TIPS: 1. Don't wash your hair too often. 2. Sulphate free shampoo. 3. Gently was your hair, don't use too much shampoo, use a scalp massager. 4. Use conditioner that meets your hair's needs and don't condition your scalp. 5. Use a cotton t-shirt or microfiber towel instead of a normal towel. 6. Use products that work for your hair after washing. 7. Minimize breakage, finger detangle, scrunchies instead of hair ties, sleep with your hair tied up. 8. Avoid hot tools. 9. Go as long as you can between salon visits. 10. Drink plenty of water and eat well.
Can we see your "natural hair?" Like, air dried, not straightened or curled? Also, you might want to try vlogging so your fans can get to know you better. :)
Apparently the term is “dusting” when you want just a little dusted off the ends. Trim means a lot more. That’s what my hairdresser said... who knew 🤷🏼♀️
My hairstylist uses that term. She has long pretty hair herself so she wouldn’t dream of cutting too much from my long hair. Dusting every other salon visit.
I think I use too much shampoo 🧴🥴 I just love a rich lather! But I don’t wash my hair too often. I use a mask once a week, tie it back at night, and I’m not blow drying it now that we’re finally in lockdown. At 51, I’m lucky to still have long thick hair and get a root tint/balayage every few months. Eat lots of veg, drink plenty of water and give yourself scalp massages. Keep safe and well ladies! 🥰 Hot tip: brush knotty hair from the bottom up in small sections, NEVER from the top down. This has been one of the biggest revelations to me concerning hair care. Give it a go, I promise you’ll be amazed what a huge difference that makes.
I love the invisibobble hair ties, they don’t dent your hair, and they help prevent breakage. I have long thick hair and these are the only hair ties that when I remove them after wearing my hair up all day doesn’t remove any hair!
I'm growing my hair to donate, so I'm trying to take extra-good care of it. I switched to a shampoo bar about a year ago, and my hair is definitely softer. (They're a lot easier to travel with, too.) I wrap it in one of those turban-twist things and squeeze it to get as much water out as I can, and then I let it air dry. My hair has always been thick but fine, and totally straight. It will not hold a curl--I once wanted an updo for a party, so the stylist put my hair in rollers and sat me under the dryer. She took the rollers out, and you could literally watch the curls straighten out. I'd love to have wavy hair like yours, but if I haven't found anyone who can get it to do that by now, I'm never going to. I keep growing it, donating it, then growing it, etc. It gives me an excuse to not have to try to style my hair; I don't have the patience or the skills. Now that I work from home, I don't have to worry about it. 😃
I never could figure out why the ends of my hair would go frizzy after a shower. Thank you sooo much! I let my hair dry naturally without using a towel & WOW! No brushing until after it dried. My hair looks so much healthier now. Thank you, thank you, thank you!
When I wash my hair (about once a week) I always shampoo it twice. First to get rid of oils and products build-up, and second to wash my actual hair. For each wash I use about a teaspoon of products, and my hair is long
Beautiful hair girl! One tip that saved me when I grew my hair really long: a hair pick. Start at the bottom and work toward the scalp. Makes coloring and shampooing a breeze; reduces breakage too.
I am 57 and have had oily hair my whole life. Plus it’s baby fine. I can’t stand the feel and the smell of unwashed hair. Therefore I still wash every day. I use about a nickel size amount of shampoo from the natural food store. I like desert essence shampoos, and beauty without cruelty shampoos. My hair is virgin hair, about 50% gray, so I don’t condition every day. I do it about every other day. My hair is shoulder length. It is healthy and shiny and I get a ton of compliments all the time! I generally don’t blow dry unless it’s winter and I have to go out of the house right away. If I do need to dry it, I concentrate on drying the roots, not so much the ends. Also most of the time I do not comb or brush after washing. I just arrange it, finger comb, and let it dry. Never any hot tools.
I started following majority of the tips you showed in your video when the quarantine began here in Philly. It’s been about 3 months and my hair has grown fast (started at just below my chin, now it’s about 2 inches below my shoulders), I have less breakage especially around my face and my hair just appears more full. I wanted to mention I also used that Christophe Robin sea salt scrub you used in a different video and I’m definitely adding that in to my hair routine. Thanks for all of the great tips!
I love all of your content that you post! Daily routine, what you eat in a day, skin care routine, exercises, and of course hair and make up! I bet any of the fun videos that you had planned would still be interesting. It's so nice to have an escape! 💞✨
after training my hair to go longer without washing, my scalp has never felt better, it doesn't feel dry anymore and i don't get a lot of buildup so that was a great a great tip!
