Here is an easy method you can do yourself and maybe this will work for you as it did me. At one point my touch screen was not responsive then a day or two later my phone screen went totally black. I can hear it boot up and all the other button where still working but i just could not see anything on the screen. I thought i needed a screen replacement and tried one more last thing.
I took my battery out, held my power button down for 1 minute then just left my phone with the battery out for another 5 minutes or so. Then i came back and popped my battery in...and what do you know.. My phone is back to normal and for two days not its working perfectly.
Try and this and comment below if this works for you with your make and model of you phone. I hope this works for many of you.
And again, i used my Samsung Galaxy S5, but hopefully this works on all other Galaxy's and Android phones.

Dropped my phone earlier today which resulted in black screen... Came home to youtube how to fix it. Tried all of your lovely options and even watched the 7 solutions video as well... nothing worked. I have a Samsung tablet. Screen just went black. No reason. It's never been dropped. Could hear the volume control working. (bink bink bink). Didn't look like the back would come off as easily as the phone in the video. Then I came across your reply. And what the hell, I dropped it about two and a half inches onto my desk here. OK... I've figured out that my touchscreen still works but the screen is totally blank. I've gone through 4 of your videos and tried every "fix" that applies to the S4 (att) trying to get the screen to come back on with no luck. Just for grins, I called my S4 from another phone. When it began to ring, I swiped across the big black void approximately where I thought the graphic would usually be. LO and BEHOLD! It answered the incoming call. What could be the problem in your opinion?
possibly a loose ribbon cable, go to the store you got it from and ask about it

Pull the phone apart disconnect main screen plug then make sure there is no dust or anything on the connectors

My phone turns on but when i go to log in the screen doesnt work!!!!! So i cant type!!! i have tried using a OTG cable using a mouse and when i left click it doesnt work. i didn't even drop my phone, it was working one second, then i picked it up and the screen wouldn't turn on. the light buttons at the bottom and the led light worked 100% fine and i unlocked it and i could hear the sound with the volume key and everything. i tried this method about 4 times now and i even tried the smack method and nothing :( any suggestions? i don't have the money to repair it or buy a new one.
Sounds like your digitizer needs replacing. I like you didn't drop my phone which is doing this. This method here also didn't work. Looks like we both need digitizers as I've been told this is the case with mine.
Guys try to check first if the display is rightly connected, because when you pick it up or you fall it down, it can be that it disconnected from the mainboard, so try checking this and correctly rebuild it, when it still not working buy a new digitizer and plug it in, it should work :)

I was riding in a truck for work out of town and it was working one minute and then i picked it up again and the screen is black just like how you describe it. i dont have the money to fix this either! Was sitting in a chair and checked my phone to find it black-screened and unresponsive. I thought it was bricked, and all hope was lost. This worked on the first time, restoring everything to a "It never happened" situation. I am shocked and very appreciative that this worked.
I am an avid phone dropper (3 resulting in cracks) and I just dropped my phone last night out on the concrete. I picked it up and it had no physical damage but the touch screen was unresponsive and 5 minutes later it started to show a purple/black smudge-like mark in the back-lighting and rapidly got worse and has taken the entire screen. It shows nothing now and is completely black. I have tried many remedies like this and others but nothing works. I am 2 months away from phone upgrade and I don't want to spend money on a new one now. All I want it so make sure all of my files (contacts, accounts, pictures) will transfer to my next phone. I have thought about a screen replacement but I'm not sure that will help. If anyone has any suggestions or advice please let me know. Until I get a solution I will be using my grandfather's old phone, a Motorola flip phone that does not take my sim card.

My phone is a galaxy s4. I did your method of 1,2, 3 and even 10 and didnt work. My problem started with the screen green till it totally got black. I turned it on in the dowloading mode and the screen was ok but now even this screen of the downloading mode is not visible. However, the phone still working (cause I can fell the vibrations and hearing the notifications), any advice?

This works. I tried it after my phone wouldn't come on and had a black screen. I went a extra step and pulled out the sim card and the battery. Held down the power button for a minute. Then put the sim card back in, and then the battery. Put the back back on the phone, held down the power button and BAM! The phone came back on and it's working.
This works! Definitely try this, because it worked for me.
Note: You don't have to wait 5 minutes like this guy did in his video. Just do the steps I just laid out and this should get your phone back on and working.

