to apply some FORScan changes to my 2018 Expedition that I had just completed on my 2017 Super Duty. 2 of them worked...one didn't. I documented what happens when programming does not work and you can of course see the outcome when it does work. FORScan has 2 ways to make changes...standard enabled/ disabled and them actual programming where you are changing numbers in code to make changes. Both are easy to do but the key is to take your time and make sure the changes you make are accurate.
If you are looking for the coding, click on this google doc. This will work For 2017+ Super Dutys...much of this coding will likely work on other model Ford vehicles also.

Purchased the exact same OBDII connector. Glad to see this is what he is using and it works well. I've read that the wireless units don't work as well and can lose connection, not what you want when coding your vehicle.
Sean Brennan have you used it yet? I have a different brand but I’m having a hell of a time with drivers and not connecting to the vehicle. Did you have the same problems?

i Just want to say thank you for this video. I was learning how to use FORSCAN on this Handy tutorial this guy on the f150 Forums gave me but i didnt know how to get forscan to start reading my trucks computer. just programed the OEM LEDs on my xlt.
Need to focus the camera. For those that would like to know, the switch is for a medium speed canbus and a high speed canbus. Canbus is the communications protocol used by vehicles . When they first started computerizing stuff in vehicles they used medium speed Canbus. As more features and modules were added they went to high speed Canbus. Consequently today, some modules still run on medium speed and some on High speed. APIM is the main computer for the system. Contains Microsoft operating system etc. There is Sync1. There is also Sync2 which is the same as Sync with Myford Touch I think. Sync3 is the latest which is not Microsoft based. It is by Blackberry and much more stable. Not upgradeable from sync2 without changing major hardware from Ford. How do you know to use the not as built APIM module? Where did you get the spread sheet? Is the spread sheet just for your vehicle? How do you know what module you should be in to find the feature you are looking for?
8:49 I work in healthcare IT. So if I screw up on a complex config I can actually impact someone's health/healthcare negatively. So when making major changes I always save often and plenty. Meaning each time you make a change, save the config with a different name that will remind you of what is on there so you don't have to go all the way back but you'll have plenty to fall back on.

Great video. I'd heard of FORScan before but was unaware that you can do so much with it. I still have many questions though. Like Where did you buy the OBS II module (and cable)? Where do I get the actual software? Does it work on a Mac or just Windows? Where did you get the spreadsheet? I think I need to do some more research.

Great video, definitely made me feel more comfortable about approaching this. My main concern/question is what happens when a new sync 3 firmware comes out. Do you have to revert changes or what? Also, I wonder what dealer technicians think when they see these mods.

Hey Dan like the video! I have been watching different videos learning a lot. Also gonna try to get my 2017 F350 to run drl lights while driving. Not having all lights on. Also windows to roll up and down along with the side mirrors to fold when I turn my alarm on and unfold when I unlock with my key fob.

Very good video on Forscan with one exception. USE A DAMN CAMERA THAT WILL FOCUS!!! I got a damn headache trying to watch it.

I'm just getting into it myself because I need a new remote entry key fob for my 2014 f150 4x4 and the idea that a dealer will charge me $120 ($175@ the 2nd one I called) just for the key then $60 to program it just ticks me off for something so simply done by them with software and hopefully almost as simple to me once I get it. I'm glad to hear theres a helpful spreadsheet on the forums for the 150 and hopefully one for an Edge as well so I'll have to search that out. With all the little warnings that concerns me a bit but I'm pretty savvy with tech, not so much mechanic's tho.

Hi Matt...so sorry for the delay. I actually a have not made any changes since making this video. If you can find a Forscan spreadsheet on the internet for the 2018+ Expeditions that would be your best bet. I have not looked around but now that the vehicle has been out for a while maybe some folks have discovered some new things that can be done. Thank you! Enjoy that Expy! We love ours after 25,000 miles! Getting ready to consider buying new tires to get the wife/kids through winter.

Hi...I found my coding on the Truck forums. Best bet is a google search...wish I could give you more direction. If you have a Super Duty then it is listed on the Ford Truck Enthusiast forum for 2017+ models.

Hmmm... To bad the camera would not focus on the details. Overall good details and info. Question: Does it matter the engine size on Forscan? It is information that you enter into your registration, yet it seems to be more about the Year and model or vehicle than engine size. I am really concerned about getting the details correct for a 2019 F150 Lariat package.
Informative... but, maybe you should watch a UA-cam video on how to focus your camera.

I have a 2018 Fiesta MK8 Titanium with Sync3. I cant fine any code like you have on the super duty.
I did find the excell sheet for the F150 , but nothing for MK8 Fiesta.

NIce job on the video. I got the heated/cooled seats to work. Did you ever figure out the coolant temp coding yet? I tried mine with E5 (I have brake controller), but it didnt work.
Barr Thom I found information on Mazda forums (same interface) that you also need to change the hex sum at the end. Basically if you sum up all the stock values/numbers in a row, you will get 8 bit shifted hex sum, which should be equal to the last two characters. When you change a value, you need to recalculate the checksum. Hope that helps.