The not washing your hair every day is actually a genuine tip. A few years ago I used to wash them every day now I wash twice a week, it makes a BIG difference
Im in the same boat as you, I have naturally pin straight and fine hair with an oily scalp. When I first started trying to pick better products for my hair I really wanted to jump into the natural products, but after I started reading reviews and researching I heard there was a almost 'purge' like period where your hair gets really oily and you just have to last it out. So instead of switching straight to all natural products, I went for a drugstore brand that was sulfate free but one that I knew would be really cleansing at the same time. Hence, Aveenos apple cider vinegar shampoo was an absolute saviour for a starting product. ACV is a great thing for people with oily scalps! I used the whole bottle as my transitioning shampoo before going all natural, after that was done then I finally purchased Calia Naturals shampoos. I highly recommend all their products. Just make sure you follow their recommendations for what to start with and do a little digging on their website to find the best stuff for you! Using the aveeno shampoo first really helped me to not experience that super greasiness that everyone seemed to experience while first starting natural products! Also I use like two loonies worth of shampoo, the amount of product for that really doesnt matter
I thought it was like that for me too but i added a shampoo brush so it can properly reach my scalp. Which helped massively. Plus i use tea tree oil on my head once every 2 weeks against dandruff. And about once a month i use a dandruff shampoo that does have sulfates in it.
Use love beauty and planet sulfate free shampoo use that and use suave clarifying shampoo once or twice a week. I have pin straight hair gets soooo oily but I do this and it makes it healthy and less oily
When drying your hair, dry with COLD or moderate heat. Although it may take a little longer than hot air, it is SO much better because: 1. Saves you from heat damage. Less heat on your hair, the better! 2. Less greasy hair! When your scalp gets hot, it produces moisture making your clean hair already producing grease.
I have long hair very similar to yours Alex! I'm going no-poo for the month of April because there probably isn't going to be a better time! I'm on day 7 currently and my hair already feels a lot smoother and healthier ☺️
i use a quarter size amount of shampoo and then just use water to distribute it into my scalp as much as i can. it may not be for everyone but for me, i don't need to lather up to feel like my scalp is clean.
I enjoy your hair tutorials the best. Especially now because it’s something I can do at home, with time to practice the styles since I can’t get them right the first time. I also like the hair accessories (like those cool hair forks), even just a little something to jazz up our hair and add a splash of fun. Besides, it’s affordable AND cute. I’m so glad I found your channel.
You guys don’t have to use shampoo. There is a thing called Ciaka (pronounced see- aaa-ka) and if you mix it with water and apply to your hair you will see results. Your hair will be more moisturized and healthy after a few months to a year. Also, put oil on your hair 2-3 times a week, and do the inversion hair method. Those are my 3 main tips. Hope this helped! 😊
Theese are some of my personal tips!for thick hair: - before bed wash your hair with warm water and condition it before bed - always put your hair in a loose braid before bed - get layers in your hair to make it easier to style -
My scalp was so unhappy when I trained it to go about 4 days between washes. My hair looked fine, but my scalp felt awful. I did this for about two years. Recently I started reverse washing every other day and both my scalp and my hair are very happy! My ends are healthier, my length is shinier and my scalp feels good. I have very wavy/curly but very thin hair.
I have lots of hair, but it is FINE hair with wave in it (natural hair color, no dye)...one thing I have found is that other than putting in some heat protection product for blow drying and hairspray...using other styling products makes my hair look worse and beats it up! I do much better trying to keep things simple. I will blow dry the top of my head around my scalp because this keeps away oily looking scalp for longer, and I let the length of my hair air dry in a top bun high on my head with a few bobbi pins to secure it (wash my hair at night). The top bun when let down later that night or the following morning gives my hair TONS of volume, and I get those perfectly manicured looking, fluffy waves as well for the day. I LOVE eva NYC Mane Magic 10 in 1 hair primer spray. It is one of the few things I can use on my hair. I have also found that despite living in a dry climate if I use super duper moisturizing conditioners it weighs my hair down too much. It's better to give my hair a good drench of an overall conditioner or volumizing conditioner.