My boyfriend's phone randomly stopped working for no apparent reason. He took the battery out several time but it would only displayed a black screen. Pressing the power button and leaving the battery out for five minutes did the trick. Once again the phone is fully operational. Thanks so much for this video!
If you've tried all of these "fix your S5" tutorials like I have and they didn't work, try this... Warm up your phone. Yes you read that right. Stick your phone in a warm place, wait a few seconds and then try to wake up your screen. Works for me every time.. I'm still not sure what the hell causes the screen to be unresponsive when my phone is cold, but whatever.. I only have 3 months left in my contract anyway. Good luck peeps!

happens cause the lcd screen stands for LIQUID crystal display. as you may know, if a liquid gets too cold it will freeze.

I dropped my s5 and when I picked it up it was cracked inside the screen if that makes sense, so my phone is on (turn on)like the lcd blinks and works and I still get Notifications but the screen won't turn in at all like it's broken in the inside its just pitch black, so please help me what could I do, where could I buy a screen sensor for a cheap price, it isn't just the screen cracked I think like the sensor or something is broken.

I had to send it back- But all you have to do is put the phone in its original box and then but that box with the phone in a box and ship it back ( email them if your having trouble)
Thanks so much! Worked for my S5. The screen went blank, but I could hear emails and texts coming in still. I tried popping out the battery several times and restarting with no success. I popped the battery out, held the power for a minute, then walked away for more than 5 minutes with the battery next to the phone. Popped it back in, and screen worked perfect. Thanks!!!

Hi sir, my S4 was dropped by height of just 2-3 feet then it won't turn on again. Unresponsive, no light, no sound, nothing at all. I try to connect it to my PC by USB port but nothing happened, didn't even recognized by PC. But when I connect it to my PC, for about 2 mins., my S4 turned hot fast. Haley Crow pull out your battery and put your phone and battery in a zip lock bag full of uncooked rice. Leave it there for a day or two. Then insert your battery and boot your phone. If still no go then pull out your battery and hold down your power button for one minute then reinsert your battery and boot up again. If still go put your phone and battery back in the ziplock bag full of uncooked rice again for another day. Then repeat the process.
Haley Crow never turn your phone on after dropping it into water because it'll fry all the electric parts. Take out the battery right away, and then just do the rice thing.
ILuvTrading my phone fell in water I took it out and put it in rice for 6 hours then I took it out it was working and then I put it back in the rice and it was working then I put it back into the rice and then when I pulled it out after 3 hours it wasn't working all there was was black but I got notifications and calls and I could here my phone help please

Finally got this fixed. it sounds like the reason for this is that since the latest update your phone cannot decide whether to use hardware or software back light settings. I managed to make the problem go away by doing this:
Go to settings >> system >> About device.
Find "Build number" and click 6 times fast on it.
You will then get the message saying: "You are now a developer"
Come back to Home Screen, and then go back to Settings >> system >> Now you will see the "Developer Options"
Now go to Developer options >> Drawing Section or Rendering Section >> Find "Turn off hardware overlays" or "disable hardware overlays" >> This will force the phone to always use GPU for screen adjustments. no more flickering.

asma skate your phone is having a water damage or the screen is damaged,
so put out the batterie and leave your phone to the sun for few hours ( 6 till 8 ),
turn on your phone again and if the problem persist then you should take it to a repair shop and they might change the screen with a new one :)
PS : If in your country there is no sun anymore then take it to a repair shop haha
then hit it again, maybe you'll get 3D functionality hahahaha

Thanks for this. I picked up my phone off the desk today and it went black. No life anywhere, screen, lights, volume - nothing. Naturally I put it on charge but it would not even respond to the cable connecting to show charging. Tried taking battery out and putting it back again etc.
Then I tried the one minute wait and it sorted it out. Phone came to life with 32% charge showing.

Okay, I tried the power button battery removal method....did not work. So, on to the smack method. Third time was a charm!!! Fixed the damn thing! Awesome! I dropped my Samsung Galaxy Centura on the curb by accident and now the screen is completely black. The phone itself, however, is operational, but it will no longer display anything on the screen. I tried this method for it and it doesn't seem to work. Any ideas?

