RIP Jim Varney (June 15, 1949 - February 10, 2000), aged 50 And RIP Robin Williams (July 21, 1951 - August 11, 2014), aged 63 You will both be remembered as legends.
I don't think most people understand that Varney was just as quick-witted snd talented as Williams, but he just got pigeon-holed into his Ernest character. Both guys loved the art of comedic character and improv. They were also tremendous classic actors, one being a Shakespearean specialist snd the other having attended Juliard.

Every time I see Jim Varney it makes me think of my dad. Looked just like him and he did voices too. Ernest was a huge part of my childhood and he is greatly missed. My dad wasn't a good man but had moments of decency. Jim was always a reminder of those good moments and I hope nobody forgets about him.
I got a little choked up at the end. Because it was ending, and I doubt there's more of this. I really wish these two were still around. I grew up with them both. Jim I knew from his Ernest movies, which my family had all of. And Robin I knew from Mrs. Doubtfire, Hook, and Aladdin. In fact, he was the first voice I recognized in animation. As in, before Genie, I couldn't hear an animated character speak, and know right away who the actor was providing the voice. I wish we'd been able to see more of Jim's acting range on the big screen. I miss them, along with Chris Farley, and Norm Macdonald.
Jim Carrey, Robin Williams and Jim Varney - Those are my top 3 comedians of all time. They shaped how I viewed comedy and how it is best expressed to me, I used it to mask my struggles but it also gave me relief. I love these two amazing humans.

He was regarded by many that saw him as the finest Shakespearean actor they had ever seen, anywhere in the world, including those famous in Great Britain.

These two men were a huge part of a lot of people's childhood. It's sad that Jim never really got the recognition he deserved or the chance to be a more serious actor like he wanted. We got a taste of what he was capable of as a serious actor as Jed Clampet in The Beverly Hillbillies movie but that was sadly it. I wish that Jim and Robin could have done something together before Jim passed away. It would have been great.

However some like Betty White are alive and kicking at 98 years old. Jim, a lifelong smoker didn't reach old age because he had lung cancer that he tried so hard to fight. He would have died eventually but it would have been nice if he was still with us today and making us laugh well into his 90s as opposed to dying young at 50. Robin on the other hand was in good health and had a chance to keep making us laugh and hanged himself. I understand feeling like that but I with he had got help. Not hung himself at 64. I suffer from depression so it's terrible what it does to you and it's not a death sentence but it won in his cause. ln short, why couldn't they have survived the things they had and still be with us now?
If these two made a comedy movie together, i think it would have been pure comedy magic. Ernest was a great comedian and seasoned, he could keep up with robert williams and that says a lot about his patience and character