Hi! Perfect timing, i want to let my hair grow long because summer’s coming and i wanna rock those summer hairstyles, but my hair is always super dry and frizzy, it’s so annoying! I almost never blow dry my hair and i don’t brush it because it just looks awful, but i’m definitely going to try the leave on conditioner and the mask. Do you think it’s ok to brush my hair with an hair comb during the bath? It’s the only time i brush it, because with the conditioner it’s easier. Lots of love from Portugal and i hope you’re well during this time 😘
Hi Ana! ❤️ I'm curious if you have more wavy + textured hair? If so you probably have thicker, stronger hair, so you should be okay combing it with conditioner it in, as long as you're not combing through any tough knots. Also are you applying any haircare products after your wash your hair? This can help a lot too! I hope you've been well during this time too, thank you! ❤️
Alex, yeah my hair is wavy on the top layers but with loose curls at the bottom layers (and thick), it’s not really even, that’s probably because it’s not healthy. I’m gonna try the volumizing spray, the leave on conditioner and the oil, i’m gonna look into some of your other videos to see how to apply them and in which order. Maybe i will find a luscious curly hair that really suits me, who knows? Thank u 😊
1) i like your hair 2) i like eyes 3) i like your smile 4) i like your softly voice 5) you kill me softly slowly 6) because you are so pretty and precious..... from Germany
I use somewhere between a dime and a nickel size amount of shampoo, and only on my scalp -- I figure I don't need much more than that, since I'm not putting it all over my hair! So I'm glad to know I've been doing that right! I flip between a natural, sulfate-free shampoo and a dandruff shampoo to get the healthiest scalp possible. And with my conditioner, I leave it in as long as possible and use a leave-in product, since I have curly hair that needs SO MUCH MOISTURE. And since my hair is curly, I only ever comb it (with a wide-tooth comb) right before a shower, or if I need to do it after a shower, I use a ton of leave-in conditioner to smooth things out as much as possible. I actually wrap my hair in a silk scarf when I sleep (as well as sleep on a silk pillow case) to try and keep the frizz down, and it definitely helps! With trims, though, the problem with curly hair is a lot of people don't understand how to cut it, so I have to be really, really picky about where I go to get my hair cut, otherwise I end up with a horribly uneven, awful cut.
Heat protectants actually don't help. Milabu did a video experimenting with real hair extensions and it showed that it burns faster with heat protectant. She also did a video that showed that soaking wet hair with water burns slower than with hair with heat protectant.
@@erikarussell7939 Idk, I'd say the heat protectant because that was the variable that changed. you'd have to watch the videos yourself to make the call though.
@@lawra89 I guess what I'm trying to say is that, the heat protectant burning does not mean it's bot effective. It's burning instead of your hair. That's the whole point. But I agree that I'd have to watch the whole video to make a call.
Erika Russell yeah, I get what you’re saying. The way I see it is that 1. I hate using products because my hair is so thick already and 2. Heat protectant can be expensive. Lol, it didn’t take much convincing. 🤷🏼♀️
Hi Alex! Thanks so much for the tips! I was wondering, do you find that bobby pins cause breakage or not? I'm finding mixed reviews about them from the internet... :D
Since I watched a video saying "use scrunchies instead of hair ties, I always did that. I see like more than half of my hair pulled off in the scrunchie, thanks so much
Baking soda and vinegar is an extremely gentle way to cleanse and smooth/shine hair. And it's very cheap, and it's safe for the environment, and there's no chemicals, and there's no plastic waste because you keep filling the same containers/dispensers, and vinegar smooths and shines your hair by closing the 'scales' on the hair rather than depositing silicone into the scales and weighing it down.
@Rebekah Someone below posted that 'dusting' is less than a trim when you get a haircut. If you ask your hairdresser for a trim, they cut more than if you ask for a 'dusting'.
My hair is pretty long & does tend to grow super fast the less I wash. I've always used minimal shampoo on my scalp & tons of my condition from the ears down so I know your tips are tried & true. I typically keep my hair a darkish cranberry color. I try to dye it only a couple times a yr- so in-between I will use a temporary wash-out color that matches my dye so it helps to keep my color vibrant without the harsh chemicals. Fortunately, it is a darker shade so it works. When I would go light (blondish-brown) this method would not work. Btw- I love your styles! Makes me spend less time on my hair! Thank u😊
My hair is fine, thick and oily. I actually started dying my hair in middle school so it wouldn't be so oily. Unfortunately I have to wash my hair every day, otherwise it gets bad. But on another note thanks for this video, very helpful :)
I am down to washing my hair to once a week. It took me a few months to get there. I would love to keep normal content on UA-cam. I Think a bit of normalcy will be nice.
Personally starting to put a little bit of conditioner on my scalp help me so much to extend shampoos. I feel like by moisturizing it, my scalp doesn’t need to produce as much oil!