Hi Dan, I have a question, I have a 2017 Ford Super Duty with the 6.7 Diesel. With Forscan I'm wanting to add Show Temps on Gauges. I'm not sure which new code to use, the spreadsheet shows 2 options, Replace ** with E5 with brake controller which I have or A5 adds temps above gauges without adding boost gauge and boost data to menus, yes I also already have the boost gauge. Want to pick the right one the first time so I was wondering which one you used when you changed yours?? TIA!!
Hey there...so sorry for the delay...I was traveling for Thanksgiving. I used E5 because I have the brake controller. I am 99.9% sure that one will work for you. If it doesn't...no worries. You can easily change it. I would write down what the factory setting is before you make the change to the new code so you can go back to factory just in case. Hope that helps! So here is an item for you. I have a 2019 F350 Platinum and it had a recall for DRL that were too bright. The dealer lowered the brightness, but now I think the LED DRL is too dim honestly. Is there a way in Forscan to make the change and make these brighter?

@@AdventuringTodayBill, I took my 2019 F350 Lariat in for oil service and they did that recall while it was there and yes the DRL are too dim. I want to increase it back or at lease make it brighter. I'll need to see how much the Forscan software cost and get the adapter. Maybe I can give you my email so we can communicate on our outcomes.

Great question. If you go to the ford truck forums you can find them. They are usually in a sticky at the top of the groups. Most of what I have seen they are a google doc you can simply print off. Hope that helps.
Would this work on lincoln vechiles. I would like to add a oil pressure guage or reading on my guage cluster. Its all digital
It should. The key is to get into one of the online forums for your vehicle and see if they have an excel spreadsheet of the proper coding for your vehicle. Or if your Lincoln has a similar model to a Ford then you could try the Ford codes on your Lincoln and they should work. Just be sure to write down the OEM codes are you changing so you have them to switch back to if the Ford codes did not work.
This software works best with a j2534 box like the gm mdi

Thank you. I don't have them on the explorer...so sorry. I would check out the Explorer forums and search for "Forscan" and see if anyone is talking about it. The coding I used on my expedition were codes I found for Ford Super Duty trucks...F250, F350, etc. Most of the coding worked.

i swapped out my cloth seats for my 2019 mustang for leather seats and they have heated/cooled so i’m wondering if i can add the feature to turn them on
I have a 2012 ford Escape, I have issues with it shifting hard when the engine is cool, especially on cold days. I have heard a pcm update will fix this, can I update it with this software or at least change the shift parameters?

The secret to enabling features is going to be in the As Built Data. ABD. It seems as though all MFT cars get the same APIM and what differentiates the features is the ABD. The ABD tells the car which features were purchased and which to be enabled. ABD is not plain text, it exists as bits. Comparing the ABD of cars with Nav vs cars without Nav should teach us what modifications we need to make. The ABD is NOT easy to access or change and will likely involve using proprietary or expensive software to do so. Ford VCM2 and IDS are a guarantee. ABD is not unique to the APIM, in fact its used in many modules on the car. We are unable to manually change values on the APIM ABD.
You apologize for the cam not focusing. You have to keep the can steady so the autofocus can operate. You keep varying the distance between the cam and laptop screen which will prevent focusing. Yes, this is true, just see some scenes in which you actually hold steady and it starts to focus. This vid is very frustrating to watch since it never focuses on the laptop screen and you don't describe what the text is. Get a tripod.
How do you know from the spreadsheet that they're asking for regular Format and not AS BUILT FORMAT? and what did you use for the rest of the mods?

I have question if you can help please, I had a focus 2016 sync 3 with navigation and I already updated my maps to my region F9 maps for Middle East, before i had done it I was having a home screen with navigation but after i did the update and changed my region using the forscan I have now the home screen as it’s a non navigation (big radios widget and compass

I have the OBDLink EX and the latest Forscan. attempting to load the configuration on my 2007 F250 6.0 only produces 7 Modules. PCM, TCM.OBDII,ABS, TBC,IC, AND RCM. The first 6 show under HSCAN, the 7th shows under ISO. I get none of the other modules. I'm trying to get the BCM for tire size. When I try Forscan on my 2004 Expedition the same thing happens. Would you have any idea how I can get the other modules to show up? Thanks

There is another site that says you need to purchase a license to do this? You dont mention a license. Is it simple as logging onto forscan.org and registering and then hook up to the odb2 plug? You make it look too easy.

That is it. It’s not like vag com from Audi or VW where you ha e to buy a $350 cable. The FORscan system is so much easier and cheaper.

I have a ford tourneo 1.8 TDDi of 75hp year 2006, I have changed the vp44 pump for a scrapper, and it does not start, it turns the engine, but it does not start. I've been looking at forscan but I don't have much idea how to use it, is it possible to adapt the vp44 scrap pump to the ford tourneo with the forscan? I have an ELM327 ford adapter, and it works with the forscan, but I don't know what function to use in forscan to adapt the pump, if it is possible. Greetings, any advice is welcome.

You could try the spreadsheet for the 2017+...there may be some crossover. Most of the codes worked on my expedition. The other idea would be to search a forum like Ford Truck Enthusiast...search inside the group for your trucks model/body style years. You may find something there.
Awesome video! Can you code these stuff with android forscan or only pc?
Probably a year late bit I'll still reply, from what I read and seen on youtube it appears that the android version is basically just monitor (limited functionaloty) while the pc version allows for the module programming and stuff.
