Thanks for covering this topic on your channel. It is one of intense interest and frustration in the collector community. As far as TV show releases on blu ray goes, I would be in heaven if all seasons of Judging Amy or Moonlighting were ever released on Blu-ray. I doubt it ever will, but one can only wish!!
My two biggest frustrations on the TV front: 1) Fernwood 2 Night - the 1970s talk show spoof that was arguably one of the best comedies to ever air on TV, has never had any kind of physical media release. 2) The first two seasons of SCTV have never had a physical media release of any kind. There was an "early years" DVD with complete episodes but it started at season 3, bypassing the first two seasons that aired in Canada. For my money, some of the funniest moments were in the first season.
Man that stranger thing only having 2 seasons of physical pissed me off. But I heard there’s a chance there can be a boxset once the final season comes out.
I stopped collecting physical copies years ago, but very much appreciate those who do collect *anything*. Sony is discontinuing ALL production so it would be worth stocking up on burnable BluRay discs while you can.
STAKEOUT is but one of many Touchstone titles that have yet to get a bluray---THREE MEN AND A BABY, OUTRAGEOUS FORTUNE, TIN MEN, DOWN AND OUT IN BEVERLY HILLS, SPLASH.
I completely understand everything that you said. Very true! Have I ever looked at my movie collection and thought...what am I doing? Yes, indeed. I have way too many unopened unwatched films. It is very sad. I declared a freeze on my purchasing movies while I watch more of what I have. Then I inherited more than one thousand (1,000+) films on DVD and Blu-Ray. Needless to say, I am a bit overwhelmed at the moment. Having said all of that, there are two titles that deserve much better in my humble view. The first is Peter Greenaway's The Cook, The Thief, His Wife and Her Lover (1989). It really has to make it out the DVD dungeon. The second is even worse: The Wind (1928). It is the last great MGM Silent Film. It is incredible with Lillian Gish and the handsome Swedish actor Lars Hanson. Directed by Victor Sjöström. It remains a rare VHS tape in the USA. There may be an Italian DVD out there somewhere, but I have never seen it in all of years of searching. I finally bought a DVD apparently made from a VHS tape on eBay. It came in slim jewel case with a decent film design on the disc. Honestly, I am glad to have it. Sometimes this film shows up on TCM (where I first saw it). In 1993, the film was selected for preservation in the United States National Film Registry by the Library of Congress as being "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant." How is it not available from Criterion? I have grown a bit weary of many corporate choices on films. - Heather in the Sunshine State
Physical media getting more expensive and more special editions of movies like the You're next 4k steel book only 9 seasons of Archer? We need the rest of the seasons on DVD or bluray
I know music rights are a huge pain in the a** for releasing physical media, especially for T.V. shows. Most, if not all, studios are really cheap and don't want to pay anything above pennies on the dollar for music rights. It sucks, but it is what it is. 😞
Great video and topics, Chris! I've thought about getting The Stranger Things releases, but I'm assuming they're going to do a boxset once the series is complete.
Of the two I like who's the boss better but I ran into the same problem with the 80s TV show Mr Belvedere. Shout Factory put out seasons 1 through 4 and I've been waiting years for 5 and 6. There is inferior tape trading versions on UA-cam so it's better than nothing but it's really low quality
I hate when I can't finish a series. Like the show Titus. I have the season 1 & 2 DVD set and have never been able to find Season 3. For the longest time I thought they never put it out on DVD, but every now and then I see it for sale for like a crazy amount of money. It's super frustrating.
It really is a problem and scalpers never help. I just checked to see how crazy season 3 was Amazon shows used for 40 bucks and when you click it the price is 80! Extremely Infuriating
Everything that I have recently purchased physical copies of for films from Touchstone has come from Kino Lorber. I don't know if they have exclusive rights or what, but it seems like that's the company that's releasing those films.
I noticed a few of my Kino titles are Touchstone, but I think they are older releases before the Sony deal. I believe the deal was for all the stuff Disney, FOX, Touchstone etc... I think that is unfortunate and really different labels should have different studios. One studio can only do so much
Are those multiple copies of Leon behind you, or is it one special edition with the contents on display? I've never seen the one on the far left, with a closeup of Natalie Portman.
Yes Leon and The Fifth Element are my 2 favorite films of all time. Trying to collect every version I can find of both of those films. Each piece on the shelf is a different one. Here is the unboxing of the Manta Lab One Click Box you asked about. ua-cam.com/video/mVm1JAPDz90/v-deo.htmlsi=-G_zMR6Gf31T1WDq
I've wondered why Netflix and other streamers don't release more movies especially on physical media. I think eventually they will because it's easy income they'll eventually want.
My internet sucks, but I would collect anyway.Behind you I see Leon, what version is that it looks great! I remember standing in line at Best Buy when a new movie would come out on dvd. Fright Night is great in 3D.
I would too, it’s just I’m always hit with the “just stream it” it’s not for me. Leon is my absolute favorite film of all time. Trying to collect them all that whole shelf is all different versions of Leon. Everyone asks about this one ua-cam.com/video/mVm1JAPDz90/v-deo.htmlsi=14fg71NNUR7zz0dH
Still need to see Loverboy, I remember the movie poster. Don’t think it was on tv all the time like the other ones were. I finally broke down and bought Can’t Buy Me Love after we cut the cable.
Sony has become the worst for going only the steelbook route for 4K over the last 6 months. And they are limited availability. And since they took over Disney Distribution, Disney releases are now limited and super expensive in Canada. Sixth Sense is $60. What the hell is that!!