"Don't wash your hair" combined with "dry shampoo is your best friend" is basically how I got dandruff, itchiness and basically wounds on my scalp - pls be careful... And I only washed my hair every second day, I didn't overdo it. It took me several months to heal from it - now I wash my hair daily as I used to and my scalp is finally healthy.
I agree, washing your hair everyday isnt bad if you have a certain hair type and scalp( scalp diseases play a role too) from my own experience i have wavy thick hair but the strands are fine so sulfates dont really work for me
Hi i loved this video i just wanted to ask when do you use scalp scrubs? How often etc? I also dye my hair blonde did you say you only do highlights every 5 months? It looks blonde all over what kind of highlights do you do?
My hairdresser gave me advice in how to use a hair mask properly. First shampoo your hair, that "opens" the hair. Then use the mask, leave it in for however long the instructions say, so your hair can absorb as much as possible. Then use a conditioner afterwards to "seal" the mask in your hair. That helped my hair a lot, it's so much better now. 🥰
My hair gets too oily to use sulfate free shampoo and it was ruining my hair with all the build up it was not removing.. feels so much cleaner and healthier with a shampoo that has sulfate in it. No silicones though. 👌🏼
1. Don't wash your hair often. 2. Gently wash your hair. 3. When getting knots out, you need to use a comb and be very gentle. 4. Dry your hair naturally 5. Dry shampoo is not your friend. Yes, it makes your hair look dry and full however, it's most likely causing your dry scalp. 6. Do not get your hair cut often. Only a few trims during that year. A TRIM ONLY!
moisturizing shampoo actually cured my oily hair! It means it was too dry my scalp especially. So i recomend to try moisturizing your hair a lot i think it helps with everything what’s going on on our heads :)
Can you do a quick tutorial on how your put your hair up at night? I have been growing my hair out for two years and it is about 4 inches passed my shoulders now. I have only been comfortable with it down at night but it does cause breakage. and braid always just gets tangled and I cant get it to stay in a bun that is out of my way when I sleep. how do you do it so its comfortable when you are sleeping? also how do you style your fringe? I always end up clipping mine to the side in a little twist with those snappy barrette clips because I cant get them to stay off to the side lol
I use a shampoo bar.. so it is kind of hard for me to tell how much shampoo I use. but when i was using regular shampoo, I'd use the size of a dollar coin.
i use veryyyyy little shampoo. maybe a dime size if that. i have very naturally dry hair so i just "wash" my hair with water and my hands, if its especially greasy ill add a smidge of shampoo. i basically just condition.
I use one tsp and mix it in a bottle with water and distribute half of the mixture on my scalp and rinse my hair then I distribute the other half of the mixture on my scalp again and rinse my hair another time this hack is the best for using the most minimum amount of shampoo very efficiently

Apparently the term is “dusting” when you want just a little dusted off the ends. Trim means a lot more. That’s what my hairdresser said... who knew 🤷🏼♀️
Sadly, some hair dressers don’t know that. I had to explain it when I wanted to get my ends dusted.

Lots of love from Portugal and i hope you’re well during this time 😘
Hi Ana! ❤️
I'm curious if you have more wavy + textured hair?
Thank u 😊
Ana Reis if you want some help with your natural hair check out Bianca Renée Today and India Batson. They’re awesome. 🤗

Perfect timing !! I want to grow my hair very long ! Thanks and take care, love from France❤️
Yay, I hope these tips help you! 💕
Out of curiosity did the hair burn quicker? Or was it the heat protectant burning quicker?
Do you do any DIY hair conditioners/masks/leave ins? I'd love to see a video on this!
You’re are literally the prettiest ever
Hi Alex! Thanks so much for the tips! I was wondering, do you find that bobby pins cause breakage or not? I'm finding mixed reviews about them from the internet... :D
Hi Alex, do you have a tutorial on how you style your bangs? Or what you ask for when you have them trimmed? Thank you!
Your hair's so lovely!!!
Hi alex, please can you tell me what kind of camera you use to film your videos? the quality is beautiful.
Loved your video Alex I love to see more videos like hairstyles and hair products too thank you I'm staying safe and healthy too!!!🤗❤️👋🙌🏻🙏🏻
Thank you!!!🤗❤️
‼️Ask your hairdresser for a “dusting” ‼️
@Rebekah Someone below posted that 'dusting' is less than a trim when you get a haircut. If you ask your hairdresser for a trim, they cut more than if you ask for a 'dusting'.
Hey Alex, what are you favorite sulfate free shampoos? Hope you're staying safe and healthy. ❤
Is using dry shampoo frequently bad for your hair? Or is it nonetheless better than washing your hair frequently?
