  • Adam Savage, co-host of Mythbusters, speaks at the Reason Rally on March 24th, 2012. This was, in my opinion, the best speech of the day at the Rally...and he had some serious competition.

...And finally, I have concluded through careful empirical analysis and much thought that somebody is looking out for me, keeping track of what I think about things, forgiving me when I do less than I ought, giving me strength to shoot for more than I think I am capable of. I believe they know everything that I do and think, and they still love me. And I’ve concluded, after careful consideration, that this person keeping score is me.

Growing up Adam Savage has been a hero of mine since I was 13. I became an atheist at the age of 19. I am now 22 and I am a Christian who is helping lead an anti-anti-theist movement on the internet for I have seen the damage it is doing. To know Adam Savage was apart of this "Reason Rally" somewhat disappointed me, however his speech was spot on and I still hold my respect for Adam Savage after watching this video. and i don't know if you caught the subject of his speech but it was "reason and what it means to be reasonable". His speech is meant to define the mission statement and capture the motive of the Reason Rally. This speech is not specifically meant for the people at the rally but also to deliver the idea to others who don't know why this event was held. His speech was a simple and eloquent summary of what it means to be reasonable. nothing more, nothing less

In the end, all of us come at this with a personal bias and your bias is what you use to interpret facts and non-facts. In addition, when it comes to morality, it's amazing how few people actually live up to the ideals we have created. We lie, cheat, steal with impunity and put a lot of effort into figuring out ways of getting away with this stuff without being ostracized by the society at large. We are opportunistic animals who have developed just enough intellect to question the world at large and the curiosity to attempt to find the answers.