Honestly I thought it was both Disney and Sony trying to max profits, but the Willow release was expensive here, and in Europe they offered a steelbook and a standard version at the normal prices. Seems like North American Price gouging
24 the whole series needs a re-issue Most are available to import from japan but they not cheap, i would like each series to come out in slim amaray cases to save on room, we live in hope.
3 ninjas would make a great Vinegar Syndrome VSU deluxe box set. I would be happy with a standard slipcover. I feel if 3 Ninjas gets a release then we’d have to get Surf Ninjas too.
to a point if you just want the movie yes. Some times its about having my favorite films with new special features, or the films that only never released in America or its out of print.
@80sMadeConsumer they all have special features nowadays. That's not unique to boutique labels. I think it's a gimmick that many people have fallen for. But it's your money, spend it how you like.
Ha. Archer is like Mr Belvedere. Only ger to season 4 wirh dvd. 5 and 6 locked up in some legal bs. Newhart has a different label for first seaspn while Shout put out the rest.
Im really hoping for Big Top Pee Wee heard Terror Vision was going to release itvon 4K and Big Adventure for its 40th this year will get a rekease. Midnight Madness another favorite of mine could use a bluray. Three Men And A Baby a huge hit back in the day ohhh i so hope for that one and its sequel. I would love to get Cobra Kai but not going to get them on dvd they should be at least bluray in my opinion.
I think a bunch of people would be stoked for Big Top Pee Wee. Midnight Madness all I remember was the roller girls in the long socks from the beginning , needless to say to this day long socks hahaha. I would love for more streaming things to get a physical release. back in the day they used to put made for tv movies (usually not that great) on VHS.
@@crunchyfrog22 yes they are cheap and flimsy, so to pay higher prices for this stuff and the one thing protecting it is full of holes. I have had many come shipped with the cover art damaged. Paying 25-35 and the prices keep getting higher, quality and value isn’t what it used to be.
Ok, i think i get it now. So, you replace with case that have the whole side closed. The recycle logo exposes the art & the disc to damage. I never have experienced that, but it makes sense.
Stranger Things is the one I had the biggest problem with. Living in Canada, we don't have Target. I happen to be in LA when Season 1 came out and I quickly grabbed the 4K (which oddly doesn't have HDR support btw) and then later on Season 2 came out, this time with HDR, but I wasn't able to get it anywhere unless I paid through the nose on Ebay. I thought about it, but then when no Season 3 was coming, I decided it wasn't worth it. Makes no sense, but Netflix is one of the worst for not offering physical releases at a later point. They used to with House of Cards and Orange is the New Black, but that's it. Sometimes american shows only get foreign releases like Agents of Shield as well.
It’s frustrating indeed. No I don’t think it’d be worth it some of those prices are crazy. If I ever come across one I’d send it your way. It’s a long shot but you never know. I’m hoping one of the foreign labels releases all the seasons sometime soon.
@80sMadeConsumer Thanks. It would be great to have the series available. Even if they waited until the finale season this year. You mentioned your wifi connection is very poor where you live. You must be in a fairly remote location.
I grabbed both seasons when they were dirt cheap because of overproduction- but I noticed the price skyrocketing lately because their ceasing production amped up the scarcity. Whiiiiich was probably why they stopped releasing them, to move the overhead that existed. It's sh**y but I guess it worked. If they do a complete box I'll reinvest and not be as salty about it because I didn't spend too much on the ones I have, but I'd be so salty if I bought the 2 seasons at top dollar.

Shout Factory are annoying---they never finished Parker Lewis Can't Lose, Fantasy Island.....and they're reissuing all the exclusives I paid the premium price for. I got the Parker Lewis full series from Germany, and it had all the original music, which I like, but I know music doesn't matter to you.
Shout gets so much blanket love and I really think they set the the bare minimum standard. Or maybe a touch better than the studio releases. Parker Lewis was a Sumer time staple the reruns were always on. Haha in general I don’t care about music when it’s not attached to a movie or show, but haven’t seen it in so long probably wouldn’t notice what was missing.
Netflix Daredevil season 1 and 2 were released on Steelbook (which I have) and they stopped there so no season 3 and now we’re getting daredevil born again on Disney streaming soon 🙄 wish they’d released the 2 seasons of punisher in physical but hey ho.

I hate to say it, but streaming and halting DVD/bluray production is justifying sailing the high seas
I’m still a die hard home video guy, but to fill the gaps I get it!
@@80sMadeConsumer I do too. I collect VHS, Laserdisc and dvd
Studios only putting out some of the seasons of a show is the WORST! it feels like the opposite of Christmas haha
😂
Your Leon copy, asking price on eBay $400!
I paid a little more than that! Super rare only 600 copies and I did an unboxing last year.
@ Shout were one of the first boutiques but they've fallen so far in my opinion.
Netflix Daredevil season 1 and 2 were released on Steelbook (which I have) and they stopped there so no season 3 and now we’re getting daredevil born again on Disney streaming soon 🙄 wish they’d released the 2 seasons of punisher in physical but hey ho.
That’s a tough one I figured they would finish anything Marvel related. They are just leaving money on the table.
Do you collect because you have poor internet at home?
@@LouArtillery no I’ve been collecting since the 90s, it’s something I’ve always done. I think there might be some benefits of streaming, that I’m missing out on because of poor internet. I probably blind buy more because of it. I love the ritual of going to the shelf and finding something similar to going to the video rental store.
@ ok gotcha. I do both honestly. It’s much easier to stream. I stream everywhere in my house except for my theater. Down there I try to only do disc or vhs. I have an Apple TV down there too if I don’t have something
Your flashing beard is very distracting lol
haha
@80sMadeConsumer it must be the camera doing weird things with the video