I am down to washing my hair to once a week. It took me a few months to get there.
I would love to keep normal content on UA-cam. I Think a bit of normalcy will be nice.
I have a video suggestion: can you do a video about easy hairstyles for occasional outings?
Personally starting to put a little bit of conditioner on my scalp help me so much to extend shampoos. I feel like by moisturizing it, my scalp doesn’t need to produce as much oil!
Oooo I've heard of this before, I'll have to try it out! 💕
Her hair is gorgeous
I live in Malaysia, the weather is really hot here , I wash my hair everyday . I have not try dry shampoo before, any recommend ?
My hairdresser gave me advice in how to use a hair mask properly. First shampoo your hair, that "opens" the hair. Then use the mask, leave it in for however long the instructions say, so your hair can absorb as much as possible. Then use a conditioner afterwards to "seal" the mask in your hair. That helped my hair a lot, it's so much better now. 🥰
My hair gets too oily to use sulfate free shampoo and it was ruining my hair with all the build up it was not removing.. feels so much cleaner and healthier with a shampoo that has sulfate in it. No silicones though. 👌🏼
Also is it ok to use half shampoo and half conditioner?
Omg you are so pretty and your hair are goals😚😚
1. Don't wash your hair often.
2. Gently wash your hair.
3. When getting knots out, you need to use a comb and be very gentle.
4. Dry your hair naturally
5. Dry shampoo is not your friend. Yes, it makes your hair look dry and full however, it's most likely causing your dry scalp.
6. Do not get your hair cut often. Only a few trims during that year. A TRIM ONLY!
Hi Alex! Your hair looks amazing! Could you recommend us your favourite straightening methods? I would love to watch more videos
Alex I love it all the hair style thank you
Do you have any drugstore hair suggestions for shampoo/conditioner and hair maintenance products?
MERCI! definitely needed this video! thank you for also linking some products
Great tips! Can you share where you go to get your hair coloured? There are so many salons but it's quite difficult to find a great one! 🤗
Don’t ever stop making these videos !!!!!!!!!!
You're the best! ♥️
You've got the most beautiful hair!
moisturizing shampoo actually cured my oily hair! It means it was too dry my scalp especially. So i recomend to try moisturizing your hair a lot i think it helps with everything what’s going on on our heads :)
I use like '3 dimes' when I use shampoo, I just have so much hair and it's very thick...
Loved this video!!! Super helpful. Would love a DIY hair mask video!
Wow, these tips were life changing, I didn't know you needed so little shampoo!! AHH thank you!!
I use a shampoo bar.. so it is kind of hard for me to tell how much shampoo I use. but when i was using regular shampoo, I'd use the size of a dollar coin.
I don't use heat tools and use cheap argan oil. I use Garnier Olia to dye it. People love my hair!
so amazing !
I have a serious issue about hair loss 😭😭 do you have any advice to at least reduce it?
Thanks for the tip i been doing wrong all my life using a ton of shampoo 🧴
how often do i need to trim my hair
Do you have any tips or could you post any videos for hair styles that look good on video calls? Thank you for your videos!
alex forgot to mention to brush your hair BEFORE you wash it.
what lipstick is it btw?
you are so pretty!! looks like a barbie
How do you maintain color between highlights ? Do you use toners etc? Thank you
i always wash my hair twice with shampoo because it's so much softer and doesn't need to be washed as quick as when i only wash them once with shampoo
you made my day
What about a dyed hair that needs regular toning and roots touch ups? It gets dry and damaged over time.
Use coconut oil as organic and natural as possible for your ends....its so good.
I'm growing out a buzz cut! Been skipping conditioner lately because the buildup is just insane. Any recommendations?
Your hair videos are wonderful I love them so much Thankyou xx
When I use shampoo, the blob is like 1 1/2 inches in diameter because I have really long and thick hair.
You only need to wash your scalp. Then when you rinse the shampoo will fall down to the rest of your hair ☺️
I have been waiting for this video ❤️
finding her channel is the best thing ever happened to me:))
i use veryyyyy little shampoo. maybe a dime size if that. i have very naturally dry hair so i just "wash" my hair with water and my hands, if its especially greasy ill add a smidge of shampoo. i basically just condition.
what’s your favorite dry shampoo?
I use one tsp and mix it in a bottle with water and distribute half of the mixture on my scalp and rinse my hair then I distribute the other half of the mixture on my scalp again and rinse my hair another time this hack is the best for using the most minimum amount of shampoo very efficiently