Pressing on the screen all over is what worked for me. Looks like it was a loose connection between the screen signal sending components and the screen, so that is what worked, thank you. [Samsung Galaxy S5 - could feel the haptic vibrations and App related sounds, so I knew it was on, and charged and charging, but just wasn't able to see anything].
This was really helpful! I had to do it twice though-first time didn't work but the second time I took out the SIM card too and it worked like a charm!
i didn't understand the sequence of the different scenes in this video. Is the first scene what actually got your phone going again permanently? I seemed to me that one of the later scenes was a 'prequel' to the first scene and the last scene where you say "I think I'll take this in for repair" was a sequel? If that is correct then how did your phone FINALLY get fixed?

I paused an episode of Scandal to grab something from the kitchen, dropped it on the hardwood floor, then picked it up and started watching again. a minute or so after it started playing it died and was behaving as you describe (vibrating, volume buttons working, even responding to voice commands, but totally blank screen as though it was off.)
I tried turning it off and on again with no look, took the battery out for a few seconds and tried again, still no luck.
I then did exactly as you described and it's now working again. something about either the 5 minutes or holding down the power button seems to help. I guess there was some residual charge in the phone that needed to be used up or something? go figure. thanks! saved me a trip to the store!
I have an S5 and my screen went black too. I took the battery out for 5 minutes, put it back in, pressed the power button and the screen worked normally though the brightness level was set all the way down to the darkest point but that was easily fixed. Thanks for the video!

This worked for my Note 4! Specific problem I had was the screen would only work with the S pen. Finger touch was totally unresponsive. I did as instructed in the video and upon power up, everything worked as normal. Thanks!

Another sure fire way to fix this problem is, after making sure that your phone is powered off, (Just release the battery and then re-install.) (You dont have to put the back cover on yet.) Hold the Power button located on the right side and the top of the volume button at the same time. Your phone will perform a Soft Reset. My question though is why is this happening? I have never dropped my phone nor has it had any water damage. Is there and Application that is the culprit?

Thank you for posting this video. I was able to fix my phone using the steps mentioned - by holding down the button, taking out the battery and waiting five minutes.

Guys. Use a blowdryer on the phone for 35 seconds. This should make it turn on. I tried this myself n it works every time. If u feel pranked or anything trying this, then dont try it becus im just trying to help.

I have a galaxy s4 and recently I dropped it. It really fell only on the top left side then the screen hit a carpet but anyways, Everything seems to be working (like the buttons still light up and the notification thing still works and so on) except the screen. Like, if I press the on button, my phone will start to slowly turn green. It is really worrying me and I feel like there is no way for me to fix it. PLEASE HELP ME! Just so you know, I am a young, employed, teen who still lives with their VERY STRICT parents. If they find out about my phone they wont allow me to have one until I leave the house to go to college! No joke.

I expect your method to resolve permanently. But at the end, your phone still have issue? my phone has screen or startup issue. It will show blank sometimes. .but sometimes it shows like a TV screen which lost channel..you know those dot dot dot..screen..i have press on screen here and there and keep shaking a while..then it works..if I continuously working it is fine. But if I leave it idle for a while the issue come back.How can I fix it? Is it some connection cable loose or software corrupted?please help! mine is Andriod 4.4.1 Kit Kat.

This didn't work for me. I dropped my phone a couple months ago and this morning my galaxy S4 screen turned black with what looked like a green glitch on it. All the buttons work and I hear my phone vibrate when ever I get notifications. Should I go to a repair shop?
I tried all that, and nothing. I'm curious though @.57 seconds into your vid you said your phone rang - how did it ring when there was no battery in the phone?
Thanks for the video. I hope you can help me with my problem here. My Motorola android fell down and ever since its not turning on. There are no visible damages or broken glass/pieces. The phone seems to be charging (the green light lights up) but it would not turn on. Any suggestions for what could be a solution? Thank you

OMG, IT WORKED!!! I took battery out my S5 cause I couldn't hear it well. When I replaced it the phone would not turn back on. It was off all night long. I tried what I thought everything. I said ugh Imma have to take it to the store in am. But I decided to look on youtube and see. Found your video. im thinking this not going to work., But then it turn on right away lol THANK YOU SO MUCH

Tried it with a Sony Z3 Compact, didn't work. But I've done something to my motherboard. I was replacing the screen on it, and before I put it back together I thought I would test the screen first to make sure it works. Well I plugged it in to the port back to front, and now I've stuffed the display adapter on the motherboard. I've tried the screen with another Z3, and it works. And I've tried another screen with my Z3, and it doesn't work. So it must be something on the motherboard. Is there any solution?? *cry*
